With the amount of money they have and the 3 teams working on it they should of had it out by now, but instead they decided to take on another game, and are still taking money. So for me its a scam until it releases in full.

Yes, even though the Wiki words it as otherwise.

Infact, Squadron 42 was the main part, and Star Citizen (MMO) was a stretch goal....

But at the start it was all labelled under "Star Citizen" ... in reality I suppose on the main menu clicking "SQ42" just meant "Singleplayer Campaign" then "Star Citizen" for the MMO.

Kinda stupid on their part to separate them imo later on, obviously due to the scope increase being so high.

So does you have to pay for each "game"

You can get one cheaper, or for the standard price both.

Well then the only thing that's left is to wait for them to be released.

Lol at least it works and is released. Not even sure why you're comparing a game service to a tech demo.

Not sure why your whinging about a game that is in development to games that are released.

"Hurr durr God War 3 is terribad cause I caunt pluh it yut yuck yuck yuck."

"hurrr durr at least you can play the campaign of God of War 3, hurr durr but you can't play but a tech demo level of Flop citizen yuck yuck yuck pluh"

Ah yes, a corridor hack n lash where 90% of the effort is making the environments look pretty.

Totally comparable projects in timescales..

Are you seriously comparing a tech demo idea to a full release?

Why are you copy-pasting a question that doesn't even make sense following my statement?

Time to take a breath and re-think your spiel.

A success? At this point they can't even succeed in giving a release date.

Like Crackdown?

SC has been in production longer.

How do you know? It was announced in 2014 didn't mean the work was begin after the announcement. Probably the same time when Star Citizen was gone into production in 2013.

Crackdown has a tentative 2018 release date, where as SC doesn't have one.

And still don't have a release date while delayed multiple times. Oh and Crackdown is a run of the mill PS2 looking and performing game, such a shame MS couldn't get it out while SC is the most ambitious game to date.

MS didn't decide to do a "side" game to cover up the fact the original game should have been released by now, and to scam more money out of people.

Yup, they didn't. They actually cancelled their 'side' games. And SC was always meant to be two games, didn't know where you get your side game idea.

Crackdown doesn't have 3 teams working on the game.

Of course not. It's an open secret MS doesn't care about games or at least good games.

Crackdown doesn't have a budget of over 175 million.

See the above point.

Yeah its shit that Crackdown 3 hasn't released yet, but at least I didn't back it and have been waiting over 5yrs to get what I paid for LOL.

that shows your lack of faith in MS. Don't know about you but people have been hearing about Crackdown for 4 years now while nothing to show for it. So which is a bigger embarrassment an indie game or one backed by one of the wealthiest companies on earth?

This guy Chris Robert's could sell his pubes on Kickstart and these chumps would still support this game. It's a scam. Smoke and mirrors.

@GarGx1: So what you’re saying is this is less COD in space and more Rust in space. Punishing mechanics that drive players and money right out of the game...

Rust is cancer, it was NEVER a good game.

I think a better comparison would be "Arma in space mixed with Elite Dangerous with an open sandbox/economy/reputation system".

Or hell, if they can get it all working... MMO GTA in space... practically.... (But more realistic combat/sim like features... as apposed to arcadey nonsense".

I don't think many people understand the scope of this game. A new ship is finished for 3.1 called the Aegis Reclaimer:

  • A giant Salvaging ship.
  • 5 Floors
  • 150m long
  • wing/landing mechanics are huge and work properly.
  • Damage states (yea you can blow that thing apart and disable it
  • Interactive elements (each bit inside, you have to do the job of a salvager).
  • Interior damage states (burst pipes, alarms, fires etc)

The game is a space sim first and foremost. nothing on ANY DEVICE even comes close to what this game is trying to do. and that is why its now on $180 million despite being nothing more than a "Tech Demo".

Because it's a special kinda "Tech Demo". Its not a 10 hour game on a flashy engine in genres that are so ancient now they are just easy choices to get money out of people. This is a big ass risk. It is what Destiny was original "eluded to" before it turned into Halo meets Borerlands.... because those AAA developers could;t do it... or thier publishers didn't want the risk.

Yes this game might fail, but f*ck me you gotta respect the effort put into it, and that is just one ship!:

The Reclaimer is looking good and a lot bigger than I was expecting.. Boarding and capturing one of these is going to be interesting.

I highly doubt it, not because the game won't be fine, but the expectations get higher with the time passing by...to the point where most will be expecting what the game can't objectively deliver!!!

I hope i'll be wrong on this one, but that how i feel about it.

Squadron 42 - A single player cinematic, heavily story driven game that branches to different paths depending on your actions, decisions and mission out comes, i.e. a game of similar scope to the Wing Commander series.

Star Citizen - Online multiplayer Freelancer with co-op PvE and PvP, multiple career options that are only dictated by the ship you are currently using and all the usual MMO features such as fluctuating economies, player organisations (clans) and reputation systems.

That's it in a nutshell and anyone who has backed and doesn't know this hasn't done their research very well.

I do suspect that there are some people out there looking for CoD in space. Those people are in for a big surprise when their first PC is killed in a shootout and respawns a couple of thousand light years from the fight they were in, if they even respawn at all (there will be a perma-death mechanic of sorts in the game). However most backers I've spoken to know exactly what to expect.

Let's hope you are right this time, and that the people did their research...Not wanting this game to fail, in all honesty, and any game in general.

I hope you're right. Squadron 42 will likely release in the next few years, and probably be pretty awesome, but I have less confidence in Star Citizen proper.

Tired of hearing about this thing

Im rooting for the game to be amazing but I feel the same as you. Shit or get off the pot at this point

Yeah would like them (CIG) to disappear somewhere for a year and just wrap everything up.

Really, really looking forward to this game like no other; I believe it will change not just space sims, but gaming in general as new benchmark in open-world design, player choice, and technical capabilities.

But my god it seems to be suffering from feature creep. Just wish they'd take what they have now, which is substantial, and finish the game. We don't need any more more new ships.

But in reality people are still buying into it because they just want it to succeed ... and people are willing to buy what they are selling.

So yea "Scam" right.

I view this (and crowdfunding, early release) as an investment or gamble, not a scam. Nothing was or is guaranteed, all you can do is weigh your options, risks, and so forth and hope you made a good choice until it pays off.

A scam? I don't think so.

How? Other than Freelancer which was almost finished, and was eventually released (and still feels like a great game), which projects did he abandon?

Why the hell are they creating 2 different games? Jesus, this is a milk product if there ever was one.

Seriously, are you really comparing a Derek Smart "game" to Star Citizen?

I'm sure you know this but he's idiot narcissist that appointed himself the leader of the Star Citizen hate campaign due to his burning jealousy of Chris Roberts' past and present successes.

Haters can keep hating. No amount of salt will stop these two games form being GOAT.
