[QUOTE="FrozenLiquid"]Oblivion also has some fantastic A.I across the board, despite going multi-plat. What was frustrating, however, was the other features going more streamlined/action-oriented. _Pedro_

lmao Oblivion AI s*cks

Yeah we can all post retarded A.I in any system, but you have to take a step back to appreciate a work of art.

Work of art? The AI was down right pathetic in Oblivion. There are very few signs of brilliance and a lot more signs of retardation.

We're not talking only about the AI, but about other features that made STALKER so famous and unique - open-ended and non-linear gameplay, combined with huge levels. Do you really believe that those features will remain or, dunno, get upgraded (in some wild imagination) after STALKER goes completely multiplatform?IgGy621985

I just try to keep my mind open and never discard a game before I've got proof there's something wrong with it. If the 360 port of Stalker works well I don't see how consoles could technically hinder Stalker 2, especially as it considering the development time of the first one probably would be released on next gen (next next, depending on how you view them) consoles anyway.

It's the producers believing console gamers want easier and more streamlined games that is the true problem, but that is only a myth anyway which I hope producers realize sooner or later.

Okay, so shall we go find Youtube videos of the absolute retardation of Crysis's A.I? Or the exploitations in the Brute A.I in Halo 3? Are they fair representations of the both respective A.I systems? Of course they aren't. Same goes with Oblivion. In any case, you are just hating on it because Oblivion kinda sucked in general. It did have good A.I. It's pretty darn amazing what they pulled off. A far cry from the static A.I found in Morrowind.

I see that it has flashes of brilliance, but it's held down by the utter stupidity of the rest. Everytime the AI does something unique it's scripted and the AI itself reacts to that. It's the same like any game, the only problem in Oblivion is that it tries to give the NPC various choices in how it would react to a certain event and usually it ends up executing them very poorly.

Oh and remember, I am strictly speaking of the PC version. I wouldn't be to surprised if the AI was better on the 360.

[QUOTE="FrozenLiquid"]

Just to throwing this out there, "Dumbing the A.I" isn't necessary for "dumbing down the game" from PC to console. A.I virtually (no pun intended) always evolves, no matter what system.FrozenLiquid

It's very unlikely for the AI to remain as smart as it is. Publishers believe consolites will get too frustrated and not buy if they can get slaughtered by enemies while they're looking at the map - they've made assumptions about the audience an it shows in their games.

Considering this "consolite-only" game Halo 3 has A.I to rival that of S.T.A.L.K.E.R and Crysis, and despite the frustrations of hermits believing it so -- it's true. Halo 3 has some of the best A.I in any FPS yet. Oblivion also has some fantastic A.I across the board, despite going multi-plat. What was frustrating, however, was the other features going more streamlined/action-oriented. It wasn't the A.I itself. If publishers believed consolites will get too frustrated to get slaughtered by enemies, then difficulty settings would have been thrown out the window, and Mass Effect wouldn't have shipped over one million units. Neither of those are true, however.

Halo 3's AI actually isn't all that great. I don't want to get into a discusson on Halo 3 here, this is a thread about Stalker, but the enemies mostly follow pre-scripted quips and patrol patterns when you're not "in view" of them. Their "interactions" just aren't as complex.

Legendary is hard, but not because the enemies are *smart* and *tricky* - it's difficult because their aim, damage, and health are increased. They aren't particularly more clever on Legendary than any other difficulty, just more likely to land a sticky nade or headshot.

[QUOTE="FrozenLiquid"]Oblivion also has some fantastic A.I across the board, despite going multi-plat. What was frustrating, however, was the other features going more streamlined/action-oriented. _Pedro_

Oblivion does have really bad AI. All of Oblivion's AI is pre-scripted, it's not well written *at all* which causes *tons* of problems if you experiment with the game & mods. STALKER is smart, Oblivion is the kid who sticks his finger in the plug socket fifty times in a row. I need only mention "psychic guards" to understand that this game's AI is poor at best.

