This generation of gaming has been "awesome" or "teh suxxors" depending on who you talk to. How to do you feel about the direction of gaming and will you continue gaming to next gen and beyond or hanging up the controller?

Edit: I appreciate all the comments, espcially to those that want to get into creating videogames. As long as you have the passion to do so, there will always be a reason to play even after a long hiatus.:)

Depends on how busy I get with school, work and women. I've finally come to realize that gaming is nothing but a hobby and the rest of my life is much more of a priority right now.

Probably won't be gaming next generation. Seeing the way things are headed, I don't know if I'll be doing much except for eating dirt while insects feast on me.

Gaming should always be a hobby. It's like movies or music, or any other form of entertainment. The problem is, some people become addicted, then they feel the need to "kick the habit", thus they just give it up.

Oh, it will still be a hobby, as with reading and music, but the amount of time and money I invest in it will become drastically different from what I put into it in 2008 (which was well over $1500, most likely closer to $2000). When I do get involved with a woman, I highly doubt I will have any time to myself between her, work and school... which of course is never a bad thing.

Oh, you'll find time. Most likely, you and your future significant other will have different schedules, therefore always leading to some downtime here and there. I know that's how it works for me. Plus, it's never good to spend every moment together, because it's nice to keep things fresh in the beginning.

Of course, but remember, this is coming from someone who spends several hours a day either gaming or spending time on gaming related websites. The drastic drop will basically feel like I have "given it up." Plus, I'd like to start reading more in my spare time... I actually prefer reading to games but since a couple of my courses early last year had me reading 300-400 pages a week, it kind of killed it for me for a little while.

I still got a ton of gaming in me, especially because I'm studying Computer Science and taking a course on game design, and the rest of the courses I'm taking revolve around that, like calculus and stuff. I have a whole ton of cool ideas for games, so I don't expect to give it up any time soon. Actually, I think I might be doing this forever if all goes well, as I hope to be a game designer. Its my past, future, and present. I was born to play games. Okay, maybe its not that dramatic, but I'm almost twenty, have a girlfriend, am in college, and I still game a ton. So I see no point in abandoning something I love.

I'll still be gaming, but maybe a lot less. I'm really disappointed in the direction this gen's taken. This gen feels like all flash no substance. I'm tired of shooters. I'm tired of multiplats. Im tired of online, DLC, and every game being a sequel. And so far those sequels have been worse than their last gen predecessors, just prettier (DMC4, SC4, DW6, R&C, GTA, ES, MGS, Banjo, Fallout, NG, etc.) And the 1 system that could potentially have none of those problems (the wii) had only 3 games worth playing last year, 2 of which I got (NMH, SSBB) one I didn't (Mario Kart).

It depends. Games keep trying harder and harder every gen to be movies. I don't mind cinimatics in games, but it's getting to a point in some cases where you just push a single button every five/ten minutes. Game content is being sacrificed in favor of long cut scenes and presentation.

At this rate next gen games will be about an hour long with next to no gameplay and look exactly like Disney and Pixar. I'll probably do like the Japanese and mainly stick with handhelds in the future.

Depends on the direction the companies take next gen, if everyone becomes a wii clone and good PC games dry up them I'm out. I can't see that happening though, ive had a blast this gen. the underground and indie games have really delivered.

I'm 27 and I still play games from the old gens, so i doubt I will stop playing next gen.

I guess it just depends if I have the money to purchase a next gen system.

RL gets more expensive everyday.

Am i ever going to stop watching movies or listening to music? No. Then why should i stop gaming? Gaming is one of my hobbies.

I'll defiantly be gaming less because of school and stuff, but i'm never going to stop gaming unless i lose interest. I haven't completely lost interest. I just don't think i'll be buying any consoles next gen(too expensive), i'll stick to my PC, and maybe a handheld.

i would like to continue gaming after this gen but just dont know if i will. each new generation is supposed to bring revolutions to gaming and i dont see it happening next gen. Graphically games wont get thatmuch better. next gen playstion / xbox will probally have the ability to make games better looking than crysis but with the same ol gameplay we've had since the PSone era. If that is the way games go next gen then ill probally hang my controllers up

My interest in gaming has significantly declined from earlier on this generation. I just don't have the "urge" to play anymore. Certain games which I would have definitely bought in the fall have lost their appeal. I actually sold my PS3 yesterday, that's how far my interest level has fallen.

I imagine I'll still be gaming next generation, but I will probably just own one console.
