Have anyone noticed lately how Square Enix been talking about the idea of a Final Fantasy VII Remake in HD a lot lately? not only that but their official twitter account have requested from followers and fans to post what they think about the idea of having a remake version in HD for Final Fantasy VII, their probably now considering making the game. Not only that but in a couple of hours in posting that tweet they had to come again and say that in a matter of little time they received thousands or millions of feedback. They have also stated that the company is now more focusing on Final Fantasy Versus XIII so we shouldnt expect it anytime soon.

What are you thoguhts? i think they have to make a remake of this game!!

I am no longer interested in remaking the game. It was fine on the original Playstation. Updating it with modern graphics, music, sound, and gameplay would be a waste of resources, that they could use to make new games.

One of the things they "talked about" was how it was going to cost over $250 million dollars and take many years to actually complete a remake, and it would be nearly impossible to complete given the new standards of the industry and how long and how much content was in the original.

I don't understand the obsession with a remake of a decent PS RPG. There are many fantastic RPG's on the PS, and most of them don't even need remakes, given how well they still stand up today, and how there are basically no modern RPG's like them.

Well, I wouldn't mind a PSP remake.

The Star Ocean remakes worked pretty good on that system and something looking like Crisis Core would be perfectly fine for me.

Then you must really dislike how Nintendo has managed it's business seeing as they have pretty much done that for the last three generations.

J/K :P (but with a hint of seriousness in it though :( )

FF7 was terrible in so many ways. Characters and Story being the main offenders.

The Materia System was excellent though. I wouldn't mind them bringing that back in a future game.

Honestly I never really cared for FF7 but I understand it is still extremely popular so I would prefer a sequel over remake. REINVENT the game in a sequel not RENEW I am afraid if they do remake the game, they will try to keep to similar mechanics that the game offered them to appease everyone but those mechanics did not age well, if they do remake the game please take risks SE, take big risks! Oh and FFVIII and FFVI> FFVII

Well I think SE after seeing how FF XIII will review (not the AAA blockbuster everyone was expecting) are now considering going back and bringing back a remake to a game they know will sell and score well as long as they don't change to much and screw it up.

I don't get this? All they have to do is update the visuals and get some voice actors. Why would this cost more than say making a new rpg with current standards and visuals?

Although I never liked FF7,I can see why they would want to do this considering how bad there games have been lately.

I would imagine that they already have a head start in remaking the game due to already having high poly character models and certain locations from the Advent Children movie. I would think that a FFVII remake would be popular enough to be economically feasible to due.

You have to be realistic.

I think the dangerous part of a potential PS3 version is that they would have to cut out portions of the original game to make it possible in the first place.

There are reasons why FFXIII is so streamlined and those reasons are money and time.

people are probably going to be disappointed if they don't make it have FF13 level CGI/in-game graphics

which is imo more likely to happen, they'll update the graphics but much like a lot of recent remakes - keep it within that same style that the original game had and not necessarily a reboot from scratch

Do you know how much a 70 hour game with many hours of full CGI cutscenes would cost? I think gamers these days don't undertand what it takes to create assets for games like those we have today. S-E made a statement saying that it would cost too much money and take too much time to update FFVII for the current generation and a remake for the PS3 is out of the question. The only people who seem to want a remake is the fans of the original, who ironically probably own at least one or two copies of the game.

Yes it would cost alot of money, but it's a known quantity and a system seller. It would sell, period. For as many of you that say, meh it was an ok game, there are thousands that love it. Its pretty well known and accepted it's the most popular game in the franchise despite your own personal taste. I own a copy of ff7, that doesn't mean I wouldn't buy a ps3 version (and a ps3 for that matter) . I understand making all those towns in hd would require alot of time and money, but you also know it will sell it, and there is something to say about giving the fans what they want. I'd much rather them work on a ff7 remake then a new final fantasy, lets face it they haven't made a good one since the ps2 came out, and the new one doesn't really sound that great either. and on that note.. lets officially call the ps2 the cause of the downfall of final fantasy, :) damn playstation

I'll gladly buy a FF7 remake if it's on the level of quality as FFXIII. I don't know if people remember but FF7 graphics were like poo. It was so early 3D that it looked even worse than 2d sprites. Also, I'd like to have a FF6 remake please.

