I'm definately interested in the game's possible port to consoles. It does look unique, so that's a big plus.RavensmashIt would be nice, more people need to play this game. Maybe if Metro is successful than there could be a port. At least next gen.

Maybe if Metro is successful than there could be a port. At least next gen. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GSC_Game_World Xbox 360 Developer rights In November 2007 GSC got Xbox 360 developer rights. They now have permission to make games for the Xbox 360. In September 2009 GSC announced that it will port STALKER to the consoles (360, possibly PS3, Wii, and PSP) but only after Call of Pripyat comes out because of the lack of man-power in GSC.
The games are something of a niche, like Deus Ex, not everybody is going to love them, but those who do, get a great deal of pleasure, more so than any heavy budgeted game can ever provide.I've always respected the Stalker franchise, but I never really got into it as much as everyone else seems to. I always tell myself I need to sit down for another play session, because I'm obviously missing something, but I never do get around to it.

A bit of trivia: did you know that at first Stalker supposed to be a sci-fi game that looked a bit like Halo?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q28qXfvcE6c
That's the build from 2001, looked really good back then.
i have soc waiting on my steam account that i got with the thq pack, now i want to play it, but i'll wait until i finish red faction guerilla first. if it's good i might pick up cop for £15, with the steam loyalty offer.
I disagree. SoC and CS are broken messes. CoP is great, though. SparkyProtocol
Whil CS is still a broken mess, SoC has long since been patched up and works fine now. And even if it isn't considered a classic for it's gameplay (which you imply that it isn't), it definitely is because its mods. SoC is a text book example of how great mods can truly be and how they can improve a games experience. Honestly, mods are a part of the picture, that's why I include them in when I say SoC is a classic.
They are pretty much the Cult Classic series of the gen :P
That series have had me spend more hours in ti then any other FPS game this gen, and impressed me way more aswell.
It is not for everyone tho, and I fear Metro 2033 will bump into the same problem.
This game series pretty much have everything I expected from this gen, and man it is good :3
What makes it so good is that everyone have a fairly different experience, due to the ai, and very non liniar way it is made.
One of my favorite times in the games, was in SoC, under a thunderstorm one night, where I sat in the ruin of an old Factory, looking through my equipment, to decide if I should push further in, or go back to get more ammo, and fix my weapons and armor (yes I use mods ^^). I began to hear a commontion outside, so I hurried to the door, and tryied spotting around with the scope.
A pack of wild dogs (a freakin huge pack, never seen so many dogs), were chasing 3 mercs, who were running for thier lives, blindfireing back at the copple. In the end they were hunted down, killed, and the dogs started to eat them, they lost most of thier number, so I cautiously walked out, fired a few bullets up in the air, and the durviving Dogs, legged it, I scavanged the corpses, and found a decent amount of ammo, a less damaged gun, and some medpacks, I pressed further into the zone.
Too bad that I later bumped into a few Bloodsuckers, who tore me apart in a bloody mess -.-
I have a PC, 360, PS2, and a PSP. I have played the heavy hitters for the Xbox, ie. Gears, Halo, PGR4, Forza, you name it. I also played Bioshock, Crysis, FarCry 2, Mass Effect 1,2. basically played them all (except for PS3 titles) But The STALKER series beets them all. These 3 Games are truly magnificent. The setting of the game and the Xray engine are a perfect match. The game makes you nervous (the underground labs), cautious, and it completely draws you in. Then there are the mods, oblivion lost, Complete 2009, weapon ballistics, texture rework, etc. Weapon modifications, suit modifications, artifact hunting add a lot to already grat game play. No console game has yet to impress me like this, even last gen console games are't a match. IMO STALKER even beets Half-Life 2 + episodes (though a close match). And to think what GDC has done on such a low budget, what other devs, especially console ones can't even think of accomplishing, even with way bigger budgets. LOL at console devs spending millions so game X 2 will look marginally better than game X1 ( not bashing consoles, just the recent trend in console development) As long as Developers such as GDC continue making games, PC gaming will thrive. There are fan sites dedicated to the STALKER games and universe, they organize gatherings, play a bit of paint ball dressed up as stalkers(strong nerd, I know), fan made movies, etc. There is something really engaging about wondering about a dangerous, wonderful, and desolate world, where it is you and you rifle. Sure there are imperfections, but there are also moments that you remember for a long time. It is the package, with imperfections included that make this game a classic.Anyone else share my opinion? Post some of your STALKER stories, screenshots, impressions. This game isn't getting nearly enough attention.muscleserge
S.T.A.L.K.E.R : Shadow of Chernobyl should be a classic, Clear Sky and Call of Pripyat are kinda rehashy to me. All of em are scary as hell but only Shadow of Chernobyl was realy revolutionary.
I hope the next STALKER game improves on the survival aspect of its predecesors. Like you needing to find water and food that would be heavily contested for and sometimes contaminated etc. and be more sandboxy.
the first stalker will be ported to consoles...all the others wont..call of pripyat is exclusive to the pc... the GSC CEO wants to keep the franchise pc exclusive
[QUOTE="SparkyProtocol"]I disagree. SoC and CS are broken messes. CoP is great, though. Revan_911Well to be fair to the game they were patched.
That, and thanks to the modding scene, we've had some fantastic fixes brought about. The most recent, and by far the best in my eyes is the Stalker Complete 2009 mod.
I agree SoC has a really great atmosphere. They are excellent games. The mood and atmosphere is fantastic.

