No. Playing shooters and strategy games with analogs is weird. Steam controller is meant to play Steam games, not Gears of War.
That has little bearing on the fact that it looks weird as hell.

this thing looks beyond ugly. Also whats with the one analog.
Perhaps tests proved that people preferred that axis of movement as a more resistive one.
Another impression from Engadget: http://www.engadget.com/2015/03/04/valve-steam-controller-final/?ncid=rss_truncated&utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=twitter
Basically, she says it feels good and it works, but she's trained with the triggers at the top and the analog stick on the bottom ont he right side of pad, so reversing this took getting used to.
Sounding great so far.
For old pc games (like Tomb Raider and Legacy Of Kain) it will be great.
Sadly: the very lazy publishers didn't even bother adding 360 pad support forcing the community to use third party software.

Those are old game though. But i agree, that's the point of this controller
I'm sure it's great and I'll probably end up getting it, but it looks like it came out when someone threw up.
Important snip from The Verge:
"Instead, its strength is in its versatility. Valve had precisely one non-controller game on display, and it was late-'90s shooter System Shock 2, which has a particularly weird mouse-and-keyboard interface; it's the kind of game where you equip a weapon by hitting one of a half-dozen hotkeys or physically dragging it onto your character. And, surprisingly, it was pretty decent. The right trackpad worked precisely as a mouse, and Valve has designed an impressively customizable control-mapping system; not only can you change the binding of any pad or button, you can control things like trackpad sensitivity, vibration intensity, and the inertia of a finger swipe. Valve will let you share custom binding systems, which solves a lot of the setup problems for any game with a substantive fan base."
Has expected, the full customization and community layout sharing is still here.
This is one of the best part of the Steam controller. No more specific layouts, you choose where you want eah action to mapped, like on a k/m
It's so unattractive looking. It might work great, but it's pretty butt ugly. If it sticks around though hopefully future models will look better.
At the very least get rid of the glossy surfaces and stick to a matted finish.
so it no longer looks like boobs
that's disappointing
loled 4 real
I would just use a PS4/3 or Xbox One controller.
It's so interesting because it's genuinely different, kind of. The way you'll use it is largely similar to how we use controllers with analogs now, but the way we interact with it is very different.
I'd be curious to give it a try. I struggle to imagine it feeling better than stationary analogs. The nice thing is that we could all just buy an Xbox 360/One controller instead (which is about as good as a controller has ever been).
Yeah... still no.
One analog stick... ON A CONTROLLER? And people say NINTENDO is behind.
The the circle on the right acts as the second analogue stick. It's more accurate than an analogue stick. They even played strategy games with it.

I can see it camera movement being much better with pads. However, early testers reported,a nd rightly so, that movement witf the left pad was abit off, so they added it the stick.
Now people can use analog movement, swipe movement on the left and wasd on the left clicks (pad) aswell.
It probably won't fit all games, but like you said, we can still use other controllers, and k/m, aswell anyway.
Really want to give this a try. As others have said it's butt ugly and the cheap-looking build quality is very concerning, but the idea of not aiming with an analog stick and that customization screen are compelling. Too bad this isn't something we likely won't be able to test at a gamestore like console controllers.
@R4gn4r0k: @inb4uall: Like i said, prototypes where clickable, so it stands that atleast the left is aswell in this final build.
Remember, that crossair is also for WASD in games, should you want. Many PC FPS don't have analog movement, so mapping it forward, backward, left, right is necessary, and that's where clicking comes in.
The only missing button from other controllers is the right analog, but since that's used mostly for camera controll, it won't be much fo an issue.
I think WASD controls are easily replaced by an analog stick.
The big thing that keeps M/KB games from working on controller is the precision of the mouse. Well, and the amount of keys on a keyboard too (controller games usually map multiple actions on one button)
The only thing I do not like about this controller at all is that it uses AA batteries. I mean common, what is this ? Xbox ?

I don't know. Looking at the pic above it seems you either disable or activate analog movement. Since wasd are 4 keybinds, i'm not sure if you can map analog directions to identify has each.
I have been wondering about it, but don't think it'll be possible. If it is, then it's pretty awesome.
Has for batteries, well true. But look at this way. It could have gone in a Wii u pad way, with a ton of active time, or a ds4 way, when it drains the battery in 6 hours. It'll probably be a rechargeable pack to buy anyway. I hope.

I just mean going from WASD to analog stick has never felt like taking a step back.
Whereas aiming a gun in an FPS with an analogue stick to mouse feels like a huge step back. Sniping with a analoge stick either sucks big time or sucks a bit and you get some aim assist, yay !
I just think they should've went rechargeable in the first place. In an ideal world all controllers would have the Wii U pro controllers insane battery life. Oh how I wish...
@deadline-zero0:
Rumble? No Rumble No Buy!!! Didn't like when six-axis didn't have rumble, it makes a big differnece and wish more PC games would support it, plus it would be nice if there were force feedback mice for gaming. Those things like that really add to the immersion, The light bar on ds4 does as well but lems and non PS owning fantards will bash it just to bash it, but it actually works great in many games!
Also what is up with the button layout on face buttons and shoulder buttons. They couldn't make their own naming scheme they had to copy 1:1 the Xbawks buttons. Both PS and WII and XB have different button names and labels... valve couldn't think of anything original in that department?
@deadline-zero0:
Why is there Double AA batteries ... It has a micro usb port on the damn controller, shit if you go that far might as well make the thing rechargable like the dual shock, but no.... uggh. So ass backwards on that regard..
So this is what valve has spent the last 8 years doing since half-life 2 episode 2..... WTF valve. It took you 8 years to make a controller and outsource portal and that dumb moba game.... ridiculous!! If it wasn't for steam you guys would of been out of business long ago...
Where the hell is half-life 3!!! Inquiring minds and fans want to know!!! Stop being hipster douches and give up the goods... Half-life 3 or bust!
