Considering his track record, he's a horrible choice. He completely destroyed Nokia and he's stated in the past he'd sell off the Xbox division.

I'm not going to take part in the gleeful dancing but I agree that he certainly seems like an awful choice. XB1 has taken a battering so far and I don't see how you're improving morale by putting someone with his track record and what he's said in charge. Here's hoping we're all wrong and he turns things around rather than further messes.

@blue_hazy_basic: Honestly, don't want to be a debbie downer but hasn't Microsoft been losing a lot of money on the Xbox brand since they started? I don't see how they can think it's a good idea to continue with it moving forward if so. Either that or they need to drastically rethink their approach.

I want to welcome him to my family. If he sells or kills the Xbox brand....................I will hunt him down with a army of terminators. LOL.

Seriously, Sony has their backs against the wall and now is not the time to make these changes when your competitor is on life support.

Elop is a horrible choice after his "unique" performance at Nokia. I don't even know why he was even considered. But maybe Nokia were trojan-horsed after all :P

I think people are missing the point slightly. It's not about how this dude has intentions on killing the Xbox division but more how he's going to be running it. There's obvious points like that he wasn't put in charge of it just to kill it off but I would be cautious of how's he's going to handle it regardless.

But it seems to be going well..... Maybe certain divisions. But SCE is really dominating no holds bar. Also as far as backs against the wall, MS has already essentially cut the price of the one and is now giving away titanfall for free.... THAT's backs against the wall.

True OR it could be one of the greatest marketing moves since sending free samples of Tide in the mail. :)

Hahahaha, I think Tide and Titanfall have different impacts. I'm kinda bummed though. MS isn't releasing the leaked prototype. Just a plain old boring black Xbox one

@k2theswiss: Sony would spin off SCE before MS would dump the XBox brand.

Good point. Some people act like he's being put in there simply to run it into the ground. But one has to ask how he's going to handle it.

Time will tell.

So... peasants.

we have.....

Nintendo - flushing its console market down the toilet.

Sony - In so much red that things look bad.

Microsoft - Xbox lead by a vulture capitalist that doesn't even like the xbox division.

.... more na dmore games becoming pathetic mobile games.

...

Re-roll PC now, save yourself the tears.

That's what I have been saying all along that it's console gaming that is dying.

They've actually been making huge amounts on the xbox brand if you discard the initial costs of the xbox entry and 360 RROD fiasco. People on here can't distinguish between write offs in the past and how the division is doing now. Not only that but lots of the "losses" attributed to the xbox brand are really from other products like the zune and the countless other missteps MS has made that are in the same division.

So the argument on SW is MS should discard a profitable brand because a decade ago it lost lost of money.

Elop takes over Xbox division, terminates Xbox, terminates his new position and is now jobless. Somehow a cows wet dream is very different from the Budapest I remember.

Dude is going to destroy the xbox brand I bet, like he did with Nokia.

There is also a conspiracy theory that he was sent to Nokia to intentionally destroy it, he might as well be the best flop CEO to hire.

This situation is bringing back those nightmare stories about consoles being dinosaurs again. It does not even help when you have news of Irrational Games going smokes, then Santa Monica too. Honestly it is getting difficult to swallow the situation in the games industry at the moment
