In early 2014 we see UK price drop. By the end of 2014 it will be sold $100 less everywhere. In 2015 the system will be sold for $250 and in 2016 completely discontinued. At least Windows 9 won't be running in 720p.

He can't get rid of the xbox division anyway if he controls the division the xbox is in now since a move like that has to be approved by MS's CEO.MS's ceo likes the xbox division so elop is kinda powerless if he controls that division.

It is an unknown right now. I guess you would have to look at his track record to see how well he does his job. His personal feelings towards Xbox should not influence how he does his job if he wants to keep it.

Well, Stephen Elop may be looking to offload the brand in the next few years. He definitely will be focused on making profit. This is a strange-ass choice to lead the Xbox brand.

The guy that wants to offload Xbox from M$ is put in charge of Xbox...

He isnt the CEO, he cant offload Xbox even if he wanted to. He is in charge of devices and services, which makes sense since they bought Nokia.

If he wants to keep his job, he'll make sure Xbox and Windows Phone are successes. Attempting to sell either would get him fired.

Correct and I never said he was CEO. He'll be working with the CEO though. He was put in charge of Xbox for a reason though, reason's we aren't privy too. There are other moves at at Mr. Elop's disposal as head of Xbox that I was hinting at as it was made clear by the OP Elop's not the CEO. He is in an advisory position to the CEO and his influence as head of Xbox is surely peculiar. I remember this guy making waves months ago.

In an effort to keep my post shorter than usual, it seems I was misunderstood.

It's clear, Elop has a job to do and as I said above, he will be centered on making profit for the Xbox Brand. What does making profit entail (w/Xbox) and what kinds of measures is Elop going to enforce? It's rhetorical. I'm not interested in vast speculation without at least watching the rest of this year play out under his direction.

I also said Elop was an odd choice. What Mr. Elop wants and what he is required to do as Xbox head can and may be two different things. What we have been informed on so far may not be all the news we want to hear. The CEO and M$ may have much bigger plans for the Xbox Brand and Mr. Elop would be aware of these plans, but we certainly would not be. All we can do is read what he's said, look at what he's done, and notice he's now the head of Xbox.

If he somehow manage to sells the xbox division to another company than people would have deal with the policy from the new owners which could be better or worse but hey I'm all ears if that happens.

Not like MS will lose much anyways.

Well there goes any hope for securing any future exclusives, or building up their own devs. Once again Microsoft will depend on third party software to carry their console, might be a problem for them since they'll have the worst versions of them.

You'd have to be a horrible human being to hate gaming so much so that you'd close a gaming division. Plus video game business is a vein of gold, you'd really have to be inept not to attempt to bite a huge chunk of it off.

That guy looks shady as hell. A great fit for MS head management.

Seriously though... that guy looks like he would sell his own child into slave labor for a new mousepad. lolLooks can be deceiving but I would be willing to bet this guy doesn't know a damn thing about gaming.

I mean really? lol... They could have at least picked someone who doesn't look like he was the guy who taught mike Tyson to chew ears off...scowlin' straight scowlin' lol.... too funny.

*Edit* I jut realized who this guy reminds me of... its SLUGWORTH... Bring me an everlasting Gobstopper!

What the fucking heck?! The guy has no ideas for the Xbox division except to get rid of it. It's like Republicans that hate government and say it's the problem and should be done away with, and people go electing them into office to make government incompetence a self fulfilling prophecy.

I am seriously perplexed at the amount of people that want a one console market. You trash the competition like it is a bad thing.

In a way I hope some of these geniuses get their wish. The ramifications will be interesting to say the least.

Publishers are already looking at going mobile. Many developers are already stating that making AAA titles is getting increasingly difficult and expensive. Mobile on the other hand is easy, effective, and the cost return is minimal. Enough publishers start switching and there will be no more games on consoles besides first party titles.

There is a reason a lot of analysists are predicting the death of console gaming. Calling consoles dinsosaurs and the like. The money is in mobile games and publishers know it. Each generation is getting more expensive to develop for, but the consumer wont have increased costs. You people will resist any attempt developers attempt to make more profits. Screaming that they are milking money from their customers.

The combined platform totals of the three systems is the potential for good multiplatform releases. The more games sold, even if its on a competing platform, is good for the industry. All the signs are there. I do not own an Xbox One, but I sure as hell hope it has success. Your idea that if Microsoft gets out someone will be there to replace them. I wouldn't be so sure. Anyone looking to get into the traditional console market would have to make their mind up that they are going to lose revenue right from the start. It isn't until you get a good install base that you start making money from the investments. Amazon might get into the games business, but look for it to be much like the Ouya or the like. Why do you think that Sony and Microsoft want a long console lifespan? Its because if they didn't they would be doing nothing more than losing money on these ventures.

No one is looking to get into the traditional console market. It is archaic. The returns do not show up into later in the platform. You have to spend a shit ton of money in R&D, and then make the money in the long term. GOD forbid you have a RROD. If a normal (non multibillion dollar company) had put out a Playstation 3, or had a 360 RROD issue, they would have went bankrupt.

Apple isn't going to get into the regular console business. No one is. Keep dreaming. You don't make enough money off of them. Apple is making more money off of games being on their phones then a damn console would make them.

Seriously, Sony has their backs against the wall and now is not the time to make these changes when your competitor is on life support.

Nintendo - flushing its console market down the toilet.

Sony - In so much red that things look bad.

Microsoft - Xbox lead by a vulture capitalist that doesn't even like the xbox division.

.... more na dmore games becoming pathetic mobile games.

But it seems to be going well..... Maybe certain divisions. But SCE is really dominating no holds bar. Also as far as backs against the wall, MS has already essentially cut the price of the one and is now giving away titanfall for free.... THAT's backs against the wall.
