It does cost much. The "other than gaming" stuff PCs do, doesn't require high end GPU + CPU

[QUOTE="lowe0"][QUOTE="bri360"]Only if you actually need or want to do those things. I really don't need a machine to do video rips, photo editing, P2P, etc., so what value does it add for me? My tablet can handle web browsing, my phone can do facebook and Google+, and my development machine belongs to my employer. What else do I need? I guess nothing :? ? You don't equal the world bro. Neither does the poster I was replying to. That's my point - that the value proposition isn't universal.People often forget that pc's are also used for farrr more than just gaming. So its much more worth its value than a console would ever be.

btw one thingI dont like pc gaming is its poor online quality and much smaller community size. Cuz everyone uses different hardware, and many ppl have very slow computer but they still want to play games that they barely meet minimun requirement. As result online match has crappy quality on many pc games. They shouldnt allow ppl to connect games online if their pc lags so bad. Especially on non Blizzard/Valve's games. look at steam stats, TF2, which is the most played games, only has around 60,000 ppl playing.
consoles do more then just play games as well. I also have a smart phone and a pc that do everything i need. If i buy a gaming pc i am buying it to game on not to use for other things. knowing how windows slows down so much the less you use it on other things the better.

Most servers do have an auto kick if someones ping is too high. And dedicated servers on most PC games are much better than the P2P host advantage seen on consoles

550$ pc is garbage last cheap rig i got was 600$ and i ended up with a dead psu and a dead mother board
Ok, on average most PCs cost from $300-$800 for just buying an average run of the mill computer right? A new console cost $199 for the cheapest Xbox 360. New console games cost $60. So lets say I'm going to buy a decent pc for web, music, movies, internet, and school work. Lets face it, we like options, we like a big hard drive so we can save our music and photos and videos. We like a decent processor so it will all run well without chugging whenever we have multiple tabs open online, so we're not likely to go for the bottom of the rung options. That's about $700 give or take, including the pc, a monitor, decent processor whatever. Add the $200 for the xbox, oh wait that model doesn't have a hard drive, so $300 it is. At this point we're at $1000 already, this is without the $50 for a second controller so friends or family can play with me. This is where it gets interesting. Because for the same money you can have a far more developed gaming experience. For this price you can have higher resolution, better textures, more control options, mods, larger communities, different gaming choices, mmos, steam support, PC specific options like tesselation and physics. Now PC gaming CAN BE more expensive, but that generally depends on how much you want to pay, and guess what, it can be cheaper too depending if you're poor or not.

Agreed. My current PC was 500 ish not counting Monitor. And it is only an X3 440 and a 4850 (which is now 2 generations old) and it still runs most things perfectly fine. I am waiting for BF3 to come out to upgrade.

I agree. And something else. When a console game costs 59$$ to 69$$ and the same game on PC costs 29 to 39 thats 20 to 40 $$ less per game.
In a consoles lifetime i bet , a gamer will buy 10 ( many will buy way more than that but lets keep it low ). Thats 200$$ to 400$$ more for 10 console games VS PC games
!!! Add 300$$ to that price for a console and here is your imba PC with 10 games , same price as a console + 10 games more or less.

More like a $40 Windows 7 license. A lot of things are cheaper if you are a college student =p... I got Ultimate for $80 at my school.Console fans will come with this stereotypes to defend ..well consoles... Typos like 1) you cant play PC games on your HDTV ( really? ) 2) K+M is not good ( like you cant plug and play X360 pad or something or K+M isnt better for FPS/RT strategy etc ) 3) I dont want to play on my chair , want to relax on my couch ( like you cant plug and play on HDTV and play on your couch ) 4) PC needs constantly upgrades to keep up with games ( MY PC costed 700 euros when PS3 had 599 4 years ago and i stil playing ALL games except VERY FEW exceptions ( crysis for example ) at 1920x1200 ( above 1080p ) at max to medium settings depends the game ) 5) PC needs install!!!!!!!! ( and Consoles got x10 loading screens in meantime , in long run maybe youll wait more than 5 minutes ( install time ) in total ) 6) PC aint got good exclusives ( no comment here PLUS most console ports to PC are way better quality technically or because of hardware ) Consolites also BYPASS the facts : 1) With PC can do 213123123 more other things than consoles. Is not for no reason that consoles each gen getting more multimedia functions!! Like PCs!! 2) With PC you can play 243423 free games or even better 234234 MOD games . But that doesnt count for them i guess 3) PC got the best and more reliable internet connections out of any console yet. 4) PC communities are way better than any console ones. Tell me a console game , like 6-10 years old that millions gamers login daily and playing even this day? NONE... PC got too many to count.... 5) Biggest leagues and proffessional tours are on PC ( with very few exceptions like EVO2011 etc ) for a reason , do you think? Most recent?! Google. So Sami117 , these are the facts and this is System wars. You cant make them ( consolelites ) understand :) simply becuase they dont want to but deep inside they know the truth.AzatiS

