I hate to admit it, but it will.

Well...maybe not for everyone, but the really good players won't enjoy it.

Why?

As any great fighting gamer will tell you, most games are all about speed and timing. MvC2, VF series, Tekken series...all come down to the tiniest of frames when in tournament play. 1/10 of a second can decide a match.

Same goes with SSB. I don't want this to turn into a "SSB is / isn't deep" argument, but I'm sure many of you can see that the game, when played at a really high level, requires precise timing.

Unless Nintendo finds a godly way to make the it possible for absolutely no lag, then really good players won't like playing via online. They won't be able to see who really is better.

So, as much as I hope SSBB will be great online, I can't see myself being entirely satisfied...

Actually SSB is worse off then most other fighters when it comes to online play because it absolutely relies on precision timing, which is not so important as in DoA, Tekken or anything along those lines(which are about stringing together combos).

Aww thats Weak. I never thought about that. I've never played a fighter online, how bad is lag if both ppl are running highspeed.

It'll be something to play around with when you're bored and want a good laugh but the real game will remain offline where it should be. Maybe if Nintendo hosts on dedicated servers it won't be such a problem, I wouldn't put my money on it though. I'd prefer to play with close friends on the couch drinking however.

Lag can never be avoided, in FPS games the server predicts where you will be in the next 1/10th of a second and does its calculations based on that postition. I think for a fighter it would be kind of worse due to switching directions with relative ease.

There would be a lot less players and since SS:BB is a 2d playing style there is so many less coordinates needed to be sent to the server. There's always the problem with not knowing the hosts connection speed however so it would probably be better to play against people you know.

In FPS's it's slightly understandable to use such methods. But I'd thought for fighters they'd use the "Send move to server > Broadcast move" which would have some lag but minimal. Also the moves that players perform would somehow be in sync (But we all know how random internet connections can be... )

Edit: Mushroom... Like Shiek? :?

I usually pick unorthadox characters like Ness who look like they don't stand a chance. Yoshi and Peach come in handy sometimes.

Lag may not be a real issue. Like some of the newer DS games: Instead of the laggy player going zig zag all over the place it just slows the framerate (for all players) down until the lag subsides then goes back to full throttle!

;-; dude... thats what I do! Seriously! I always go for the character no one uses. I hate playing as popular characters. Besides, beating someone senseless with a lower teir character is so satisfying.

Jump Super Stars and Jump Ultimate Stars don't seem to have much lag, so I don't think SSBB will have that much either.
