Star Ocean 4 GI Review

Same reason why Lems went craxy when Gears 2 got a 9.0 instead of a 9.5 here. It wasn't until reviews came in that cows' faith in KZ2 was renewed. Prior to that it was AA-AAA range (it switched based off the previews.) It's only common sense that people would be hype for a game now that it's getting mostly AAA reviews. And even then, it's still AAA hype. Don't let those Lunchbox threads fool you.

Well, there was a big whine fest in the main thread when the official review came in, especially after Resistance 2 got a matching score.

Naw, SO4 has "broken hype." And when I say that I mean, there was a lot of "I expect it to be 8.0-8.5, but i'll hype it A."

I think JRPGs are too often reviewed by people who don't like them. The last remnant for example is one of the best jrpgs I have played in a long time and yet it scored poorly with the major sites.

Lol, I remember that clearly. There were a number of people upset over that. Also, there are some folks upset about some KZ2 reviews. Mainly Edge and GI. Episode_Eve

Hopefully the pc version will provide this game with some much deserved recognition.

It could have gotten a 2.5 and I still wouldn't have cared

Hmmm, a little low at 7. The 2nd opinion is 7.75, but still, not the AAA JRPG some thought it would be.

They cut back because of the story, they just did not like it, so be it, it is still my 2ond most wanted JRPG by miles above any other

Lost Odyssey got very low scores too, but is one of my favourite JRPG's

Star Ocean has always been a A-AA franchise. I never have played it, but there must be something missing because they all look great, the gameplay looks great, but for some reason the games fall short of AAA. Still i'm sure the game is awesome for RPG fansCouth_

That's what held SO3 back. The combat was great, but the story wasn't so great.

Star Ocean stories are generally mediocre.

The only star ocean installment i enjoyed (and was greatly impressed) was 2/Second Story so I don't really get why people expect much of it to score high.nitekids2004

1. It's on 360

2. It's an RPG

3. It's by Square Enix

For the amazing gameplay ? Games are mainly about gameplay, story comes 2ond for me, a nice story is good to have though

BTW the story verdict is totally subjective, so that 7/10 maybe 10/10 for others

The fact that GI loved the gameplay and visuals, and the fact that the game looks so stunning, is enough to make it a 10/10 for me

Also i do not see how the story could be worst than FF12 and Oblivion stories, those had the single worst stories i have seen in a game

I could careless about a review for rpgs these days. Lost Odyssey, Last Remnant and The Witcher where all Amazing rpgs imo and they didnt score AAA or very well on gamespot, which i completely dissagree with.

Ill probably be picking up Star Ocean sometime soon.

Yeah, the hype is AA, Only the major 360 fanboys and fakeboys are hyping it AAA, and if we used them. Might as well hype Killzone 2 AAAAe because of the major PS3 fanboys/fakeboys.

Game list should not count toward AAA hype, because they are not all AAA hyped games, I also remembers when Star Ocean 4 was on the PS3 hyped games list. One of the RPGs to 'own' all the 360s. That along with Final Fantasy XIII.

hmmm IDK i really liked Lost Odyssey and that didn't get really high reviews. I think RPGs have just developed higher standards than other genres over time.Zero5000X

THat whole review was a joke. That spent half of it ranting about introduction portion and then basically went "Oh Yeah the other stuff was okay." I guess 2 Hour Introduction was > the rest of the 50+ hours of the game. :P

They're hyped RIGHT NOW because it's been getting mostly AAA reviews. Hype is still AAA and in the past it was AA-AAA.
