[QUOTE="princeofshapeir"]Splinter Cell - Weak story, lame main character, stupid A.I., boring gameplay, and yawn-inducing stealth. But pretty fun online. :D
Metal Gear Solid - Riveting story, one of the most badass main characters in gaming history, smart A.I., have-it-your-way gameplay, and action-oriented, crazy-ass stealth/action gameplay.
MGS4 vs. Splinter Cell 5? Seriously? Seems like a total no-brainer to me... MGS4 all the way. Splinter Cell games have failed in Single Player campaigns.

the only thing keeping it from being the smartest is the 6 feet cone view (for normal difficulty and under). mgs3 fixed that i guess, but wierd i found mgs3 extreme easier than mgs2 extreme (mainly because i couldn't get passed olga)
btw LOL @ CAT!
Splinter Cell. I'm all about the gameplay, and very rarely care about the story. The moral choices angle in Double Agent was interesting, but they didn't really have much impact on gameplay, so perhaps they should develop that out more fully this time around.
MGS, on the other hand - I've tried this series several times, and just don't enjoy it. The constant interruptions, the pervasive silliness, the mechanical gameplay, the flat and segmented level design... it all drags the game down.
mgs4 for me.(go figure) always loved this game and its witty humour. kojima even makes fun of his own game with the secret theatre in MGS3. But the story is what drives me to play a single player game unless its a "pick up and play" game. Splinter Cell was fun but its just not as interesting.exiledsnake
i would give you a hi-5 but gamespot hasnt got any hi-5 emoticons :( soooo *hi-5* :P and no i dont mean anything to do with the kids show :?
While SC may not be realistic in any way Snake fights guys that come right out of a comic book, how can you compare shooting terrorists with shooting invisible robot ninjas supporting mechs with frickin lazer eyes?
Out of all the bad comparasons in SW SC vs. MGS may be the worst to base any argument on.
Splinter Cell has always been a better STEALTH game then MGS so SC winsmingo123
sales and reviews say otherwise.

Riverwolf007
If anything Thief and SC should be compared.
MGS is more of an Action game in many repsects. It doesent force you to be stealthy.
Another problem however is that Theif dominates the SC series
have to say MGS4, based mainly on my love for the series as a whole, though we can expect this installment to be great
in terms of gameplay, the two franchises are similar but i feel MGS is elevated to another level by Kojima's ideas .. adds humour, an epicness, memorable characters and dialogue, and the storylines are generally much better
on top of that we get HGW's great music .. i can immediately think of it in my head as i'm sure many others can; it's not the same with SC
PPl like MGS4 more because its a PS3 exclusive and SC:C is "merely" a 360/PC exclusive.
CMON PPL, MGS4 is NOT designed by Jesus. His name is Hideo Kojima, a ordinary guy believe it or not.

but jesus is his consultant.
Ive been playing MG and MGS from the the beginning. So I have to go with MGS4 since I actually understand the story and its freaking amazing. Killfox

What does it matter if Hideo is an ordinary man? His games are extraordinary.
Eh I don't like either one very much
SC - with its "DO THE GAMEMY WAY OR ELSE WE WILL LEAD TO A LAND OF TERRORIST *******"
or
MGS - with its never ending cutscenes and top secret american agent whose one-liners make MGS fans scream with joy about how insane the story is...
Which one?bloodbore8why would u ask that, every lemming will say SC bcz they cant even play MGS4 bcz we know how many threads a day about a rumor of MGS4 going to 360 there are... lemmings just want to play it
Another thread that proves MGS fanboys are some of the most obnoxious, deluded yo-yo's on the planet. They don't realize they are swallowing the same bilge game after game then slap each other on the back for being so smart because they "understand" this ridiculous piece of fiction. They then proceed to curse and slander any game or person who dares to disagree with them.
Splinter Cell Conviction is creating an entirely new genre while MGS4 is finally getting around to gameplay standards the original Splinter Cell set.
Double Agent sucked but it's the only Splinter Cell game I've played. I might take a look at Conviction depending on the reactions and just so I can judge the series fairly, I'll get Pandora Tomorrow.
As for the MGS series, I've been a huge fan of it since the third installment. I couldn't stop playing until my third or fourth playthrough, and I wish I got MGS2 for the PS2 (I only rented it but I loved it). I hope Sony puts MGS1 on the Playstation Store soon.
Conviction looks interesting but after playing Double Agent, I might have some doubts. I'll still keep this game on my radar. MGS4 on the other hand looks amazing and the gameplay videos got me hyped up so it's MGS4 for me.
MGS series for sure.
I'm a big fan of stealth games. The only SC game I played was the first one and I absolutely hated it. I didn't like the weapons and the gadgets and the gameplay and the levels were waaay to linear!
I don't care for the convoluted story of MGS. I like a more realistic and less out there story. SC: Conviction FTW.BioShockOwnzMy thoughts exactly, I like Splinter Cell because it's realistic.
Splinter Cell since its more relaistic and takes itself seriously unlike Movie Gear Solid which think hiding in garbage cans, rolling in barrels and laying down adult magazines is stealth :|Gh0st_Of_0nyx
The fact that MGS does not take itself as seriously is its strength.

people will attack it from any angle....the cheapest shots they can take is criticizing certain gameplay elements seriously when they are meant to be taken tongue-in-cheek
Ubisoft is just in it for the money, they don't give a crap about making better games.NavigatorsGhost
I could careless what you think, Ubisoft Montreal makes good games.

They make games that do worse in sales and critic's scores than the MGS series.
You like SC, thats great, thats your opinion. The popular vote is that MGS is superior. Accept it.

people like MGS because it has great characters that change through out the whole game and series, and it also has a great story, one of the best written for games. both of these aspects are much better then the ones in SC games. the only game that i think could rival the MGS story is probably FF:X.

Well.. to say Ubisoft is 'just as qualified' aren't they the ones responsible for the premature release of rainbowsix vegas?