Complete waste. I'm so tired of seeing games designed to be short. I find it telltale that the length of FF7 is what bothers them. Game makers want to tie gamers to a game purchase every few months. Which is a huge reason why titles are so uninteresting these days. Square should concentrate on making a new tactics that isn't for little school kids. I haven't touched any of the tactics sequels because really - I find them too juvenile. We have amazing technology in the PS3, what a great opportunity to make a bigger, more complex job system. Maybe some persistent world concepts or episodic storyline that you can play with your party. Let's see some amazing character development and really intricate rules systems. Push the bar a little instead of making playable cut-scenes. At the very least, can the remakes already.

It would be awesome, although they would have to add more (obvioiusly nothing to the story) to maske the game longer, after replaying it again recently its not as long as later final fantasy games, maybe something like the monster arena from FFX or the hunts form FFXII? Also I can imagine there will be a remake of FFV and FFVI (possibly on the DS2?) before there will be any remake of FFVII.

Don't know how much they can take away from those responses; SE fans that are so obsessed with the company that they bother following their twitter page, are not a good representation of the entire gaming market that SE must go after (considering the budget costs of their games this gen).

Plus remaking games of that magnitude is too difficult. How do you best a game that, in its time, was regarded so highly? How do you make perfect better? You either spend a ridiculous amount of resources, or utterly fail. Especially considering SE would have no room to be creative, because once news broke out that so-and-so is different in the remake, you piss off all of the 'hardcore' fans.

Focus on new, GOOD titles. If development costs are the excuse for shortening game time and making the game linear, NEWSFLASH- Nintendo Wii exists. Put an actual RPG on the console with good marketing and sales would be good.

How is that like Nintendo has done? Sure they use the same characters (which is why the have the rehash look), but each game is notably different from each other. I would really hate if they started doing that.

No. They need to let it die. It's over. In the past. They way to counteract losing your ability to make a good game with a good story isn't to just keep making spinoffs and rereleasing previous games that were actually good.

I love FF7 to death, but even I agree with this. Let it die, move on. FF7 came to be because they didn't sit there re-releasing FF6 18 ways from Sunday. So true.

One of the things they "talked about" was how it was going to cost over $250 million dollars and take many years to actually complete a remake, and it would be nearly impossible to complete given the new standards of the industry and how long and how much content was in the original.foxhound_fox
I don't understand why it would cost so much. They have the engine and the basic framework. Why would it cost 2.5 times what GTA4 cost to make? I realize that they would essentially be building a completely new game but having the actual design, characters, and story already there should make it cheaper, no?

Well...it probably means he personally feels FF7 is far from the best game in the series.

..it's just a guess though..don't quote me on it or anything.

The game would be huge to produce in this day and age, it was huge in the PS1 era, count how many towns and dungeons and add to that a world map.If they want to make a world map and vehicles, the scale should be realistic for both the world map and vehicles to be believable so I think it would take alot too.

but Im all for a FFVII remake.

When you play FFXIII you will see how much effort was done to make it, if people wants a FFXIII quality for a FFVII remake then expect alot of money and time.

look how many years it took FFXIII to be released and it didn't have any town.

I know the framework and engine is ready right now after FFXIII but it would take alot of time too, maybe 3 years and they said they want an environment where they could produce it and release within a 1 year.

I am no longer interested in remaking the game. It was fine on the original Playstation. Updating it with modern graphics, music, sound, and gameplay would be a waste of resources, that they could use to make new games.Willy105

Looking at the new stuff they came out with lately i think a remake would be a good choice.

Square enix are very weird. Did they not just state afew weeks ago that they weren't interested in remaking FF7 and that it would take 10 years even if they wanted to? Why now are they asking if people really want to see a remake when it was something fans have been asking for since they released that FF7 ps3 tech video? please tell me im not the only one noticing how strangely square enix are acting right now. It's almost as if some members of the team didn't get the memo or something.
