[QUOTE="moistsandwich"]Most of the time, Steam sales aren't that good. You can usually find the physical copies of these games for a little more elsewhere if you look hard enough. This weekend Borderlands is 50% off.... thats right $25. What a steal.... pick up the latest DLC "General Knoxx's Secret Armory" for $10... and you have ALOT of game to play through fora mere $35...
I'm not sorry that I bought it at full price... but for some of you who have been waiting for a price drop... NOW would be the time to jump on it.
Honestly... Live & PSN should have more deals, like Steam. If Steam can afford to do it... I'm sure MS & Sony can too.
I know MS already does have weekly deals... but they are almost always on stuff thats been out for 2 years already... and the savings arent as significant as they are on STeam.

That's the thing, if you look hard enbough you could possibly find the physical copies for a little more than Steam. However if you prefer DD (such as me) or just for convenience and savings, then Steam is excellent.
On top of that, you save a ridiculous amount at Christmas time on Steam, as the deals are crazy.
....Maybe because those games are download-only and in unlimited supply? What's there to get? They could even put discs for like a $1 and still make a profit(assuming they sold enough to atleast break even) on each game sold because DVDs cost a few cents.you want Live and psn to have super deep sales? I mean really I cant understand how valve or the companies that own the games are able to make any money when valve puts them under such deep sales.

Man i love borderlands, thats a great deal but...
whoever wanted to get it got it before(Atleast i think so) ,i actually got it on launch for 49$ =) and it was a retailer, great deal (PS3)
They already have full game downloads and some of them do go on sale. When's the last time you were on XBox Live or PSN? So they've already been doing this. They don't do it much for the newer games, but games that have been out for more then a year they do. I don't bother with STEAM because 1) I don't have enough memory 2) My system is old and wouldn't be able to handle most of these games. They would run like crap. I get all the games I want on my game consoles and don't have to worry about space, RAM or configurations.yea, that is an awesome deal.. i wish PS3 and 360 would start doing this

Yup.... I believe they order keys/licences from the dev/pub, and that's how many they can sell. In order to get more, they have to buy more.
That's nice, 50% off sounds great and all, but I still think it's a bit weak deal when the retail price ain't that much more. For e.g. amazon uk has it for £17, with delivery fees it might be a few nickels more in the end, but it also comes with the box and stuff.
Also, when the deal runs out it goes back to 50e, I'd struggle to find a retail version with that price tag. Love steam and their deals but the pricing is still not competitive enough for me to use it as my main game store.
Huh every game is available here in Eu as well as does every deal. Sure most of the games are doing the $1=1euro but that is up to the game publisher and not steam since is the same thing for retail stores as well here in Eu unfortunatelly In the end of the day Steam has some sweet deals ( although new games that are not on offer are more expensive that they should have been ) , its convinient ( sure you might find a better deal in a retail store but we drive 20,30,60,90 minutes looking for a better deal in a retail store consuming expensive gas while i can buy it on steam from my couch without wasting gas ) and it has a great library of games that far exceed any retail store On another topic my favorite DD service is impulse ( the do proper conversion of euro dollar and you dont need an external program to be running although alot of games are NA only i prefer impulse when a game is available in EU ) with gamersgate and Steam coming secondi hate steam, i am not using it in any way. Most of this deals are for NA anyways, i preffer to go to my local store and put my money in my own country.

[QUOTE="gregbmil"]If you get hacked then send in a support ticket. Thats how I got my account back a few times. I don't get hacked anymore on my new computer(my old one had a key logger.)Yeah, Steam is great till your account gets hacked, then your password is changed and you can never log in again. It happend to me twice, so I'm sticking to other methods to get PC games.
JangoWuzHere
I just don't want to deal with that stuff. I looked up keyloggers and they are so easy to get, anyone can do it.
I agree that Steam is awesome but PSN as some good deals on games and DLC as well. XBL does have some as well but I don't see as many sales.
I still can't get my head around the fact that they were selling Team Fortress 2 for $2.50 at one point. Man, Steam is awesome.

And buy things made in other country... awesome!
steam is good when they got sales otherwise i avoid it due to outlandish price. usually 50% steam discount equals a retail's store normal priceSamiRDuran
Well in Canada they pretty much the same as retails.
Steam is, without doubt to me, the single greatest thing about gaming today.
Buy tens of thousands of games, from your computer, at any time, for retail cost at most. Have all your games on one site, downloadable at any point. Have all your saved games synced to Steam, so no matter where you play you always have the save game. Its phenominal.
To the person who was getting hacked - you have a keylogger on your computer. Either you or your son got it from malware. I hate to say its your fault, but it is. One of you did something that was illegal at some point. HOWEVER, you can get around it.
1. Contact Steam and they will fix your account. Usually just takes a confirmed CD-Key of one of your games. Absolutely no reason to 'lose' $150.
2. Download Microsoft Security Essentials -http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/. It is a FANTASTIC virus scanner / malware detector that is completely free and offered by Microsoft to any confirmed copy of Windows.
I can only hope Xbox 720 / PS4 have Steam built in from the start. It is the way of the future, and damn if it isnt good.
Steam is wack, i have had 2 accounts shutdown on me for no reason at all and i have lost all my games so thank god PS3 and 360 are not like steam.
Yeah, my account was hacked one time, but I think my friend actually gave out my password to someone or was keylogged on his own pc using my account. I sent in a support ticket, gave them my name and info, and they got my account back within a week. Lesson learned, never give out my password to anyone. :PSteam is good, I remember getting hacked once, but I asked for a ticket even though the guy changed the email and pW. Steam support asked me for one of the key codes on one of my registered games on Steam and I got it back. :)

I agree, and also give Malware Bytes a try as well. That's even better for detecting malware and removing it.Steam is, without doubt to me, the single greatest thing about gaming today.

Sounds like another one thoses "stories" in the air...
I wish Steam could be more like retail.
Steam games debut at a 21.5% premium compared to retail. And that gap only grows as the retail price drops and Steam's doesn't. Before this deal Borderlands was 67% more expensive. €49.99. Hell, I remember Civ IV still having that price tag when I instead bought the Complete Edition for almost four times less money. It can get well and truly ridiculous like that.
