Square Enix's Taking Sexuality Up a Notch (Now With a Trailer).

Square's new IP "NieR Replicant" is taking interesting choices when it comes to it's characters, you know how you always complain about SE characters looking like girls? Well, in "NieR Replicant" one of the characters is actually a hermaphrodite, so now you're getting a character that looks like a girl and has man parts, what's your stand on this?

The description itself:

Kaine

A female warrior and partner of Nier, she was part-possessed in a demonic attack, and became a hermaphrodite.

As a result she was bullied from an early age, and out of resentment came to emphasise her female characteristics excessively through her choice of clothing. However, her demeanour, attitude and speech are extremely rough and masculine.

lol are we sure its not just a dude that looks like a girl? oh and why is it they cant follow real life? why is it most of the time their men/girls look better then the orginal freaking girls? When a good 90% of cross dressers...etc look like really really ugly manly chicks pre-op.
Id rather they push the boundries by having actual sexual relationships touched upon not giving us what seems to be the rage in jpn, men/girls.

Most men in Anime look like girls anyway, so nothing really changed.

I don't like the last line of the italics.

And I just read a bit more and realized she's a hermaphodite. I want to say I'm still getting that version?...But I'm not sure.

I'm pretty sure this woman was just a female part possessed with a male spirit, like Momohime from Muramasa. I don't think she dons any male parts/organs/features like any actual herms. yoshi_64

I like her, um, him? A lot less boring than what I'm used to with square lately.

It does look a little too much like Shin Megami Tensei. Though if Atlus can't be bothered doing them like that anymore, good for square.

My opinion Final Fantasy main series should be taking these risks, not being bland. Thats half of what the series was all about. They need to make new IP's to do original cool stuff now?

I'm intrigued. I like to play as women or feminine males. Obviously this is a chick with man parts and a rough voice, but it should still be fun.

It's not completely clear still how the 360-only Nier Gestalt and the PS3-only Nier Replicant are connected to each other. Both are set in the same world, and both have the same basic plot of Nier (a rough-and-tough white-haired swordsman) traveling the world to save a girl named Yonah from the Black Scrawl virus. The Niers of both games are different, though; the one you control in Replicant looks a great deal younger and more slender than the muscular, rugged hero of Gestalt. What's more, Yonah is Nier's daughter in Gestalt but his younger sister in Replicant. Two different takes on the same story, perhaps, or a way for Square Enix to differentiate the two ports?

I was already somewhat confused as to what was going on with this game. Is it still a multiplat? Is it exclusive? Are they really making two similar games with very different characters/plot points on the two systems?

I'll tell you what, if they were aiming to keep a buzz going then they have suceeded. I could give a care about this "Gender Bender" thing, but the whole mystery about this game's composition on a multiplat level has me intrigued. I'll definitely be keeping an eye on this one...

Well, japanese have always had a strange fascination for dick girls ..and tentacles. Not that I have anything against herms, but I hope this stuff wasn't done just for the sake of doing. But tbh it's hard to to imagine what significance the protagonist's gender/sexuality will play in a game that most likely won't have any gameplay involving sex. Makes it seem like it's just for some free publicity, and to attract those pimple faced hentai fans to it.
