@KBFloYd: Yeah, nevermind that they reached out to people and independently corroborated the same conclusion across multiple resources including one that laughed because PS5 would be flying out of factories by now if the original rumor was true... You got us all there, dude. Sony did not comment on an issue that affects the sales of their current hardware. Way to go Inspector Gadget.

sounds like you XD yourself in your own OP and now relying on opinions of others to validate your thread

lmao

It sounds like your a salty lemming who can only pin their hopes and dreams of a Sony failure on a premature launch that absolutely will not come to pass.

I honestly believe the way how Consoles are going right now, they are going make the PS4 so that you can adjust your game setting to suit your Resolution much like what has been happening on PC.

Umm yeah not that's not correct. The name cows came from Sony fans being milked for accessories(HDD, network...ect) amongst other things they were told to buy.

Which is funny because Network adapter was $40 and allowed for online play free, and on 2004 the slim model had it built in,the ps2 was sold like until 2012,the fun part is that lemmings pay for online play YEARLY on those days, and even that the xbox had a dvd drive, you had to shed $30 more for a remote controller to be allow to play the movies,as if your controller could not do that.

So you see you were even more milk than cows, and don't get me started on the xbox 360,the damn thing didn't charge you to insert the games by miracle of god.

Even free apps like netflix were hid behind a paywall, the name cows suit lemmings more than actual cows.

Ok, not sure what that has to do with the definition of cow and where it came from on SWs.

You got what you paid for tormented. Xbox provided the best all around online experience for consoles. PS online was pure shit.

And yet cows are PS fanboys and Xbox are lems. Doesn't quiet fit your narrative now does it.

I don't know about you tormented but Netflix charges me to use the service. Free? In what country

@tormentos: the xbox had every thing you needed to play games included. To get the same game functionality out of the ps2 required a multitap a hdd, and a network adapter. You had to make a day one purchase of a overpriced proprietary memory card to simply be able to save a game at all! And even after making those purchases you were still left with a system that was much less powerful.

Yeah that was the reason why i was playing 20 vs 20 on 2006 lag free on dedicated servers and lemmings were playing an bullet lag infested 4 vs 4 host advantage 2p2 galore on 2006 because you get what you pay for..

How about Resistance 2 30 vs 30, 8 players coop no xbox 360 has that,in fact the xbox one got an 8 player coop on 2014,sony was doing it last gen.

No it wasn't and i had both back then, even reviews freking talk about Gears of lag, contrary to resistance 20 vs 20 lag free smooth as butter gameplay, games like warhawk 16 vs 16 on huge maps, with flying ships, tanks, jeeps, jetpacks, again super smooth.

Yet you were more milk that we were so who fits better for the moniker.?

Yeah play the blind chicken i am not talking about what netflix charged you,i am talking about the fact that to use the app on xbox 360 you need it xbox live GOLD on PS3 you didn't,same with hulu and many crap that MS hid under live to make the service seen as a good value when in reality they were charging you for the same thing the other company was giving you free.

You had to make a day one purchase of a overpriced proprietary memory card to simply be able to save a game at all! And even after making those purchases you were still left with a system that was much less powerful.

And to play online on xbox you need it $50 a year to play movies $30 more, and the HDD sony sold was 40GB 5 times bigger than the xbox hdd,and came with 1 game FF11.

That is funny the xbox also sold memory cards, there was an advantage to those that an hdd didn't gave you, mobility which is why MS also sold one,so you payed for a memory card if you wanted to take your saves to a friend house.

Look at it this way the network adapter was $40 and gave you free online until the console was discontinue the HDD $100 with 1 game a multitap was $34 and memory card like $30..

So we have $204 dollars in peripherals.

Xbox live in 5 years = $250

DVD remote $30

xbox memory card $30

Again who was milk more $310 dollars..

But since the topic is milking, let me picture you this.

XBL started on 2002,but halo 2 gamers were playing until 2010 when the servers to halo 2 where shutdown, that is almost 8 years of xbox live which come to $400 dollars, meanwhile that $40 network adapter was release on 2002 and socom servers lasted until 2012 for no extra money almost 10 years.

Well the xbox was release 20 months after the PS2 it had to be more powerful, but a console is about games and the PS2 pissed all over the xbox game wise it wasn't even close,oh and that is without accounting backward compatibility which you lemmings hype now as the best thing ever..

So, there you have it. Looks like Sony was not as shook by the Scorpibone and you should feel bad for thinking they were. Don't run out there and trade your current PS4 just yet.

PC's RX-580 "NAVI" replacement is planned to be released sometime next year (2019) and game consoles usually follows several months after PC's move to new process node.

Both MS's and Sony's next gen plans are based on AMD's road map i.e. AMD is the bottleneck.

Sony is very consistent on ~200 mm2 chip size GPU across multiple game console generations. Expect PS5 to be 2X scale RX-580.