[QUOTE="Wasdie"]I seriously need to play this game. Though I heard it runs like crap on Vista.RK-Mara

Really? I never had any problems.

Yeah, I have Vista Business Edition and STALKER runs *perfectly* on my system. I run it in administrator mode. Make sure you have the 1.005 patch and the Float32 mod, (I personally recommend "No Head Bob" as well, unless you don't get motion sick ever) combine all of these and the game has not given me any trouble.

No, seriously, System Wars, how did we miss one of the best games this year? Where was the outcry? subrosian

I didn't miss it. It was actually fairly known and hyped at the time (even at E3 a few yrs ago). When it actually came out though, it had A LOT of technical problems. When I got it I couldn't start it and didn't know why. I found out I needed to expand my page files or something (can't remember). Anyway, the point is, it alienated a lot of people but the people who got it running really loved it.

Also, it didn't help that the 1st patch (maybe 2nd) made all of your saves unusable so you had to start over.

I loaned it from a friend, but it didn't start up, even after patching. Should try again another time, seems like a cool game.

Bioshocks not really an RPG at all.

It has an RPG element in it - but compared to Stalker its knowhere as much of an RPG.

I view both of them as pure FPS's.

those who didn't miss it are too busy playing it to come into system wars and spark console jealousy. Stalker should have been GOTY. It shows how good pc only games turn out when they dont have to be dumbed down for consoles / multiplatform NEOSPARKING

Thats ridicuolous the game was buggy as hell on release and til the patch was a mess. If it was released on consoles it may not of had that amount of bugs and its coming to consoles 08 trust me.

Tis good game though but not GOTY at all. I liked the way it pulled you in but than it got extremely boring at times and some areas felt empty.

I cant wait for the sequel. And the console release of Stalker will be fully patched (fingers crossed) and be an amazing game. I may pick it up again to play on a pad and for achievements. Good play tho...

That is more debatable. I'd probably call it an FPS-RPG hybrid.

I usually don't care that much about genre clas-sifications but I just find people claiming games like Bioshock would be RPG's to be ridiculous. The only real roleplaying you do in the whole game is deciding whether or not to save the little sisters and even that has no real effect on the story or gameplay.

Stalker does have more roleplaying but it's still clearly an FPS IMO. Especially towards the end it plays exactly like any oher fairly realistic fps out there.

What makes you think that:roll:

Rampant consolite-think.

If you're talking about buggy code in the game, that exists on console games, and being on a console makes it less likely for it to be fixed.

If you're talking about hardware compatibility issues, consoles have fixed hardware, hence the ease in that deperatment, however even on PCs that's rarely a problem if you know what's in your machine.

-

Plenty of console games are buggy though, that's why stuff like LIVE has been good for gamers - being online means your games can be patched.

I love STALKER. It's better than BioShock.

Most underrated games this year are both on PC, STALKER and Galactic Civs 2: Dark Avatar. Most people haven't even heard of Dark Avatar. It's too nerdy, but still the average ratio on Gamerankings is 93%.

RK-Mara

Galactic Civ 2 is an amazing game. It beats the pants off of civilization. Still want an alpha centauri 2 though, that was the best game of all.

As for STALKER, it is a fantastic game but has more than its share of flaws. The last half of the game is not all that great, as you get insanely powerful weapons and armor which kinda kills the whole 'realism aspect of it all.

There's certainly a notable degree of "ability scaling" even early in the game, though it has been at a solid (enjoyable) pace. I've gone from having to run from many encounters to being able to handle small groups - though I imagine getting to a point where I could handle huge groups with ease might actually be enjoyable for a bit after so many hours of slogging it out in meticulous, careful combat.

Still I'll have to get further before I can say one way or another with certainty.

I just bought it yesterday.
It looks great so far, although I don't have much of an idea about what exactly I'm doing.

It doesn't seem very noob-friendly, but I'm willing to overlook that if the game is deep enough.
