I definitely dont buy that a game will look this good running in a full blown environment with AI at 60 (or even 30) FPS, BUT it is a nice tech demo, and at least it shows something. It would be crazy if they could make a game for PC that looked this good.

What a way to show off a new engine rendering in real time, an empty corridor.

there's a change in the winds says i, just think of what a top of the line pc can do in about 3-4 years, even the next gen consoles will pull some of this stuff. interesting times ahead and square seems to be the only japanese company out there trying to push the graphics boundaries for which too long the west has dominated.

Too bad it won't be used in any good games.

Also it hardly matters what kind of detail they can get out of it when all it's rendering is a tiny corridor with nothing in it.

That's the point of a tech demo. Show off the engine in a way that makes it look way better than it will ever look in game.

This is the only tech demo i've seen that is literally just one tiny corridor with no effects, no enemies, ect.

Usually tech demo's are much longer and have decent content. Samaritan demo?

Looks like an advanced source engine. I'd like to see how it does ground (bumpy) textures and complex objects like characters and vegetation.

Looks about as exciting as aSquare Enix game.

Boy they sure can make a good looking empty hallway, with nothing going on.... and it only took a High End PC to run it. Good Work SE!

Unreal Engine tech demois literally 100 times more impressive

By the way, Luminous Studio will be compatible with any hardware that can handle programmable shaders. It will work, apparently, on PS3 and Xbox 360. (http://andriasang.com/comxrx/)

What's the whole point behind releasing tech demos when the majority of them never come to fruition? If they're not going to be used in the slightest bit, then I see no point in wasting money and time to develop a presentation that will not become a reality until much later on in the future (and more likely done by a different developer). In a way, it might raise hype for a game publisher and/or game developer, but only a small group of people will even be able to catch of a glimpse of these videos altogether, so really, there's little incentive in making decisions like this one.

Good thing they're getting this out of the way early, they really bogged themselves down this gen just developing the Crystal Tools engine.

Tech 5 isn't for license (unless you publish with ZeniMax/Bethesda), and we've never seen it's full real-time lighting, just what it does when baking.

Also, I like the stle of UE still, it give games a... gamelike finish :D, instead of being perfectly realistic.

Are you honestly telling me that's just not just some guy walking down a corridor and filming?MushroomWig
There is some aliasing on the floor... Also, it's not the highest quality video, low quality videos can hide some low quality rendering.

the lighting was definitely impressive. also, it would be great if next generation engines reduced cost significantly. lower development costs leads to more daring games.

Lol! The tech demo is runnign on a PC with DX 11.

So Nvidia was right, after all. It's purely consoles holding back what could be a next engine NOW, on PC.

Of course they were right... However, pc users are holding back pc too, there are still people who've played WoW for 6 years and paying over 1k in subs, who play on toasters.

-.- Some people do, and it doesn't help at all, didn't say 'all' or anything. But it would surly help if entry computers didn't suck (thankfully AMD's APU's are helping here) and if people wouldn't sit on ancient hardware when they should cut some games/get sales and get a new computer more often.

"If I take a picture and after this I create the same objects in a game with the right materials, I can achieve a rendering that is very close to the picture because I'm using the physical parameters of the real world." - Square Enix technology officer Jullien Merceon.

tldr, I took refrence from real world objects and made them. I still dont get the big deal xD.

That was really nothing at all. I will be impressed when they actually put it in a game. If they can make an open world as big as Skyrim and still look that good then I will be impressed.

He does have a point. There are millions of PC gamers who buy a decent amoutn of games, and support their platform, but there are also several million more than do WOW and won't even give any other games a shot, or worse, pirate their games.

Well, you're right, only about 5% of the market would have the rig to play somehting liek the tech demo.

But it's early yet. I'm sure they haven't had time to properly tune performance. And we don't relaly know the specs of the system either. It might be runnign on a workstation, or a GTX 460. Who knows!

Actually that is quite brilliant. At first glance, and even after examining, it looked so real it was hard to tell. It was all about the lighting. The lighting was so damn realistic it was scary.

Also it is something that you would find in real life. An empty, kind of dirty hallway leading to an undground area. In real life, there aren't boxes and bushes everywhere like there are in video games.
