Splinter Cell or MGS?

Splinter Cell; Ubisoft does an amazing job for Microsoft in the last-gen, putting out amazing XBox game and have crappy PS2 port

MGS; exclusitivity on PS2/PS3 ( well didnt it appeared on xbox too? )

i like splinter cell better myself, i cant stand the way mgs games play. bad camera angles, the way you cant move if youre in iron sight, or the way you cant aim if you want to move and shoot at the same time

the stories are always way nicer, but i personally dont play stealth games for a good storyline

Its hard to choose really. Splinter Cell is no doubt the most realistic, and the storyline is just... genious. Metal Gear of course have less of reality, but its one of the few games that I truely got into. When you stalk your prey from the grass in MGS3.... Man, that was good stuff.... Though, punching through ice and dragging your foe into a watery grave never ceases to make me smirk....

I can't choose honestly.

MGS, by far. Splinter cell is too much of an average game. I don't care about realism, when it comes to deciding when a game is better that doesn't really matters.

MGS is story-focused, but the gameplay isn't very good.
Splinter Cell is gameplay-focused, but the stories aren't very good.
Thief is both story-focused and gameplay-focused. Thief is the king of the stealth genre. :D

Splinter Cell sometimes get a bit too realistic, which leaves you waitin around for ages for anything to happen MGS is sometime not realistic enough, like how you can kill someone with a sleeping dart even though you shoot them in the head MGS has better story and is more interesting Splinter Cell has better gameplay MGS has better action, and actually boss fights Splinter Cell has a better lead character though overall, i'd say the winner is Metal Gear Solid

metal gear solid is more fun to me. the story is way better. way better. like a billion times better. and personally i like the gameplay more. its more annoying to shoot in splintercell. and oh by the way you can shoot and run. who said you cant in mgs. i think you hold triangle and then keep moving i cant remember the button. but yeah mgs to me anyway a thousand times better than splinter cell. sadly i wont get to play it since its on ps3. and im not paying 600 bucks for one game. so come on sony give me more so i can play mgs 4.

Well, he's doing something with Suda - people think that it might be a sequal to 'Snatcher'.

If you wan't a better stealth based game, get Splinter Cell, but for a great story play the Metal Gear Series. The better game is Metal Gear, even though its mostly cinematics. ;)

MGS by far. I hear all the time, even from fans of MGS, that its strength is its story, but IMO the gameplay is just as good as the cutscenes. MGS3 gave you so many options of how to approach each area, and the bosses were just soo awesome.
I also laugh at people who call it 'Movie Gear Solid'. What, you don't like movies?

I have played both games a ridiculous number of times. Think I beat MGS3 on Extreme difficulty about 30-35 times, I am dead serious. I played through Splinter Cell CT on XBox about 4 times on Expert difficulty. MGS just has more replay value with all of the secrets and bonuses you can earn. It's also a great game for messing with the gaurds. In my opinion, the only SC game that ever came close to MGS was Chaos Theory, but then Ubisoft blew their momentum and gave the sequel (Double Agent) to Ubisoft Shanghai. Those guys ruined the sequel by "simplifying" the gameplay, and not next-genning it enough. So I think MGS is still king and SC can no longer compete. MGS4 will be the true next-gen stealth game.

On a side note, wouldn't it be awesome if the PS3 got Achievements when MGS4 comes out? Imagine the achievements for that game!

I don't get why people compare Splinter Cell with Metal Gear Solid. Splinter Cell is all stealth, Metal Gear Solid is only half stealth. Splinter Cell has very minimal storylines, but Metal Gear Solid thrives on the story.

They're really different games.

Splinter Cell. After MGS2, I've given up on Metal Gear. That game just stopped being any fun about halfway through. Splinter Cell can be kinda hit-or-miss depending on whether Montreal or Shanghai is developing, but Shanghai is improving - Double Agent was a lot of fun. I'm looking forward to seeing what they do with Conviction.

MGS has a very compelling story and great characters.

When it comes to gameplay. Thief owns them both. They both should be referred to as "Tactical Espionage Action" because neither of them really scream "STEALTH" to me.

Ok, I have played all splinter cells compared to MGS ... so in fairness I cant say ...

But ever since Splinter Cell DA came out .... WTF.... its the biggest load of cr*p ever! ... having to play two sides etc, confusing storylines ... splinter cell was a series that really didnt need revamp like this at all ... they took out most of the tools on some missions .. "tried" to clean up the interface - when that was totally not needed ...

DA remains on my shelf collecting dust and uncompleted, my biggest gaming mistake yet .... apart from this pathetic sequel, I enjoyed all the others, but Pandora was my favourite

Tactical Espionage Action - I LIKE that!! It fits perfectly :)

My choice goes to Splinter Cell.

The 1st game to use environement shadows not just as a graphical enhancement but as an integral part of the gameplay, avoiding detection in darkness. Plus using analog stick sensetivity to control speed, which in turn controlled noise made that could also lead to detection. Those to me made the best stealth gameplay ever.

Then there's the sheer diversity of character action. When sneaking and grabbing a character, that alone lead to interrogations, forcing to a retina scanner, using as a human shield. Then there's split jumping, zip lines, rapelling, charging window from a rapel, lock picking, hacking computers and key pads, sniping, disarming mines, spying on a conversation with the laser mic.

When it comes to stories, they all really DO feel like an amazing Tom Clancy novel, with plots that feel like real world political situations loaded with intrigue, and great twists that vary the game missions and objectives. Kojima IS good, but - and I honestly mean no offense by this - he can't compete with Clancy.
