People who say PC gaming is relatively expensive are naive to the fact that gaming in general, regardless of your platform, is going to be relatively expensive. The beauty behind PC gaming is the value--and the options that you are given; they far supercede anything you can do on consoles.

PC gaming is as expensive or as cheap as you want it to be.

A $600 to $800 rig can run almost everything today on high or max.

Yep. Console games cost more on average and don't drop in price half as fast as PC titles do. PC hardware can cost a bit more, but is offset by great deals on games and much higher replayability. Both are pricy in their own regards, and the "PC gaming costs too much" argument is laughable at best

A $500 PC can run BF3. There's a huge difference between running a game and maxing a game.

PC gaming doesn't cost too much. A good PC is well worth it's price.

PC gaming is certainly more expensive than console gaming, or at least used to be. Used games and game lending, in addition to renting agencies, aren't really that developed or viable on PC. And when you're counting money such that every little dollar counts, you learn right away how much you can save in a year. PC gets great deals though for owning games. Got New Vegas for 7.50 new, waiting to see if I can get all the DLC for $10 at one point (Although I already own all released DLC on the 360 :P)

Did you take into consideration that a cheap netbook can do all the extra things a gaming PC can do and be easily carried around from place to place and is more conveniant for. My next laptop is actually going to be 1500 and its not a gaming laptop, its a mobile work machine, i don't even think its capable of gaming, i'm looking at a decked out thinkpad t520

This, basically THIS. PC's are pretty damn expensive, and 85% of what they can do do doesn't even require 'gaming hardware'.

I'd be infinitely happier if I'd have a wider range of options for purchasing consoles where I live. Just sayin'. It seems as if consoles are getting better and better with each genereration.

Only if you actually need or want to do those things. I really don't need a machine to do video rips, photo editing, P2P, etc., so what value does it add for me? My tablet can handle web browsing, my phone can do facebook and Google+, and my development machine belongs to my employer. What else do I need?

Why is cost even an argument when it comes to a hobby you enjoy? Its like the Civic owner making fun of the custom built hot-rod. One is factory built, the other built within the owners means.

Joke: No matter what that 1st party parts manufacture says, that massive grocery cart wing on the back of that Civic isn't making it go faster.

Say what you want but no way a Gaming PC is going to be cheaper than a $200 console. The fact you have to come up with all these stipulations to make it seem PC gaming is cheaper should tell you that.

Yes, a good PC can do a lot... of stuff a bad PC can do basically as well. That's kinda the problem here. Everyone on this forum is probably running some kind of PC already, but a good amount of them are far from gaming ready, yet they will do most every function we care about other than gaming. Now, if you have someone who has no PC at all, then this could be a decent argument, problem is I don't know really anyone that is in that situation. Every person I know is sporting at least some old junker of a PC that is perfectly fine to do web browsing, email, some document writing, etc, etc. So, unless you're doing computation intensive scientific work, video rendering, or the like, which very few do, then the gaming PC really doesn't give much advantage other than gaming itself.

Is there really an $800 PC that can run BF3? mrmusicman247
My PC pretty much blew up last month and i had to replace everything bar the case and hard drive, im not sure of the exact exchange rate but i brought an i5-2500K, 8GB of ram, Asus P8P67 Mobo, 850W silent pro PSU, Antec Kuhler H2O 620 CPU cooler and a GTX560Ti the month before my PC died.

That all cost me just over £600 which i think is somewhere around $850-950. i went OTT on my parts as i love my PC gaming but looking at what my parts cost me you could put together a PC for well under $800 that would be sufficient for BF3.

Its fair to say PC gaming is more expensive when it comes to the type of games you play. PC gaming is not just crysis, metro and BF3 it can be simple POPCAP games etc. Of course console gaming I would argue is cheaper to start but over the long haul possibly more expensive because of the higher priced games. Howeverr this can be cut down if you wait for 2nd hand games which helps to even the fight with steam deals etc :).

Its a very difficult argument to point out who wins because anyone can buy a 2nd hand console for £90ish from CEX, or game etc (in the uk). So it all rests on the above statement plus if you want things new etc.

