sadly the game was like #5 on Japan's Media Create charts, better than it deserved

Sad this game is not selling better. Gamers complain and complain about the same games coming out and here we have a very inventive game with depth and people shy away.
@Heirren: lol the "best game of all time" didnt resonate with gamers? Shock horror.
A star fox rail shooter with awkward mechanics is new now? Hardly.
Forced gimmick, short and looks dated. No surprise even if it was with the U. I wanted another Adventures type game or at least a hybrid
You realize that many Star Fox fans hated Adventures, right? Hell, even Rare devs involved hated it.
You do realize most people are naturally against change?
Star Fox fans wanted a Star Fox 64 2.0 which is what pretty much Star Fox Zero is.
A fully on foot Star Fox action adventure game was like what they weren't expecting.
@DocSanchez:
It's why people are so split on it. It's drastically different. The open segments are the best of any flight game,ever

And? Still didn't stop the fact that too many people resented the game because of it. I didn't, in fact I have it in my collection. But there were WAY better Zelda clones (just ask Ubisoft despite DNF'ing the sequel or, if rumors are true because apparenly Ubisoft never made any warnings like once believed, Bayonetta 2'ing it, the late Clover Studios and the late Eurocom) in that era.

Have played Crimson Skies?
People are split on Star Fox Zero because the controls are weird. Had it had an option in which you could play with traditional controls OR motion controls nobody would be complaining.
The Landmaster missions are clunky as hell.
Nothing Star Fox Zero does is truley amazing. There are better flight games out right now.

Bruh, I'm just letting people know why it was hated on.
Regardless of their being better Zelda clones, it was an interesting take on Fox Mccloud.
@brah4ever: even without motion controls people would still be complaining that its a full priced rail shooter in 2016
@DocSanchez:
Awkward to you, perhaps. However, for those willing to learn them, it opens up the genre immensely.

Pretty much all the reviews and buyer feedback (myself included) say the controls suck, so yeah.
Please do tell how these controls open up the genre "immensely"
@brah4ever: oh god the memories! what a class game. the second was also pretty dam solid.
MS: crimson skies.....get on that.
and yes thats what zero should have been (or like freespace). full price for an on rails shooter like star wing is unacceptable. the design is fine for a 20 or 30 quid game but not full whack.
This is beyond disappointing, I was so hyped for this game so yeah I'm genuinely upset it's doing so badly.
the reality is that star fox was cool in 1997 but that type of gameplay is dated as **** by modern standards

The critics and fans do not say the controls suck, they say they have a steep learning curve. With the controls you can fly toward your left and shoot your lasers to your right. Without the new innovative controls, you cant.
@iandizion713:
It alleviates the limits of the analog stick. Instead of reaching an end point as to where you can aim without turning the perspective, the controls in Starfox allow for a bit more freedom.
This is not a comparison to Ms/KB, but moreso what I mean to say up top. Let's say you've got a 7inch mouse pad area. There's a need for adjustments to recenter. In Starfox, this mouse pad area is opened up to where there isn't any need for adjustments from the player.
@FireEmblem_Man: I wouldnt worry about it, Miyamoto was only a supervisor on it. And its not even close to being the worst game hes ever supervised.
People didn't want to pay full price for an ugly N64 rehash with bad controls? Shocker :P
Giant Bomb's review was very instructive:
"Years of disappointing follow-ups and the overall progression of industry standards leads to Star Fox Zero having the impact of an HD rerelease rather than a full sequel. Being able to beat the game in 2-3 hours doesn't help, no matter how many branching paths or lackluster challenge missions are included. Even the moment-to-moment action doesn't have anywhere near the impact that it had almost two decades ago, as this limited style of gameplay feels dated in 2016."
Incredibly unambitious, dated and short games make up WAY too much of Nintendo's output.
even without motion controls people would still be complaining that its a full priced rail shooter in 2016
Are you saying they shouldn't? Even in the insular world of Nintendo, an extremely short, on rails Star Fox costing the same as Zelda, Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime or Xenoblade is freaking nuts. Even back in the N64 days when Star Fox was pretty cutting edge, we still only rented it for a weekend and experienced virtually everything it had to offer.
@locopatho: How the heck he beat the game in under 5 hours on first try is amazing.
It's certainly possible.
@LegatoSkyheart: O it is, but even as good as i am, itd take me a bunch of work to get under 3 hours. I havnt completed it yet, but i think Arcade Mode is a little over an hour.