I think you mean strictly in terms of physical die size, but it might confuse people to compare it to the 580 considering that architecture is/will be no longer in use. I'd ask, how does it compare to the 64, perhaps?

So Navi.... Er looks like its not going to have high end GPU die's, so the PS5 will only be marginally better than the Xbox one X.

  • Xbox one X = RX 590 that perfroms between the RX 580 and GTX 1070.
  • Navi = GTX 1080 level of performance that is meant to replace the Polaris cards.

Told you guys this coming generation is going to be piss poor, its too soon and the mid generation console power bump just ruined performance upgrades.

Honestly, I'm wondering if next gen will surpise us with a completely innovative system. Perhaps Sony is working on a console geared heavily towards VR or perhaps the console will be completely portable? I don't know, but we might see something new, hopefully.

Nothing was lag free on PSN el tormented. I know cause I had a PS3 and I played games on PSN AND we all know you didn't so you can stop your lying. Again you didn't have a 360 nor did you play any games on LIVE. You're absolutely clueless and without actual experience your OPINION ==shit

What about that mediocre game Resistance? You think because it had more players at once it equals better online? LOLOLOLOL I guess MAG was the best online game last gen then huh? If only you had experience playing any of these games. You're a super Sony fanboy that doesn't actually ever own the actual console OR play the games on it.

And yet Sony fanboys are called cows and it wasn't because they were less milked el tormented. Nice try thumbs but as usual you fail

Three things worth mentioning.

1. The 1080 is a 9+ TFlop card, so that would put it at 1.5x the performance of the Scorpio.

2. Navi will still utilize HBM2/GDDR5 whereas AMD is already known to be working on GDDR6 memory controllers in late 2017 (in the lab)

3. You shouldn't let a liquid-cooled console warp your sense of technology paradigms. Scorpio could have been a $400 console, but not having an RROD fiasco was also important.

--------------

Scorpio is late to the party, and architected to spoil the next one. The list of games on it using checkerboarding and other non-native 4k resolutions is rather long. The PS5 would target missing a lot of those shortfalls. The technology to do that is around the corner. Not all TFlops are built the same, though. Rendering pipelines will become more general purpose and complex than what we are seeing now. PS5 should be targeting that. There's no point in being upset with something that exists only on paper for the time being.

It's launching 2020 or 2021 like I've been saying all along. Sony isn't keen on stopping the PS4 domination anytime soon. They are gonna milk the PS4's success for as long as possible.

/close thread. WTF would Sony mess with the PS4 when it is in kick ass mode and the king of consoles. If the PS4 is still selling as well in 2019 and 2020 I would not be surprised for a push to 2021. You do not mess with a good thing when you don't have to.

This all depends on what the competition is doing also.

  1. The Navi card being compared to 1080 performance is for DESKTOP components... While it may be 9TFLOPS a console version with a 200w power draw cap you would be lucky to get 7.5TFLOPS with the heavy core clock cuts that would need to be made
  2. I am more than aware of that
  3. You shouldn't let desktop components warp your the sense of performance a mobile variant will have, even if Navi will ONLY perform as good as a 1080 a console variant will NOT being running it with desktop levels of TDP/core clocks and heat dissipation thus limiting its actual TFLOP count

No one is upset. I was just stating the obvious fact that mid generation upgrades is a bad move since the whole console generation is determined by the 5+ year performance gap and by introducing mid generation upgrades the visual justification of getting a new console would be hard to accept for most people.

Simply posting information, nothing more and nothing less.

This all depends on what the competition is doing also.

But not really. These consoles don't get planned like your next mid-range PC build. They are planned far in advance to attain some kind of design goal. The PS4 fulfilled the design goals of making an easier to use and develop for consistent 1080p console with an interface designed around an integrated online service platform. Putting all of those pieces into place takes years. A well-designed console is always better than the sum of its parts because of good planning.

Sony doesn't sit there and wring their hands over what arbitrary numbers the competition is kicking out. Doubly so when Microsoft, in this case, told us years ago what they would be doing with the Scorpio. I'm willing to bet the hardware design process for PS5 wasn't even phased by that because at the end of the day, we don't know what the design goals of the PS5 even are. Do we think Sony is more interested in VR performance or 4k performance or having a handheld hybrid like the Switch? We can't answer that, so how can we say that the PS5 will launch sooner or later than 2020? We just can't.

The competition has some weight on what will come out, surely. However, no console maker can truly afford to obsess about one aspect of the console and come out with any kind of big success in that process. We saw what happened when Sony obsessed over exotic performance numbers and made online gaming an afterthought in a post-World of Warcraft gaming age. We saw what happened when Microsoft obsessed over motion controls and trying to take all of the multimedia pie they could in a post-Wii world. TLDR: You don't want them designing consoles like that. Let them have a plan and stick to it. Pray that it is an actual improvement over whatever weaknesses the last console had and doesn't invent new ones.