It's not that its expensive, well it is but it's not the main reason. It's the convenience that you don't need to be a computer junkie to get a good deal. I spend weeks looking for one that meets my specifications. I look around websites and stores, read and watch reviews, ask in the forums etc. and when I finally get the computer, it doesn't ***** run the game properly if at all. I don't want to build my rig or go to those build your own websites since I have no idea what components I need or what to do with it. Guess what the console buyer does? He just goes to the store and buys a console. Took him 30 minutes to plug in and play.

Never understood why people on here think or say that PC gaming is more expensive than console gaming. Yes it costs a bit more (especially in the short run), but if you for instance factor in the fact that the games for it are cheaper, and if you say compare it to an Xbox360 where online is free vs $50 a year, one will realize that it actually is not that expensive. In fact, I just saw an excellent gaming laptop (laptops are more expensive than desktops) and it was a mere $1100 for a nice solid 2nd gen Core I-5@2.3GHz, 500GB HDD (standard affair), 8GB DDR3 Ram and a GTX560m. Making a $1000 bucks does not take too much time if playing video games is one of your hobbies, well paying that money should be well worth it. Gaming is in fact one of the cheaper past times out there so comlaining about $1000 PC's is well, dumb imo

Based on what Dice has said, you can't even build a rig that can max the game yet.

Nope not true, you will only need around 500-600 euros, if not less to max out crysis. A card like the GTX260 can max out Crysis 2 (at least before the latest patch, not sure about after) and play it easily. Crysis 2 is not that demanding of a game at all. The original Crysis was yeah, but not the sequel...

Console fans will come with this stereotypes to defend ..well consoles... Typos like 1) you cant play PC games on your HDTV ( really? ) 2) K+M is not good ( like you cant plug and play X360 pad or something or K+M isnt better for FPS/RT strategy etc ) 3) I dont want to play on my chair , want to relax on my couch ( like you cant plug and play on HDTV and play on your couch ) 4) PC needs constantly upgrades to keep up with games ( MY PC costed 700 euros when PS3 had 599 4 years ago and i stil playing ALL games except VERY FEW exceptions ( crysis for example ) at 1920x1200 ( above 1080p ) at max to medium settings depends the game ) 5) PC needs install!!!!!!!! ( and Consoles got x10 loading screens in meantime , in long run maybe youll wait more than 5 minutes ( install time ) in total ) 6) PC aint got good exclusives ( no comment here PLUS most console ports to PC are way better quality technically or because of hardware ) Consolites also BYPASS the facts : 1) With PC can do 213123123 more other things than consoles. Is not for no reason that consoles each gen getting more multimedia functions!! Like PCs!! 2) With PC you can play 243423 free games or even better 234234 MOD games . But that doesnt count for them i guess 3) PC got the best and more reliable internet connections out of any console yet. 4) PC communities are way better than any console ones. Tell me a console game , like 6-10 years old that millions gamers login daily and playing even this day? NONE... PC got too many to count.... 5) Biggest leagues and proffessional tours are on PC ( with very few exceptions like EVO2011 etc ) for a reason , do you think? Most recent?! Google. So Sami117 , these are the facts and this is System wars. You cant make them ( consolelites ) understand :) simply becuase they dont want to but deep inside they know the truth.

[QUOTE="ArchoNils2"]

[QUOTE="AtariKidX"]But to play Crysis 2 you need a 1000euro computer.......i think.AtariKidX

To play it? No. To play it on high settings? No. To max it with mods: Yes. But if you really search for graphics that powerful you should be fine to pay more, especially if this leads you to a gen or even more ahead xD

To play Crysis 2 on on high settings i will need at least 800euro PC.....i don't care for mods.

On the other hand though , to play Crysis 2 on 720p and PS3/X360 setting i dont even need a 250$$ PC. So?

You think a modded crysis 2 is a gen ahead? Rly :lol: i remeber people saying the exact same thing about Chaod Theory lol look what happened... New engines will apear and curbstomp Cryengine when next gen is launched.

It sure as hell looks better than anything Nintendo showed on their Wii U yet and that's all we've seen about next gen :/

If it was so much better then you wouldn't need all these threads to try and convince people.

People who say PC gaming is relatively expensive are naive to the fact that gaming in general, regardless of your platform, is going to be relatively expensive. The beauty behind PC gaming is the value--and the options that you are given; they far supercede anything you can do on consoles.

Wow, I agree with you something. :| Damn you Stephan!!! :P
