Although I would like to be wrong, this game will not re-invent the wheel. It is, however, going to tell us why the wheel is so awesome. That is all. Not the bashing you were expecting. But, for the fanboys, this is 100% speculation.

It's a Blizzard game, and when it comes to Blizzard games, they tend to meet or exceed the hype.

That, and I'm sure one of the main reasons why it has taken sooo long for this game to be announced is because Blizzard knew they hype would be massive. They prolly didn't want to announce anything until they KNEW it would meet expectations.

You can guarantee that Blizzard will put their passion into making SC 2. I Can't really recall them going half-*** on a game. Maybe Starcraft: Ghost but thats a different story.

1) LoZ: TP only flopped in a few places and was overall praised.

2) There's a big difference between a RTS and an Adventure game.

Thats exactly what I mean. Lets hope "they knew" holds true, because this game has the potential to surprise people with its quality in comparison to the original. Its a break it or make it situation, and Blizzard is more then a talented enough name to actually make it.

Do you realize the enormously daunting task that is following up Starcraft? I'm fairly certain Blizzard is the only developper in the planet capable of pulling it out right.

I agree. This doesn't seem so revolutionary. But it is evolutionary. The original Starcraft was great, and hopefully Blizz can keep the basics intact and expand as needed. This ain't gonna convert people into the genre folks.....

PS: your poll is hilarious

and i didnt compare the games, i used LoZ as an example on how sometimes times change...The same tricks get old sometimes, even if there polished. Of couse the game wont suck though, i mean, it is Blizzard after all.

Of course it's not going to reinvent the wheel. The forumla is already amazing. Fans will be more than overjoyed to get a new storyline, new graphics, and new units that do new things. That's what Starcraft II is.

I'm not avoiding the point, you're just ignoring mine.

1) as said, people may think that GS scores matters more here in GS but that varies from person to person. I personally don't follow that silly rule simply because going by one score is retarded. End of story.

2) Again, when it comes to a comeptitive game, "same" tends to be the right move. People who have played competitively with the original want to enter into familiar territory, not completely relearn everything and feel like the game is foreign to the player. This is completely different from a single player game where it can take more risks. Again, apples and oranges.

I know there's no way it'll live up to Starcraft1 but it will be a great game and I'm buying it no matter what. I just hope they alter the art style to less colorful and more realistic.

I'm not ignoring your point as well but it seems that we dont see eye to eye...but o well thats the point of opinion.

1) Thats nice  that you think that, but when i said SW i wasnt singling you out, im talking about the community as a whole, the main reviews we look at are at GS, it only makes sense. we are in a GS board.

 2) Your post doesnt justify your "apples and oranges" comment because for the last time im not comparing something, We are talking about the core essence of a game, its fun factor,  appeal of  wanting to play more, it varies from person to person, but like i said before i wasnt comparing anything.  I can say that LoZ wasnt re-invented the series nor is SC looking to do the same. So what does that mean? That SC might not be as AAA status as we might all like, look at LoZ which is my example not my comparision. It went through a similar situation.

Battle Realms did 90% of what Warcraft 3 much earlier. WC3 has almost nothing original about it. It just happens to be a much better game than Battle Realms.

Blizzard is the kinda of developer who will throw out the entire game and start over if they need too, Ibelieve that was at least partially done with the original starcraft.

Correct. After the first media released, the gaming world pretty much dismissed it as "orcs in space," so Blizzard scrapped it and started over. >_>

It would be interesting if everyone were to heavily criticize SC2, in order that Blizzard work even harder. It would probably hurt the game development, as it is indeed a bad idea, but it would at least be mildly entertaining.

I completely agree with that analysis. From the looks of it, they are by no means changing the Starcraft formula, but improving it for modern times. Especially considering Starcraft's fanbase, namely the tremendous following in Korea where they announced it. It wouldn't be very beneficial to them to completely re-invent Starcraft.

Better graphics, more/different units, and expanded storyline is all they really need because Starcraft was about as perfect as it could get imo.

Looking at my title, you might be offended. Let me heal you. This game will rock. But it may not be the total revolution and refinement people want in a sequel. The hype factor is terrifyingly high. Although I would like to be wrong, this game will not re-invent the wheel. It is, however, going to tell us why the wheel is so awesome. That is all. Not the bashing you were expecting.
Hadn't they died out after they revealed themselves to the Protoss and then nearly destroyed by the Zerg?
In terms of a playable race, I wouldn't care for the Xel'Naga much. In terms of story, it is pretty much a necessity after...
the secret mission in Brood War where Duran says he is working for some other "group" that is not the Protoss or the Zerg.
I wouldn't care if they are a playable race i just wanna see them :P. They are the main reason why the war started. Its only fair for blizzard to give us what the "ancient" race looks like.