I've always wanted to play the S.T.A.L.K.E.R games. I keep hearing about how good they are with mods and such. I just might get all of them soon.

shadow of chernobyl is the only game where (in the poorly lit underground sections) ive come across a pitch black room, heard a bone chilling gurgle from inside and thought no way am i going in there! in any other game id be straight in, torch on, blasting away but stalker's macabre, desolate atmosphere is so effective that i weighed up my options and thought... ill pass
incredible series, with the right mods and mindset, it can be one of the best pieces of interactive entertainment around.

That is a great comparison game.. the first dues ex gave me a similar feeling (well not in atmosphere but in options and loot systems).I've always respected the Stalker franchise, but I never really got into it as much as everyone else seems to. I agree Stalker is a phenomial game!!! I have the original and clear sky and love every second of them. I love how you can play the games over and over and do things differently each time. Starting from the first mission. Do you approch the camp head on guns blazing with your 2-3 support people from the camp with you or do you go in slow stealth and lure them out one by one. I remember hiding in a barrel and blowing their heads off with a shot gun when they came into view 9 feet away. Then you go in to collect all the great armor , guns, gear , artifacts, etc... STalker is one of my favorite fps games , basically due to the rpg elements , excellent realistic shooting mehcnaics and atmosphere. Stalker is a gem!! I haven't played the new game, is it even out in the states? I haven't seen it.Midnightshade29Yes. You can buy the collectors edition for 40 $ on Amazon or the digital version 20$ on steam. I recommend the collectors edition it comes with all sorts of trinkets, like a map some jacket patches ect.
when is stalker cop coming to steam or digital distro? I don't buy my pc games on disc any more since they stopped puting maps and extras in pc game boxes, i stopped buying the boxes.. (which was a damn stupid move if you ask me.) Why isn't it on steam?Midnightshade29It is on steam. Well i live in Europe and i see it on Steam here. 20euros. But dude buy the collectors edition its really awesome i told you it comes with all sorts of stuff. It's only available trough amazon ( As far as i know) . Here's amazon link with more details http://www.amazon.com/Viva-Media-587-S-T-A-L-K-E-R-Pripyat/dp/B002QE22DQ
I think I remember the exact part you are talking about...I did the same thing lolshadow of chernobyl is the only game where (in the poorly lit underground sections) ive come across a pitch black room, heard a bone chilling gurgle from inside and thought no way am i going in there! in any other game id be straight in, torch on, blasting away but stalker's macabre, desolate atmosphere is so effective that i weighed up my options and thought... ill pass

The only problem with stalker is it makes other fps games feel boring and very linear. Maybe i should finsih bioshock 2 first. (still going to buy it now)
I thought SOC was awesome when it first came out. Played through it quite a few times and it's even better with some of the mods out there. I never liked CS though, just didn't really seem to improve on SOC at all. I havn't played COP yet but I've heard it isn't very good, I might pick it up later when it comes down in price though.
It's 20euro on steam, don't know what it is in $ maybe 25. What are you waiting for?!!I thought SOC was awesome when it first came out. Holy crap I didn't realise it was also only 20USD on steam as well, that's only like 28 bucks NZD. Hell I may actually consider getting it since it's that cheap.I thought SOC was awesome when it first came out. I just played CoP for 7 hours straight today. I didnt plan on it. It just kind of happened. Killfox
Happened to me the day I purchased the game. It was Sunday, all my schoolwork was done, no one hitting up the phone, already excerised for the day, etc, etc (so basically I had unlimited free time). Figured I would play for a while, then switch to Dragon Age. Four hours later... still playing Stalker. Amazing game, to say the least.
