Well I've never even been to a LAN party nor do I ever want to go to one, so cool with me :P.LethalhazardYour missing out, LAN parties are great fun with friends

So I only have about two close friends right now, and that's how it's been all my life :S... 1v1 LAN isn't very fun :P.
That is one thing that is questionable. I'm pretty sure all the pro gamers in Korea play Starcraft on LAN for practice, and for tournaments.I'm not PC game savy but I was under the impression that Starcraft got popular BECAUSE of lan. Why would they remove such an important feature for people who had no intention of buying it to begin with?

Im not really seeing the issue. Whats the differene between LAN and a bunch of people in a room all joining the same game on Bnet hosted by someone else in that room? Its certainly not lag since ping is based off of distance and they'd only be several/dozens of feet apart.

it's a huge problem for internet cafes. They only buy 1 copy of a game and install them on all the computers, they don't buy multiple copies of the game.
Besides the fact that you have to have a internet connection running nothing really, but its kind of stupid to not have offline LAN capabilities. this is the year 2009, get with it. Same problem with Steam, if you dont update it will sometimes hang up on you if you want to go offline.Im not really seeing the issue. What if you like internet play and singleplayer?! :OIf SC2 doesn't have lan the game will fail

The difference is the internet, and many people don't want the internet in their background processes causing latency.Im not really seeing the issue. Isnt it strange that every single person on this site for, against, or neutral to this change has an Internet connection? I can certainly see a legitimate issue for Mr No Internet guy, but then, he wouldn't be able to post anything about it.

Thats a nonissue. I regularly game with my brother whos on the same network as me, about 15 feet away, through one IP, and we have about a 15 - 30 ms ping relative to each other.
Not even Koreans with their superhuman reflexes would feel that delay.

For someone like myself who games regularly on LANs, the difference is extremely noticble. Even on a high-def chi server where I'm getting 0 ping, I can still notice a difference between that and a regular LAN. When I LAN I take my ethernet cable out of my computer completely to stump any background processes that may be hampering my game. Not only that, but I hate getting on the internet on my LAN rig. I don't like the possibility of viruses getting on my lan computer.

We still play Starcraft on LAN just within our own house and a lot of other games.

And if you have to communicate with B.Net servers at the same time most people can kiss the 15-30 ms goodbye as it becomes 80-150ms or more.nothing can make up for this but a $10,000 hooker and another movie with keyano reeves and ice teaThey already said there is going too be something in Battle.net that will more than make up for this.

No, that 15 - 30 ms delay is what i get in L4D, Demigod, DoW2, and most other games. All 3 games talk to a master service for keeping stats. For games that dont have any tracking, i usually get around 5 - 15 ms.

well they really shouldn't be doing that in the first place.the main reason people game in internet cafes is for lan not for internet play. all internet cafes use the same copy of the game that's how it works. what you expect them to buy a unique copy of SC, WC3, CS plus a myriad of other games to support 200 computers? yeah right.

You are not gonna notice a difference was the said latency.. Even at 150 its negliable.. To me I think people are making a mountain out of an anthill.. Every one that has a lan now a days has a high speed internet.. Something where multiple peopel can play at once on the same connection with hardly any lag.. Infact probably no lag what so ever sense Blizzard games are amazing for latency optemization..[QUOTE="Trinners"]

Since when did I say that all the whiners are internet cafe owners? :|
Anyways Starcraft's success and longevity is based on it's LAN not on b.net.
I love LAN in Starcraft ;__; Fine! I'll stick with Company of Heroes  Juggernaut140
Ummm, there is no LAN option in Company of Heroes as well. What was the point in saying that?

150 ms is a second of delay. that's negligible?

Same problem with Steam, if you dont update it will sometimes hang up on you if you want to go offline. Uh, there's quite a difference in ping times actually. You have a lan party, all computers connect to a router (or switch) and you play with max speed and close to zero lag time. Once you have Battle.net involved, you suddenly have to have routers (not switches), and it must be connected to the internet, which in most cases will be oer one connection, so everyone will then share that single connection, and have to have their packets sent a longer distance, which means not only longer lag from the distance, but also from the sharing of the connection. This means bigger ping times, longer delays, and more chance of disconnection... way to go blizzard![QUOTE="Redmoonxl2"][QUOTE="Juggernaut140"]I love LAN in Starcraft ;__; Fine! Meh... good idea from a buisness perspective. Why should a lan center be able to milk unlimited computers off one 1 game purchase? How many lan parties today have a setup so crappy, that there isn't enough internet bandwidth to spread around?
The people effected, versus the hype behind this game renders this news rather insignificant.

since lan is the most popular way of playing SC this news is insignificant ok
This won't help combat piracy, not even the slightest bit. How sad. What devs don't realize is that CUSTOMERS have the power, not them. They can raise the prices, reduce features, whatever, but in the end, all customers have to do is NOT BUY THE GAME. Their stubborn attitude will only contribute to piracy, seeing as many will not want to waste their money on the game anymore...
