The only advertisement I saw was for MGS4, it's been a while.
thank goodness LBP is coming out, I haven't played ps3 since.:(

Seriously? So you haven't played Wipeout HD, Ratchet, or a week session of Warhawk?
That's hard to believe.
Mostly I've seen the PS3 name attached to certain games (all of them multiplatform by the way) and its the main console its shown for. Then at the end of the trailer you see the PS3 version of the game in front of the 360 and sometimes the Wii version. Take the Force Unleashed commercial, it starts off with the Sony name and then goes through the trailer of the game and finishes showing off the PS3 version of the game and the Playstation 3 name after that. Not much of a marketing scheme since it doesn't say much about any current price drops or anything. The 360 on the other does the same thing (see Pure commercials) but at the end it shows the Arcade SKU and says "Now starting at $199.99" which is extremely useful in getting their price drop out there.
Perhaps Sony leaves their price point out because it would be pretty bad to show that your console at $399 while Microsoft is showing their cheapest model at $199. I'd be leaving my price out of an ad if my rival was managing to go way lower that I was.
I wouldn't call it non-existent, there was a hotel with a guy masturbating to a soccer game and a baby in a white room and then a 3 minute shot of a plum floating about in a hat.
What do you call that, it's marketing.... well...something like marketing at least. There was a PS3 logo at the end of something that made me vaguely uncomfortable, that's something isin't it?
I haven't seen any recently either. Sony isn't MS they don't have and endless pool of money to tap into. They have to be smarter about it. They are probably just saving up until it gets closer to the holidays.EmperorSupreme
We are talking about brand marketing for games and hardware.....not redesigning the space shuttle...Sony is a multi-billion dollar company...and the lack of marketing dollars shows Sony continued arrogance that "they don't need to"..
Their credit rating is down--- its harder for them to make loans-- they need to be tight with the money.
Here is a chart for the stock value from the NASDAQ:

If you look back three years, investors havn't made a dime, considering inflation (as Sony likes to do to sell PS3s) investors have lost money. Betting on high priced HD stff was a poor bet in a recession.
They can't afford to market the normal way (plus, becuz the net, reg. mkting has become less effective).
They're marketing the hardcore games thru advertisements were it'll meet the hardcore "market" of viable buyers. So, we have corporate shills doing guerilla marketing here on GS and see youtube videos pop up.
So, yeah, thats the reason!

Building the Xbox brand only cost Microsoft $6+ billion, that's nothing....
The "arrogant" argument was clever 2 years ago and since then MS execs have been filling those shoes quite nicely... Got any new material?

That dismissive tone is comprabale to exactly what the PS camp has become notorious for. "The next generation doesn't begin till we say so!"
With MSFT taking over exclusives and sales-- I think Sony needs to step up in the advertising department -- especially with so many ad no nos over the last few years. Its funny how those "shoes" became vacant for the filling.

Yes, SONY is a billion dollar company, but its not that simple. You really have to understand how business works. Even though SCEA, and SCEE are apart of sony, they are their own entities so to speak. they have budgets just as any company and investors to answer to, they cant simply "get money from sony" as a whole. If it came to that point, they would simply halt production and sales of anything playstation before the risked total abandonment of investors and partners. It HAS to be this way so that there is no risk in one division bringing the entire company down. MS is in the same boat (although they have a bigger budget lol) but the wouldnt be able to advertise as much either if they werent making so much money this gen. Sony is really in a pickle. Spend too much money and worry investors, or conserve money and sacrifice software sales. its almost a lose-lose situation.

Comedy you compare MS just entering the market with the new Xbox brand to an established name like "Playstation"..What do you think Brand recognition just grows on trees..Question for yea? have yea hit the short straw yet....because soon or a latter you will find one..
In any event...
We are not talking about MS.....We are talking about Sony and the lack of dollars spent on brand marketing for games and hardware....Considering Sony is hemorrhaging market share like it got hit by a bus to both MS and NIN.....their continued arrogance is costing them more than any marketing budget..
I don't "need" to be clever or have new material.....Sony is throwing themselves under the bus this gen....

Marketing budgets are formulated well before a product launches and evaluated each quarter....Adjustments are made accordantly...Considering Sony's situation...I am surprised more funds have not been re-allocated to their marketing budget..

Lol? So how is google being sued by viacom for youtube? Its simple economics, not corporate mumbo jumbo.
You have spent 5 million dollars on a project. You just learned that you need to spend another million before you can accumulate a total of 3 million dollars in sales revenue. Do you spend the million or ditch the product.
IMO Expect to see something from sony soon.
