I was watvhing TV last night, when a PS3 ad was shown. Sad, it shows LBP and Motorstorm on buildings and people with a really lame song. Then they try to pass off the movie 'The Dark Knight' as an exclusive. Way to go and Sony wonders why they are getting creamed in the US in sales...
I like the ad myself , and the wishlist ads , and the network ad. They also have game specific ads - R2 , LBP , NBA , MPR , Mirror's Edge , Prince of Persia.
They should have some LBP commercials that show off the time-lapsed creating like the impressive internet trailers. Just show off how easy it is too use the pop-it menu , drop an item into the envirnmnet , and instantly start playing around with it ...... then show some cool things in a level of bigger scope. Anyone see anything like this yet ?
The biggest WTF moment happened when they showed Dark Knight footage and then said exclusive to the PS3. You mean I won't be able to play it on the stand alone Bluray player I just bought?

Rellay, that makes one of you. I guess the genius in Sony's marketing department failed to realize how hard it is to actually see the LBP footage, when you show using a brickwall as the background. It's almost as funny as the genius who greenlighted the movie 'Jaws 3D' when it was a fact that 3D movies are hard to see during underwater and night scenes...
There is a large slew of new adds some of them work and some of them don't, although most of them get the point across. Some people are grasping at straws when they start insulting the competitions marketing...you think the open skull adds that the 360 have are any better?

You guys are really overreacting at this commercial(or just nitpicking the hell outta it). I thought the commercial was cool maybe not as good as last years(Universe of Entertainment rox!) but its good. Certainly better than the ones they had in 2006(evil baby, exploding rubix cubes, and eggs? FTL?) that made no sense. The commercials they have this year actually made some sense and the point of commercials is to get customers or your target audience to remember the product. Since you guys are making a fuss about this commercial I guess it did it's job didn't it?

Doesnt it make sense to advertise PS3 games and Blu Ray as selling points for the system? And Sony didnt advertise the Dark Knight as a PS3 exclusive, it advertised it as Blu Ray, which the PS3 can do ya know. It's a sad day when fanboys blast a gaming company for advertising a system and it's games in a stylish way. I love my 360 and all, but it's alot better than the weird "Live your moment" 360 ads where it shows people with half heads making weird faces and jamming to Rock Band in slow motion... that seems like a commercial Sony would do... a weird one.

So I guess there's a new rule in System Wars that states that all posters can say only one console will dominate instead of saying all three. All consoles will do good in 2009(guess I broke the rule now huh:P?).
I've seen some bad 360 ads as well as some great and not so great PS3 ads. But who really cares? I thought this was System wars, not "Commercial wars":|
I can't believe Sony dominated last gen so badly, they're commercials have been bad forever it seems. They have always had some sort of lame empty city scene where a person or wo is staring at the sky then they put up the live in your world play in ours motto haha. Whats sad is thats how 90% of their ads are except that weird one with the black ooze that took the shape of various games with crappy rock music playing in the background.

Absolutely! It's not every day that a major corporation creates a series of ads that demonstrate that they think their fans have no brains...
M$ has access to the actual number of people paying for use of their own Internet connection. I'd say it goes well beyond thinking, and into the realm of knowing that their fans have no brains.

If you did not know what games were on the ps3 this year, after seeing that ad you'll still would not know. The commercial did not explain what you were seeing. You have to ask yourself who the audience is.

If you did not know what games were on the ps3 this year, after seeing that ad you'll still would not know. Commercial did not explain what you were seeing.The commercials did show some of the things the PS3 had to offer(especially the PSN one) they showed in a creative way. The main product they were marketing in that commercial was the PS3. The games are also recognized but on a slightly smaller scale but they were shown. And trust me, this commercial did explain a helluva lot more than the 2006 ones or the 360 "Jump In" ads. But really, has SW been so boring that now we are nitpicking commercials now? I bet next will be exclusive collectors edition items.

I actually like that one w/ Peyton Manning and the Chicken, but yeah, that wall one and the PSN one are terrible. They did the same thing earlier this year with that Saliva song.
Well whilst its annoying when the adverts are trashy, it's better them advertising than them not advertising at all. Think about it, Wii adverts are all over TV and guess which console is selling the best? It's just about making people know about what the console has and what makes it good - not about making entertaining adverts.

We're not bashing adverts, we're discussing what marketting strategies we think are effective and not effective and how much it affects sales.
As a system the PS3 owns the 360 and the Wii, but in advertising the PS3 sucks. One of sony's biggest problems is it's lack of and bad advertising. But I am happy that they are finally putting something out there
netflix is now 360 exclusive? i just saw a commercial on tv of some guy watching tv, and he only had half of a head, then it said netflix and went to the "xbox 360 is now only $199" thing.
Yeah, also the PSP commercial here in the UK is bad (it looks HUGE, they use kiddy hands to hold it, everyone knows a big portable system is a put off.)
what the average uneducated gamer does know.......MS= heavy spending on advertising+ price cut = less profits or a lost. Basic Microeconomics. Its obvious sony isn't spending much on advertising.
I saw 2 LBP ads while watching TV with my wife last and I was raving about it and all she thought was it looked dumb. Sony isn't showing what the game is about.
The "Reflections" campaign ads are good. They definitely have the right themes and get the point across: game library (exclusive/multi), social networking, blu-ray, and holiday season. Where'd all the sudden uprise of hate come from? And why would anyone think Dark Knight is exclusive? "This Is Living" and "Live Your Moment" are terrible ads lol.
While we are on the subject... Worst ad this gen goes to Lost Odyssey LMAO! Cool hippie song about doing PCP. Lame Ad.TREAL_Since
LMAO, and the terrible "jump rope" ad early this gen lol. This Is Living and the White Room ads were so dumb, epic, and irrelevant they made me laugh though.
