Citizen Con is Cloud Imperium Games’ annual celebration of Star Citizen and the incredible community that is making the game’s development possible. Citizen Con marks the original October 2012 announcement of the Star Citizen crowdfunding campaign, and the event has previously been held in Austin, Los Angeles and Manchester. This year, Citizen Con returns to Los Angeles for an action-packed day that will celebrate the latest and greatest work our developers are putting out.

What to Expect?

Squadron 42 gameplay finally please. this is the last chance.

I would love some Squadron 42 gameplay.

Sigh, I wish the presentation was a little earlier. It starts at midnight where I'm from and I have to get up early. ~_~

I have been waiting for SQ42 gameplay for a long long time. if they dont show again. I will lost all interest in game.

They've confirmed it. Entire mission of Squadron 42 will be shown; Mission briefing, interaction with other characters, getting inside your ship, dogfighting, landing on some base and then FPS action etc.

Aside from SQ42, I honestly can't wait to see the new planets they got. Those two rocks they showed us at Gamescom are peanuts compared to what we're about to see.

Yeah that would be great (Wing Commander did BTW). I think they will allow us, at least in some missions. Don't know if that'll be the case in all missions though. I guess we'll learn about that later tonight/today.

I sort of agree, maybe not "last chance" but close.

The level shown better be polished, they can't hide behind the "its alpha, and nowhere near release" excuse anymore... normal AAA companies this close to release have verticle slices that are shiny and polished. CiG ... were suppose to release this year, even if its delayed 6 months.. games like the Witcher 3 showed complete slices at this point in time.

I don't mind some technical glitches and roughness... but it better be damn high quality content... or colour me back in the "this ain't gonna live up..." group.

All i care about today is SQ42 gameplay..everything else is just a bonus

Already confirmed that it is a "Full mission, from the moment of waking up from your bed, to mission complete" .. probably a very early easy mission, not expecting anything super flashy. as the game is a Flight Sim / Sim Game first and foremost, so don't go expecting Titanfall/CoD/Doom sort of pacing... think more ARMA....

So what's the general consensus right now?

Do people think it's still going to be made?

Or do people think it's going to be the biggest bust of all time?

Or is it just not going to live up to expectations?

I read the Kotaku piece recently... which doesn't inspire me. It's the same criticisms of behind-the-scenes drama from a year or two ago.

its impossible for it to live up to everyone's expectations,but i do expect SQ42 to be released sometime spring of 2017.

I'm guessing you read the hit piece that makes Derek Smart out to be an unfortunate victim and not the narcissistic liar that he actually is? That 'article' is about as accurate as the Escapist claiming Sandi Gardner is a racist, ageist who's skimming the money out of the game to promote her acting career.

I also read the Kotaku piece which came out several weeks ago. They did their own research, and came to similar conclusions.

By and large, there seem to be two camps at the moment: one side who desperately want to see it fail to say "I told you so", and the other side who desperate want it to succeed to say "I told you so".

Aaaaand changed my mind. I don't have to get up that early so I should still be able to watch it now, or at least partly depending on how long their delay will be.

Btw the time reached 0 a few min ago so the preshow (whatever that will be) should start pretty soon. Knowing CIG, probably in half an hour.

To be perfectly honest I don't really care what others think, all I want is the game to come out and live up to it's potential. I wouldn't have been following it (and backed it) since the start otherwise. It does confuse the shit out of me why any so called 'gamer' would want the most ambitious game in history to fail so much though, even to the point that even some professional bloggers want it to fail.

I'll also add. Lol, Kotaku research, there isn't an actual journalist among them.

There is a middle way, the article showed the problems most backers already knew about... internal struggles to get it under control. But, as the article also suggests, those growing pains are now past. Everyone bar a few contractors are now inhouse, and the progress over the last 6 months has been far better than the past.

So I think, from a more balanced stand point (e.g... not a overly-praising fan) as long as funding remains (which it looks like it will do) ... it'l get done.

Cmon Gar and Cloud .... the kotaku articles was really well accepted by the community, and it re-affirmed what I thought over the last 2 years pretty much spot on, progress was crap. end of discussion.

The game is not near completion, and given the games controversy currently... also, these presentations are not as "professional" as you expect from E3 etc... they are sometimes pretty cringy.

I'm sure when final release approaches, the game will get more general attention. right now its still unproven.
