This is kind of a minor dig, but one I find hilarious. Everyone loved the PS4 didn't they? They could put it on top of their clothes in their carryon bag when going to a tournament.

Now with the PS5 that luxury is over. Easily the worst system design of all time. Worse than the PS3 grill. XBOX Series X? It can slip into almost any medium sized bag and doesn't need to intrude a space.

I'm a frequent flyer and I've seen some stupid shit happen already with PS5.

Neither system is designed to be put in a bag and taken on the go.

I feel like such a small fraction of people actually travel with their consoles for tournaments that it's a total non-factor for majority of consumers. And those that do travel probably won't mind invest a little bit into a dedicated carrying case/bag to protect their $500+ console.

My Series X fits right into my duffle bag. PS5 wants to pop from the seams. Horrible design and approach.

I mean, if anyone's going to an EVO/gaming tournaments, wouldn't they already have consoles for that and not bring your own console? I'll be honest, I don't even remember anyone doing such a thing and you would think the tournaments would already have consoles for such an event. In schools, yes we took our consoles.

@davillain: In the FGC people bring their consoles to practice and play with friends at events. If they make it to Top 16 or Top 8 they are typically staying more than one night. So yeah, it's fairly common within our realm.

Sadly, players are opting to just bring PS4s. Unfortunately, the PS4 can't even run DOA6 at a proper 60 fps.

@omegamaster: now model that next to the average size human, and you will see that it's not a briefcase but a suitcase, possibly even a shipping container

I've said it a thousand times, but I would love if Sony and Microsoft would put way more effort into LAN functionality. Local gaming with buddies, and the lowest latency possible can be a blast. But until they create a LAN subscription, why would they bother.

Everyone loved the PS4? Nope. My least favorite Playstation that I've owned. Still have no interest in getting a PS5.

DOA6 doesn't really get very many entries in tournaments though lol.
We'll be fine until the next Tekken releases, or SF6. Then we will have to come up with some way to transport or borrow tournament hardware for casual matches.

@mazuiface:Up until COVID hit DOA was actually doing really well for DOA. DOA5 was definitely the pinnacle. Though the DOA6 World Championship was the biggest paying cup at the time without being at EVO. The only people that hamper on DOA are SJWs and Tekken clout chasers.

Remember Mr. Wizard? The child rapist that said DOA6 was taken off air in Japan because of their core values?

For instance, you saying "We'll be fine" does not include myself. I couldn't give a donkey's swinging dick about Tekken or SF6. I want a fighter that pushes the boundaries of a system, and DOA and MK serve in that department every time. Whereas Tekken and yes, SF6 are very low graphical looking games IMO.

So, I'm just telling you there is far more to the FGC than Tekken and SF6. I thought your comment was ignorant and arrogant as well.

And to the person that included the carrying case. It's not an argument solved. It's an added expense each time you fly. My carry on - over the shoulder bag has my laptop in it.

The point of this topic is that PS5 is over-sized and under-designed. The Series X is far more forgivable anywhere where you may choose to take it.

The PS5 design is horrible. The console is too big, the shape is too warped, the side plates stick out too much at the top, and the stand is mandatory if you want it to sit horizontal. Sony really need to make a slimline version of this thing. At least Xbox Series consoles have simplistic, non-warped shapes.

Hate the design of the ps5, no idea why we are still going with this bad design in 2022… that being said, why on earth would I bring my ps5 anywhere??? I mean except the 0,000001% of the gamers who attend tournaments I am pretty sure this is a non issue..

At least the PS5 has character, look at the ouya or Xbox series S.

@vgmkyle:

When my gaming laptop didn't fit in my bag I took with me on flights all over the world wanna know what I did? I bought a bigger bag that went over my shoulder, expanded, and had plenty of space for my carry on stuff (bathroom kit, clothes, ect) that I've used as a carry on ever since.

Sure you can whine about the added cost of having to buy another bag I suppose but if we're splitting hairs that much might as well tally up all the costs including gas to get the thing, electricity to run it, online subscriptions, caloric intake so you can have energy to focus and play, educational costs for your job you needed to earn the money to buy the thing, I'm sure by now you see where I'm going with this.

The whole point of this thread is nitpicky as hell. Neither console is designed to be taken on the go. Doesn't matter if you have a bag that works great, end of the day these are home consoles, not portable machines. It's like buying an extended cab dual wheel truck and then complaining you can't fit in a compact spot.

Series X weighs nearly 10lbs for ****'s sake. No handle either. At least the Gamecube had a handle.

I'm sure Stalin had character too, life of the party and all that. :-P

Series S still looks pretty good. Size is an important factor. So the Series S looks good for that size. The PS5 isn't horrible, in concept, but at that size it looks like ass. If Sony keeps the same design on the slim version, it'll look pretty dope.

The purple GameCube was just the colour that made it look like a "my first console" toy. But the black one looked pretty cool. I used to think the Panasonic Q looked awesome, but now I saw more pictures of it, it's just really chunky. It looks beautiful in pro photos, but in normal photos it's a lot bigger than you think.

what a bunch of weak crybabies.

I fly to LANs all the time with my desktop tower. which is 18x11x18. Nice handle on it, most people mistake it for a suitcase when it stickered up.

@vgmkyle: Seriously calm down. You said it yourself that it's a minor dig, but you really are so upset about something that hasn't bothered anyone. We used to haul big ass MAS sticks to Marvel tournaments back in the day, and those definitely required an extra bag. Now people still haul arcade sticks around. The one being ignorant and arrogant here is you.

"I want a fighter that pushes the boundaries of a system" what a weird, superficial reason to pick a fighting game - and one that has nothing do with with how the games actually play themselves. It's like this post was fueled by fanboy vitriol.

Everyone is allowed to have their favorite games, sure, but some amazing games are being left out that have nothing to do with graphics - Virtua Fighter 5 Ultimate and Samsho are some great examples of this.

The argument is the PS5 is too big and for no reason at all. Look at the design of the stupid thing and tell me it was a good idea.

I saw that someone complained about the Xbox ONE Series X being 10 pounds. Who cares? I can fit it in my duffle bag.

@Nonstop-Madness said:

Go to Combo Breaker. No serious person should be taking PS4s to tournaments, but it still happens despite fighting games not running at 60fps on that dumb and deplorable machine.

Yeah, Sony bought EVO and that was an unfortunate purchase that shouldn't have been allowed.
