i've played through the game entirely. i'd give it a 7/10. its NOT for everyone. cows seem to think anyone can pick up this game and enjoy it. this is not true. the game's story is convoluted and silly. it appeals to fans of the series but try making someone else play it and they will die of boredom.

oh and mgs4 only scored AAAAE here, most reviewers have scored halo 3 and gears 1 higher. i know this is gamespot but im just saying, this game is not all that godly when you look at the big picture.

I find it hilarious how people (generally lemmings) say that MGS4 doesn't deserve a 10, when it's quite clear that they have never finished the game. Some use the "I played it at a friends house" arguement, but that's just stupid.

I've not followed the MGS series, but I bought MGS4 and I can say it is TOTALLY deserving of a 10. It's not overrated, and it's not a movie. You get plenty of game play and plenty of cutscenes.

I've played Bioshock, Gears of War, Mass Effect, Crysis, Super Mario Galaxy, Grand Theft Auto IV, and I can promise you: MGS4 trumps the lot.

In fact, the whole: "4 AAA's > 1 AAAA" is total baloney. Your telling me that Forza and PDZ is as good as MGS4? I doubt it. Just look at how game ratings depreciate through time. GeoW was 9.6 on 360 and a 9.0 on PC. 360's AAAE's are probably just AA's now.

It doesn't deserve a 10 and neither did GTA IV. That's a fact. I know people who have completed the game twice and also say it didn't deserve a 10 score. Most people say somewhere between 9.3-9.6 would have been adequate. It's still a "AAA" title, but definitely not a 10. The game is not perfect by any means. SMG probably has less flaws then MGS IV.

Cows say every XBox 360 game is overrated, so nothing has even changed on that. Mass Effect, Bioshock, Halo 3, Forza 2 were all overrated in the Cows eyes. :roll: So yes, MGS4 is overrated. Should have never gotten a 10, definitely not from Gamespot who give other great games low scores.

And I don't think you can say that it trumps games like Crysis, SMG, Gears etc because they are totally different games

One is Tactical Espionage Action (Don't think that counts as a genre but OK :P) and the others are FPS games and platformers.

Hell no I would not agree it is the best game this gen, not even close, and I really like it. The first time I played I was in love with it. But after that there is so little game-play you really can't get any more out of it.

Take out all the cut scenes and the game is maybe five hours long, maybe.

b) cast judgement on the game without playing it fully. You don't really need to play the full game to cast judgement, I would say they need to at least give it a chance.

Exactly. No difference then Halo 3. How many cows screamed it was overrated and the game sucked, etc.., etc..? That's their opinion. Other people thought the game was excellent and deserved the scores it got. Same thing with MGS4. Not everyone is going to believe the hype and think MGS4 is a perfect game. There are many people who have played through the game and didn't think it was anything special.

PS3 doesn't have any flops, didn't you get the memo? Only 360 games, that have little or no hype, are flops and magically the same rules don't apply to PS3...

my main problem with MGS4 is that it essentially has 2 good acts and the rest are meh. Besides that it's a pretty damn short game. On my 2nd playthough i beat it in about 6 hours (i think).

(the acts are shadow moses and the middle east btw).

Still one of the best games this gen. But Halo 3 is the most hated game on this forum. It has less flaws than MGS4 really. And I'm still playing Halo 3 that got released a year ago. Im done with MGS4 (although i play it once in a while)

It took me 3 hours to beat without watching any of the videos (2nd play through). You do the math...that's a short game. MP is very overrated too IMO. Far from a 10 in my book. Puckhog04

IU not hyped? Too Human not hyped? amoung other Jrpg's that weren't hyped for the 360? And the question is why is Gamespots review system brought into question over one game for the ps3? Most cows know not to trust them and I wonder why lol. And most cows were as surprised as any lemming about the score mgs4 got from here. But to think that mgs4 only got a 10 from gamespot is just crazy. Really just about any respectable gaming site gave the game a 10, actually I seen somwhere that there was a total of 108 sites that gave it a 10. Some them don't count on most sights but none the less there was 108 that did give it a 10.

And if anyone in here actually thinks gears deserves a 9.6 then Mgs4 definitly deserves a 10. Also most of yall complaints are the cutscenes. I finished the game the first time through with 24 hours of game time. There is supposed to be 10hours of cutscenes, so that is a total of 14 hours I played the game. So I think the balance was right on. And also most of you that complain more than likely played the game on the easiest level lol. And so you could run right through and get to the next cutscene and felt cheated of gameplay lol.

Also anyone that thinks the game has no replay value, has no imagination at. There is plenty of ways to complete the game and plenty of ways to go and acheive things within the game. Try to get everyone dog tags is a start for you lol.

Yes it does suck that if you want to bounce around a bit in the game the loads do take away that experience but none the less if you wanted to do that to begin with then SOMETHING got you to want to do that, maybe a great game? And also stealth is fully implented and balls to the wall action can also be done. If you aren't patient enough to use stealth, don't blame the game but yourself. I hid in the grass for a about 10 mins. just to learn soldiers routines so I could sneak by (they do change up alot actually lol).

Also I know of 2 people that have never played the series and came away understanding it and loving every minute of it. One even has played it like 6 times now lol. Finally getting the stealth suite lol.

P.S. The official xbox magizine gave mgs4 a 9.9. Minus a fraction of a point for it not being on the 360 lol.

108 sites gave MGS 4 a 10? I'd love to see where you're getting this information from because on Gamerankings, only 23 of 71 sites gave it a perfect score.

It may very well be a 10 to fans of the series, but it doesn't appeal to as wide of a range of gamers as many other games, it shouldn't get a 10 while appealing to such a narrow audience.
