I agree with vandal, sometimes polished feels like they actually applied polish to everything in the game, giving it a weird unnatural feel. The UE3 engine is the best example of that feeling.Nikalai_88

That's more like an understatement, everything litterally shines with a glowing aura of light around it. I really thought everything wa over-bloomed (sh1tty pun, I know).

I may sound crazy, but I think Clear Skies will be up the ranks with Deus Ex and SS2 is pulled off perfectly.

I reckon they need to fix the loading times though, that was a pain.

I think it needs its bugs and uncompletable quests to be fixed and polished, but the graphics and atmosphere need to stay gritty and unpolished, if you know what I mean. I'd also like the story to be delivered in more cutscenes like Crysis, instead of having to read your notes so much. Graphics look excellent though. Honestly I think the original Stalker is very beautiful graphically and highly underrated. Stalker Clear Skies will be fps of the year I reckon.screamingdoom

The way the story was told was to help keep the atmosphere. i think it should stay that way. I agree with your comment on S:SoC being underrated graphically.

[QUOTE="mingo123"]motion blur makes this game look good + by the time this game is released it will be outdated lol like Stalker...it took ages to releaseDrinkDuff

you thought Stalker looked out dated? i hope you don't play console games then.

In some ways Stalker does look outdated, actually. The atmosphere and some of the lighting effects are fantastic but, the textures are not that crisp, especially the guns, and some of the animations are wonky. And I play on consoles, seeing as my computer isn't powerful enough to be my main platform, so yes I can say this with confidence.

Outdated textures? Lolz WTF??

When you're underground, the textures look pretty amazing. Although I will say that up top when you're by the towns the textures aren't the greatest, but they are still good.

But a simple graphical overhaul mod fixes that problem.

No they are still good, if i still had the game installed (re-installed windows today) i would take some pics, the texture quality on the buildings, roads, trees, ect are still very good. Iv actually found that i don't really like any of the graphical mods, adding motion blur to the game game is the only way in which i modify the graphics and it makes the game look alot more realistic.

Okay? You just told me I was wrong and then agreed with me lol. I said the textures are good, I never said they were bad in any way.

It's in the eye of the beholder as to whether the game looks better with graphical overhaul mods or not, so you can't really argue with me on that one.

I'm very hyped for this game. I think that the first Stalker really gave you a sense of danger when going out and exploring. It was hard but not impossible. Going into new territory was always very atmospheric and you almost didnt want to go. Then you'd find that out there you would then have to go underground!

Honestly, wandering down those dark underground areas with the occasional wierd stuff going on really was some of the most scariest game experiences I have ever had.

I wouldnt say they look better than Crysis, certainly not far away and the whole artstyle, post apocalyptic thing is awesome. Wish one of our nuclear reactors would blow in the UK! lol ;)

Technically it cant compare to Crysis, but they are still very impressive and set in a more interesting environment then Crysis, Ever since i herd about Chernobyl i thought it would be cool to have a game set there.

Oh BS :P

Not even close? Not a tiny bit? Imo it looks better. But I wasn't specificly looking at the technical details like ''motion blur'' or whatever. Just the environments/artistic design. Stalker the is more atmospheric then Crysis. Also it has more gameplay elements. But this just my opinion overall. So I'm biased ;d

Yeah I don't think those screens are too far behind Crysis. Honestly though I prefer the environment in Stalker compared to Crysis, so that's why it looks so visually pleasing to me. That's kind of strange though. If you were asked whether to go to the remains of a ghost city, or go to a tropical paradise, most would pick the tropical paradise yet I like the delapidated nuclear waste dump more. Interesting....

How about a game set in the jungle roads of South America? Just imagine, you're in a 4WD on your way to the next village, and around the turn you see a fallen tree log blocking your road. As you naturally get out to remove it, bandits with massive machetes surround you. Honestly, that's pretty freaky in itself. Didn't know humans could get that freaky.

Sure, maybe a tiny bit.. but technically it's not close at all. Artistically sure, but that's opinion, so you can't really argue about that.

You can only really argue about technicality, which Crysis wins hands down.

And gameplay elements? I would say no. But that's completely opinion also.

Stalker Environements and textures were superb. The problem was with the character models and objects and it seems that hasn't changed.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R still has the best enviroment textures imo. What they need to improve in Clear Sky is the character models, the foilage, touch up the trees and Fix AA. If they do this I will be as happy as a pig in ****

I never meant to say that STALKER looked bad, I just though parts of it like the AA and blur effects were outdated, I still think it has better textures and indoor lighting than any game out their.

I can't wait for Clear Sky. Shadow of Chernobyl was my favourite shooter of 2007.

Looks really nice, but I'll worry about Clear Skies after I finish Shadow of Chernobyl, which may take some time since the camouflage mutants tend to leave me paralyzed with fear.

yeah, the underground portions of the game are terrifying.
