[QUOTE="BobHipJames"]Teuf, this point isn't even remotely valid.

Civ IV, the Doom series, Dawn of War, Company of Heroes, the Quake series, the COD series, the Hitman series, Age of Conan, ArmA, Assassin's Creed, Popcap Games, Beyond Good and Evil, Bioshock....BLOODRAYNE, Brothers in Arms, Bully, Cabela's, Call of Juarez...Jericho....those are just the notable games from the first 5 pages out of 40. The list goes on and on.

Crysis and Far Cry are on there, too...

I'd like you to find me a PC game that ISN'T ON STEAM. One. Released in the last 2 years.

agentfred

You only want one?  Easy.  Sins of a Solar Empire.

;)

Well, damn. I regret to inform you that isn't on Live either.

Halo 2, Neverwinter Nights 1 & 2, Mass Effect, Spore (what?!?), etc...

I'm sure I could list at least 100 titles that aren't on STEAM.

There are lots of games on LIVE that's not on steam, Forza 2, Perfect Dark Zero, Gears of War 2, Fable 2, Mass Effect, Banjo 3, Soul Calibur IV, Virtua Fighter IV, Rumble Rose XX, Saints Row 2, etc.., etc... LOTS.

And to REALLY drive the point home, I'd like you to find me a HL2 mod that isn't supported by Steam.

Halo 2, Neverwinter Nights 1 & 2, Mass Effect, Spore (what?!?), etc...

I'm sure I could list at least 100 titles that aren't on STEAM.

I'm sure I could list nearly 6 times that many that are.

To give you a clue: Rayman Raving Rabbids, Oddworld Abe's Odyssey, Onimusha, and Overlord are on Steam....

Comically old and decrepit games that aren't on your gaming platform of choice happen to have an appearance on Steam. It's just not a legitimate point. I used hyperbole to illustrate that.

The fact remains, there are more games NOT on Steam, then there are on Steam. With XBox Live, all XBox 360 games have some relationship with XBox Live. You've been owned, so just give up.

As it's been mentioned in this thread several times, very few games (pretty much only Valve games) make full use of the community features Steam offers. How many games have Steam achievements? How many games let you join a friend's game?

Meh, I don't care about achievements. And if you play with friends, chances are that he's playing on a dedicated server that's already on your favourites list.

Steam loses though when it comes to ubiquity. It would be fantastic if all PC games used it, but unfortunately they don't.Teufelhuhn

Steam alone isn't that great imo, tbh I don't really use it aside from Valve games and games that are only available through it like Audiosurf.

But Steam+Xfire is a tough combination to beat, they're fully compatible and offer pretty much every feature you could wish for.

Live is a whole another thing tho, it's a unified service that you pay for, it brings benefits like achievements in every game but it also sets limitations like no mods or any proper free content, they aren't really even comparable imo.

While I enjoy the unification that Live offers, it's just too restricted to be my favourite service. There's so much more Steam offers to me.

You can add any game to steam

All that does is add it to the game launcher.  I'm talking about having the full community features.

still works with the in game steam interface, can still chat to your friends in game, can still see you friends are in game

Well, to be fair, the Steamworks SDK was released only a short while ago. More and more games are beginning to use it. Lost Planet, World of Goo, Empire: Total War, Audiosurf, and NBA 2K9, to name a few.

Saints Row 2 is on Steam's 'Coming Soon' list (yeah, I'm nitpicking, but this is a pointless debate anyway - the two systems aren't really in competition).

Achievements are new to steam... Also its not like Steam countrols the publishers. Other companys use their own service like EA. LIvE all the games HAVE to have achievements. They are forced to adapt this stuff to the system itself. PC in an open platform. So theirs nothing holding it back. They can do whatever they want with the game.None of them are countrolled by a service unless they temselves own it.

Most of the PC online games have their own service thats built into them like COH.

but honestly I have no care for achievements and I still question why any of you 360 gamers would even "care" for them. Unless they unlock something like in the PC TF2's achivements were you can get extra weapeons then they are completely useless. They give the game no replay. All you are doing is getting these gamer points to brag to your friends. But thats my opinion I guess
