And if you don't have full internet access by this day of age you must be living in Uganda...so you shouldn't be playing games any way. You should buy food instead.
Funny you say this a few days ago there was a power cut but I thought I'll ride it out playing HL2 on my laptop, but because my wireless router had been turned off no HL2 for me. I like the Steam community but I hate having to be online to play single player games. Why can't I register them once online and then play them offline.
Steam is great for those with wire connections and desktop PCs, but not so much for laptop gamers.
PS I live in the UK and even though we are 1st world classified our broadband coverage is piss poor when compared to most other places.

you only need an internet connection for Steam the first time you start up a game.
True, but there is a bug that sometimes makes it impossible to play offline, it won't do it. A shame, but it's quite some time since it happened to me now : ) But I know people that still get's it...
Like I said earlier, Valve has already done more for PC Gaming than the sad PC Gaming Alliance ever will, if they really wanna improve PC gaming they will drop the Live crap and go with Steam. Every game nowadays should be up in Steam, I see no reason not to ..unless you have your own competing service of course.
