Since this is a port of the PC version, with 1080p native resolution, this is technically a "HD remaster" of the game...

Either way, if anyone wants to play a proper "HD remaster" (though not a remake), they could always just buy the PC version and then download the "Tifa's Bootleg" mod pack from the Qhimm site. That's about as close as you'll ever get to a remake of FFVII.

At least this will have trophies though being a port of the PC.

Don't care for FF VII but did they seriously have to do a big announcement of just a port of that game for the PS4? It makes sense if it was a remake but not a old PS1 game. No wonder so many people are pissed off at SE. Even a non-fan of FF VII such as myself is annoyed by this.

What was truly ridiculous was that it ended up being the 3rd to last trailer, well after some much better trailers throughout the conference.

@chronoschris: because Sony is Sony. Exclusives are always hyped, especially from third party publishers, whether it's Square, Capcom, Crystal D, or Eidos. No Man's Sky gets all the hype and we know virtually nothing about it other than a view tech demos.

I think the bigger problem are the blocky lego-like field character models. Square Enix should have at least replaced them with the battle character models. And if they couldn't even do that, they could have just used the mods at the Qhimm site which already did that (along with a bunch of other mods, like upscaling the backgrounds and menus, and remastering the soundtrack). But even that was too much for Square Enix, it seems.

Square Enix isn't just limited to Final Fantasy, but they also own Dragon Quest, Chrono, Kingdom Hearts, Space Invaders, Tomb Raider, Deus Ex, Hitman, Thief, etc. They also own amusement arcades (e.g. Taito Station) and publish manga (e.g. Fulmetal Alchemist, Black Butler, Soul Eater, etc.), movies and other media. Even if their flagship franchise Final Fantasy doesn't do well, they have plenty of other franchises and media.

This thread is more about how they announced it. They shouldn't have gone on stage to announce a re-release. Hence why a remake was expected when he started talking about FF7 on stage.

@trugs26: Yeah The Announcement should have been a tweet from Square and a Youtube Video rather than a hype conference like this one. The Audience went from Cheers to Crickets.

Seriously why did Square Enix need to be in the conferee to announce the port? i mean just announce it without being in the conference and trolling everyone.. sigh i was seriously sure it was FF7 remake but nope! SE worse than Kojima at trolling

kojima trolls but at least delivers, square announcing a port of a port of a 17 yo game without any kind of improvement is just plain stupid, there is a line of how much they can milk that game

I never played the original. I don't care a whole lot, but I am interested in playing it if they do a proper update. I usually don't care for HD remakes, but FF7 is one of those games that has aged the worst out of all the classics, even worse than SNES games.

It's a bit of a shame that we always get HD remakes that don't really need an update and a game like this gets nothing at all.

I would have been happy if they announced Final Fantasy XII HD

Anyone who wants to play ff7 has already done so on the ps3/psp or pc. Technically its on the psn so it should already be available on the ps4

I know one of the lead developers from S enix, there is a remake coming, stop crying.

My Dad also works for Nintendo, They said their getting bought out by Sega and they're making Dreamcast 2.