ACtually it's pretty cheap, perhaps not as cheap as reading but it still works out reasonably well, especially if you're one of those people who buys CS and plays it for an entire decade. The expensive hobbies are always the ones that involve people, compared to eating out or going clubbing gaming tends to work out pretty cheap per minute.People who say PC gaming is relatively expensive are naive to the fact that gaming in general, regardless of your platform, is going to be relatively expensive. The beauty behind PC gaming is the value--and the options that you are given; they far supercede anything you can do on consoles.
Stevo_the_gamer
Its not that expensive but the initial cost is pretty big $500-700 depending on how much your looking to upgrade. This late in the gen you can make a pretty inexpensive PC relatively cheap that will run most games fine.

uh What?
One thing I learned is that you can't go to retail stores to expect the best in PCs today, I'm pretty sure a personally built system at $600 could beat anything in the $1000 range Dell's got.

I'll take simplicity and a gamepad over whatever positives a PC offers- the only thing I use my 10 year old laptop for is to store pictures and music anyway- web browsing is accomplished sufficiently well on my telephone.Okay, I've only read halfway through page 1, so I'll ask before launching into a tirade: Has anyone raised the objection of what a pain it can be installing and configuring a pc game over the drop & go simplicity of a new console game?El_Zo1212o

I go to the options and proceed to spend 2 hours messing with the different settings to see what I can get away with leaving as high as I can so the game looks good and runs reasonably well. And if that fails, then I have to spend more money on new components because my hardware is insufficient. Then it becomes a question of whether to bite the bullet and count the money spent on the game as wasted or bite the bullet and purchase the necessary hardware. Or bite the bullet and play the game as it runs badly on inferior hardware. Forget that- I drop a brand new game in my 360 and it looks and runs exactly as it should. Is there really any question as to why some people prefer console gaming? Either too much bullet biting or you spend a small fortune on new hardware that will be sufficient until The Next Big Thing hits, then you bite the bullet and shell out to upgrade.

A bit confused on this "small fortune" claim as there is a huge speculation to consider.

1. I didnt call you names. Lazy: referring to Laziness--a lack of desire to expend effort. 2. It is not difficult to get a balance between playability and prettiness, especially since many PC games look very good (possibly better than console games) on medium. 3. If you cant understand the specs, then you probably arent a PC gamer. If you were a PC gamer then you would probably understand what it meant. If your PC does not meet minimum requirements then you most likely are ready to upgrade, something that all PC's must do every few years-- maybe every year maybe every five years depending on specs and personal preference.
If you respond, please use reasonable examples rather than hyperbole.

So Bad Point. AND even then, Ps3 has horrible load times (360 as well but to a lesser extent)....A 30 Second Loading Screen on PS3 is like 4 Seconds on PC.
I can start a game up and be playing in less then 30 seconds on my PC. On the consoles, I have to wait for those stupid splash screens to be over with. Takes about 3 mins before I can be playing...

And at the end of all this I still prefer to play video games on a console (and I have since the Atari 2600). I also like playing on a PC from time to time to (especially when it comes to RTS and strategy games-something a console doesn't do quite as well as the PC, but it's getting there). I don't feel the need to defend console gaming OR PC gaming. At the end of the day everyone has a preference and if I didn't know any better I'd say this console versus PC debate is just a bad as fanboy philosophy in my opinion (I owned a Sega Genesis and a Super Nintendo and enjoyed the selection of games on both systems while companies fought it out and fans spent too much time bashing either Nintendo or Sega). So, when it comes to the whole console versus PC thing: why not BOTH?! while this particular argument continues-I'll be playing great games wherever they are found whether it's the console or the PC. The End.
question for pc gamers. How often do you need to update your computer and how much does that cost.Lets say 3 years of upgrades.
Your logic that a great PC is better than a solid PC with a console sounds pretty anti-gamer imo.

I don't see why.
The PC does get more games than the consoles do, and if Gamespot is anything to go by it also gets more high-rated games than the consoles do on a more frequent basis.
It'd be more "anti-gamer" to not get a gaming pc, and instead get a standard PC and a console.
