I like to stream my videos from my computer. I have a lot of files cause I hate keeping DVD discs. On my 360 I can watch videos with no problem at all especially after the upgrade a year ago which let you watch wmv and other formats such as avi. But on the Playstation 3 streaming videos suck. PS3 works best with Avi & divx but with 'CERTAIN' wmv and xvid files it is a nightmare. Even though they said that with the upgrade in firmware it was suppose to allow wmv. And don't give me that 'ALL YOU GOT TO DO IS ACTIVATE WMA. IN THE PANEL' mess! It still does not work right. All I get is a code and a statement that it is not recognized. This is frustrating especially considering how much the PS3 cost. No i DON't want to copy files to the Ps3 harddrive. No I don't want to use Tversity! Which still sucks. PS3 has 'file size limitations for video playback' come on! Whats up with that?! I wish someone would have told me that before I bought this thing.

I must say that if 360 had licked these hardware issues that this whole Next generation console contest would have been over with. Not only does the 360 best the ps3 in software but absolutely trashes sony with the entertainment features on the 360 and that is not even including the almighty xbox live. If any one knows of a way to make ALL of the video content but especially wmv work on the PS3 please do not hesitate to tell me. Thank Goodness that I didn't get rid of my Xbox 360.

I don't work for Sony dammit! I didn't pay all that cash to have to re-code my whole library of movies because Sony was too short sited to build a decent feature into there console.

All the good converting software costs.

On freeware it takes ages and sucks quality-wise.

why would you need a 360 and a ps3 to stream videos for you? and why is it so important, just sounds like a fanboy rant to me and a pointless one at that

I already did, I converted the Full Dragon Ball anime (around 400 episodes) and Gundam Z, ZZ, Gundam, Samurai 7, Full Metal Alchemist, Persona Trinity Soul, Shawn of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, Burn Up Excess and other series.

With the simple utility that comes with DivX called DivX Converter, you can put all the files you want at once and let the programm do the rest. Took me 16 hours but I converted over 600 files.

Yes, because duplicating gigabyte+ sized files you already have on your pc on your gaming system is teh awesom! I guess you're already used to 20 minute game installs on your PS3, who cares if you have to wait 20 minutes and waste a couple gigs of hard drive space every time you want to watch a movie on it?

External hard drive. We can use those. You know, the cheap ones you don't have to buy from MS? Oh, you don't? Poor Willie

You could also use an external HDD, thats what I use, so that I can take them where I need.

Tversity works flawless for me. You're doing something wrong.

Tversity converts videos on-the-fly from any file playable to formats Ps3 and 360 can play. No need for duplicate files.

Tversity works like crap with wmv on PS3. Stop frontin. And I am no fanboy of no one. I just want the best for what I pay for. It wasn't me that said these features were in the consoles - MS & Sony added these features. I just pointed out the defects in one console's performance vs another. As for buying external hard drives, using 3rd party programs and such whats the point? I only pointed out that the Xbox 360 just does it better - and it does as far as streaming video content.

The truth is I bought a video game console to play video games. Don't get it twisted with those satirical comments. But if I can do more then why shouldn't I? Some folk act as if you should just do ONE thing with your MULTIPURPOSE console.

I find more movies play on 360 than on ps3 that i download from the net. Like maybe 1/2 will play on ps3 whereas all will play on 360. And the ps3 is supposed to be the superior "multimedia device"

On paper it is. In practice, more people end up using the 360 for that sort of thing.

Does the 360 support mkv's? That seems to be the only thing I can't play (dual audio anime) other than wmv's (which I don't have cause they suck.) Haven't bothered to figure out demuxing yet, and tversity isn't really an option because I move my ps3 around alot.

It doesn't bother trying to play .mkv files via WMP, but if you rename the .mkv to .avi container, it can generally play them. Though dual audio, I'm not sure honestly.. I'll see if I can find something to give it a try.

Epic fail.

I've been watching 720P and 1080P films for a year now via TVersity.

Needless to say it's impossible to do so on 360, right? I have hardly had any issues with watching

any formats on ps3. You just dont know what ur doing.

the ppl here are confused on the definition of a game console. First 360 fanboys argue that ps3 is a blu ray player, a home entertainment system etc etc. Now their complaining it can't stream videos and how the 360 can do it better. Stick to one argument plz?

Btw, why don't you just watch the movies on ur computer.

The DivX Converter worked for me, and it still retained the dual audio files.

You really need to check that 'You don't know what your doing' mess. I have been streaming video off the 360 for 2 years with not so much as a hiccup.' PS3 & Tversity BLOWS when it comes to WMV. If you got some special receipe for making ALL WMV files work I wish you would stop your short sighted comments and get down to explaining what you do that is different. I speak English and I can read the instructions like everyone else and I have the technological capability to build and program pc's so I think I can push a button or too also. So following your instructions won't be too much of a problem.

Uh... okay.
ChrnoTrigger

The same people who brought it to be used for as a Blu-Ray player?

People like me who believed Sony when they touted it as the ULTIMATE multi-media entertainment system.

Stupid people.
