A lot of weight on the developer's shoulders.

I wonder how publishers look at this.

if this and other kickstart projects and project eternity and wasteland 2 are successful;they will begin to fear the idea of crowdfunding.

Im sure publishers are quietly watching star citizen

I GUARANTEE you because of StarCitizen EA soon announces a new X-wing/Tie-Fighter game....well if they had any sense they would but then again this is EA.... :/

If it does, it would be a fun day in SWs.

Even if this game only achieved 10% of its goals, it would still be incredibly better than almost all other modern games. I'm not too worried tbh. Been following the development from the very beginning, and this has "quality" written all over it. It's easy to see the devs don't only want to create a profitable game, they want to create a legend.

A lot of people seem to be invested in this game. I hope they arent wasting all that money on blow or something.

I dont give a **** about scores. If i think I like a game, I'll buy it. The flop just makes SW's that much more enjoyable and for how much people have been bringing this game up and the amount of money it's raised, it'se setting itself up nicely. :P

I still dont know what the game is about either. "Space trading and combat simulator, first-person shooter"

I know, I'm just referring to the meta game. If the game is anything like Freelance, I'll probably like it. I'll have a new PC by 2015 as well, Although I'm guessing my current rig would play it well.

Geeze, people are sensitive. I had a gamepad and flightstick in the 90's. I'm sure jankorcrop is sad tho. :P

I hope the game doesn't flop though, it will cause a meltdown. :P

i wasn't being defensive..there is a huge misconception about PC gaming and gamepads. it would indeed cause a epic meltdown in the gaming community if games like star citizen and other crowdfunded games fail, but i dont expect them to fail. i do expect people to get overhyped to the point where they have unrealistic expectations for star citizen

would like to see any other game attempt to do half of what star citizen is set out to do. maybe then ill start taking microsoft and sony more seriously

this, for a small summary of what they are trying to do with this game

1. persistent online spaceships simulator.

2. it's has been said by CR himself that the game will attempt to have more simulations aspect than the good old spaceships shooters like Wing Commander, X-Wing, Freespace etc; for example Star Citizen will try to emulate radar system that loosely based on real modern military radar system that can be found in Falcon series etc rather than the usual all seeing sensory system usually found in spaceships shooter, then it will possibly feature optional spaceships complex start up system etc; in the end Star Citizen will be more in common with Strike Commander than Wing Commander/Freelancer as far as Chris Roberts' games being compared.

3. newtonian flight physics system, that more or less similar to those found in I-War series, with some sort of 'fly by wire control' off system you may flip a fighter 180 degree backward while still 'flying' at the previous direction, like the one you saw on BSG tv series for example; again unlike other good old spaceships shooters.

4. complex physics based ships system with customizations options.

5. AAA quality story driven single player campaign with branching story that rival AAA RPG.

6. complete support of pc hardware variety including input and output devices like 4K monitors, multi monitors, 21:9 monitors, Oculus Rift, HOTAS system, Track IR headtracking system, personal UI customization, etc

7. community feedback matters; unlike anything you can found on traditional AAA games.

as I have quoted before, this is not a simple game project designed for profits, this is more of a dream project.

Oh dear, granted pre-alpha I know, but the game chugs in that familiar cryengine 3 way on my ATI 6950 :P, need to start putting a "Star Citizen new PC fund" together.

Could it be overhyped? Perhaps. All that ambition could fall flat on its face.

But at the same time, there is a good reason the game is recieving a lot of hype. For starters it is a game in a rather underrepresented genre, not to mention the sandbox elements look very indepth, it is designed by a top tier game designer and the game is very ambitious.

It certainly looks a lot more interesting than any other AAA game that I can think of.

Personally this is the part that will make or break the game for me. If it can do this then all the hype will have been worth it.

I forgot to mention that there maybe future SP campaigns added although it may not be for free.

however anyone who haven't get interested in the game already and are currently considering must be aware that the game is primarily a SIM than arcade, so it's a niche game in a niche genre.

it's important to keep it in mind because if you are expecting a spaceships shooter game like commonly found in the genre you'll probably be in for a frustration.

Well, I would´t call space combat game a sim, as there is no such thing in reality.

yeah but so what do we call it, we lack the term to properly classify this, it's definitely not an arcade shooter like game... a complicated spaceships action adventure game? lol.
