They still have tons of hackers? What's the point of PC gamers bragging about their updated stuff it they still get hackers?

Seriously consoles have "outdated" hardware but have less chances of hacking

Whaaat?? I'm just wondering.. I don't mean to be bashing on PC's as I just hate it when PC gamers brag...

And for people who think that using the 'PC elitist' card is insulting:

'Elitism is the belief or attitude that some individuals, who form an elite — a select group of people with intellect, wealth, specialized training or experience, or other distinctive attributes — are those whose views on a matter are to be taken the most seriously or carry the most weight or those who view their own views as so; whose views and/or actions are most likely to be constructive to society as a whole; or whose extraordinary skills, abilities or wisdom render them especially fit to govern.'

You are basically calling us your superiors, and praising us.

The presence of hackers has literally nothing at all to do with hardware. The platform is more open, so files are more easily accessed, and more easily hacked.

In any case, any multiplayer game worth playing uses dedicated servers and anti-cheat systems to weed out hackers.

This is how it goes.

Step 1. Hacker joins server

Step 2. Hacker glitchs or is using aimbot

Step 3. Everyone else: "That **** has aimbot! / is glitching" -Voteban-

Step 4. -Press F1 to ban hacker-

Step 5. -Hacker is banned-

Step 6. Carry on having fun

As Lucianu mentioned this largely isn't a problem on games with dedicated servers because between the admins and the anti-cheat layer most of the problems are taken care of; if a game uses peer-to-peer multiplayer you only have the automated software layer to protect you and if it doesn't see an exploit your only option is to report it to the developer (or whoever) which takes a lot longer.

Enduringly popular multiplayer PC games (Counter-Strike, Battlefield 2, etc.) always have dedicated servers because it provides an experience with fewer cheaters, better stability and increased options like custom maps and new game modes. Peer-to-peer games like Black Ops sell OK on the PC but they never see the long-term popularity of games with dedicated servers for these and other reasons.

"Belief" is a keyword. According to the definition you provided, a PC elitist is a part of a select group of people who own superior hardware than others, and because of that believe that their views and opinions about gaming carry the most weight. Not a compliment at all...

I was wrong, it's MW2. It had tons of hackers for a good while after release due to all the IW hate from the game not having dedicated servers and being $60 instead of $50. It may still have them...not 100% sure.

Hacking in my experience effects the console multiplayer far more than the PC.. The Pc community has had to deal with hacking for over a decade.. And there have been quite a few effective means that have been implemented in curving it completely most of the time.

You can still have matchmaking with dedicated servers, MW2 just didn't...which is a large reason why it was so easily hacked.

You're missing mods, creation tools, independent and experimental games. You're also missing servers, customization, and admins or moderators; these are things lacking in the console spectrum. If you're caught hacking or being a genuinely horrible person, mods or admins can step in - Live for instance instead has a large bureaucratic process of reports filed and users to watch, in which a smart hacker can get by, and the actual act of catching somone is more difficult. On the PC, server ban, get rid of the person. The hackers themselves can play on hacker friendly servers, that are unsecure, without the threat of being banned. It's a better system than PSN and Live, that's for certain.

All matchmaking does it cut out the server browser, and acts as a filter. Black Ops for instance still has dedicated servers, and matchmaking finds one to suit your needs. It's an elaborate server search alternative. Games without dedicated servers are more or less the same, only it searches directly from a pool of players, and the player with the best connection is determined to be the games 'host'.

LOL typical console argument "ok PC is better, but the haxors!".

I personally don't care WHICH platform is better, I just want the best, which happens to be PC.

Hackers are a non-issue, 10 years of PC gaming and I've seen maybe a couple aimbots and porting hacks; and none in recent memory.

Fact is: your argument is weak, and you will be on PC within 2 years I'm guessing.

if you've ever been involved in administrating on a server handling banning/unbanning etc.You will know how quick you can lock onto a hacker.SAMP brings back good memories of admining :) twas sometimes more fun banning the hackers who tried to continually troll a server cause he felt so boss cause he had dynamic IP.

Hacking on a monitored dedicated server doesn't happen often.

This is part of the reason why PC gamers want dedicated servers. We can completely control who plays on the server. If somebody is hacking or being extremely rude, we can just ban them and they can't come back. Problem solved.

On the consoles you have no choice but to put up with everything and hope that the moderators do something to their profiles.

i honestly haven't seen a hacker on a cheat protected server in almost a year. last time i saw a hacker was on mw2, go figure. i dont understand why people say pc multiplayer games are filled with hackers, because they are as rare as anything. i've heard more people with autotuned voices than i've seen with hacks. my god, get your facts straight. having thousands of hours on online shooters, i think i can safely post this and not have to eat my words.

I have not come across a hacker in yeeeeeaaaars. There's a lot of protection against them. Many games are VAC secured, or there's other tools like punkbuster, and given that most servers you play on are admin-run it is so easy to kick people from them. You see a hacker, and he'll be gone in two minutes.

I have come across hackers on the consoles, and that sucks because you either have to quit the game, or let the game run it's course...

I played Day of Defeat Source for almost a year straight... and had encountered no more than 3 hackers in that time. And when I did, the server admin banned them.

Grasping at sludge at the bottom of the barrel much? All those advantages that PC offers and "the possibility of hacking" is the best you can do?
