street fighter ripped off mortal kombats combos, the first/second street fighter games had no combos.

mortal kombat will always be the better fighting game, street fighters for noobs.

SolidTy

SF2, which Mortal Kombat ripped off years later, had combos, lol.
SF1 had combos, but I don't need to go there, because SF2 did it first, lol.

FIREBALL-****TYPE motions you see in games, Quarter Circle Back, QCF...ALL BECAUSE OF SF.

Konami (Castlevania), Sega (Virtua Fighter), Namco (Tekken, Soul Calibur), Midway (Mortal Kombat) and many other developers owe SF.

Nope that's false, street fighter ripped off mortal kombat, street fighter never told you hit count untill mk did.

I remember back in the day lol arcades in malls i used to go into them when i was a kid, but you'd see crowds of people around mortal kombat machines and nobody around street fighter.

was very funny, mortal kombat was the definitive fighter.

banbanbanban
Mortal Kombat got a lot of attention due to violence.

lol i remember playing street fighter at burgerking back in the day, i used to rent it for super nintendo also.

but yes, the game's ripped off double dragon, except you just fight 1 dude instead of many lol.

this game does suck though, capcom is a crappy developer one of the most overrated some of their games are alright, but they havent evolved with the times, still recycling gameplay from 20 years ago.

banbanbanban

how can two games that came out the same time rip-off one another. DD and SF both came out 1987, if I'm not mistaken

no

Street Fighter http://www.arcade-history.com/?n=street-fighter&page=detail&id=2647 Double Dragon http://www.arcade-history.com/?n=double-dragon&page=detail&id=676 happy? both august 1987.

So, they were still combos in SF. MK added a calculator on screen, and it's awesome now. I can count, thanks.

Funny, Boon and Tobias (Creators of MK) even said in interviews that MIDWAY wanted them to capitalize on the Street FIGHTER Craze, and rush our a quick fighter using Pit Fighter Technology. The did what Midway wanted, and MK, the SF clone but bloody, was born. lol.

While I understand your concern, Ken has been, and will always be my favorite character(along with Chun-Li). But you don't have to worry since I'm playing it on PS3.

oh yea, now i remember correctly, primal rage was first game to tell you ur hit count on the combo you just did, then killer instinct, then mortal kombat 3, then street fighter.

Everyone ripped off mortal kombats fatalitys/stage fatalitys well tried to back in the day.

Couldnt agree with you more TC. I played about 20 matches today and I got to 9 victories because I was pwning the 'KEN' noobs. Then on my unlucky try at my 10 straight win I got dominated by an asian player who was Vega. Streetfighter is awesome online.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3qAPbXNq0dc

That's the original release, that's the game speed i remember that's not remade crap like that one dude posted.

dude I dont know what you are talking about, remake/original/ or whatever. all I can say is that, be it the arcade or console version or original or remake, Street Fighter had a hit counter before MK. do your research. also, you have not commented on the link I provided about SF and DD, they both came out the same time, so how did SF rip-off DD?

I bought the game with my own hard earned money, therefore I play as the character I like, not the character someone else wants me to be, by the way I play as Ryu and have done since the day I first played street fighter!

Edit: Ryu for Ranked, Anyone else for player. As I'm best with Ryu.

quite possibly the best thread system wars has ever seen? i think it just might be!

I couldn't agree more, at least on the 360 version there is an endless ssea of ken users in ranked games(i've noticed some people branch out more in player matches... but maybe i've just been lucky here?). Anyways, i've never been one to follow SF very well, so i don't know the tiers and all that.. but is Ken a top tier fighter or something? Is he broken? Why do people want to use him so much?

You're totally right about people trying to psych you out by cycling through other characters.. it's so stupid. I've also seen quite a few guys who'll highlight someone original like rufus and in the last 3 seconds run over to ken. What do they think they're doing?

I'm a Cammy user and i find fighting so many kens to be a mixed bag. The obvious new ones i can easily handle, but i'm finding that only a few slip ups on my part lead to some massive damage when i play against half decent kens. Does Cammy just suck, am i doing something wrong, or is ken really good? I know i've got alot to learn still, but i find myself having better matches against other characters.. well, the ones i've fought.

Stop complaining. Ken is not even a top tier character.

Also I don't see that many Ken players online on PSN. Maybe the 360 has a lot of noob SF players.

Anyways, I'd much prefer fighting Ken than Akuma. Now that is fireball fest.

Wow, we have a lot of angry Ken players in here. Read my original post again, I have no problem with Ken players who know what they're doing and can actually provide a challenging and decent match online. The problem though, is that this isn't the case. Skilled Ken players are few and far between, mainly because of the massive amount of horrible players who immediately look at tier lists, scout out what other people are playing, and then follow the pack. If you know how to use your moves well, and you can properly play Ken, I'm going to enjoy the match I have with you. But if you think that a lucky hadouken and then crouching over me while spamming punches, or immediately shoryuken up every single time you fall down, as I block it each time will win you the match, then you shouldn't even bother getting online. You make the play experience feel cheap for new players, and you just annoy more seasoned players with your repetitive, predictable attacks.

Can't you filter your matches by battle points? That way you won't have to face noobs.

You are lucky :D by far most of my fights are ken(again, on the 360 version and ranked). And when they are not ken, they are akuma or ryu followed by gouken. I rarely see anybody else which sucks for me.. i was never competitive with SF(i plyaed 2 on the snes for fun and fun only) so i;m getting into the game a newbie, and i've adopted what i've heard used to be one of the worst characters(cammy).. so i'd really like to see a variety so that i can get good with her and not just against kens.

But, i still love the game. I roll my eyese whenever someone tries to "fake me out" in the character selection screen, but really i just want to fight. It's so much fun.

That's another one of my problems with this whole situation. From what I've seen after my matches with these types of Ken players, their ratings really aren't that bad, so they must be seeing a least some success from using these cheap tactics, on either newer players or people who just got unlucky and were caught in an endless tornado of crouched punches and shoryukens.

Another thing I forgot to mention in my original post, of course while this isn't exclusive to Ken/Ryu players, I've been in many matches that are only one round and have a 30 second timer. In my experience, almost all of these matches were against Ken/Ryu players, they would open up with a hadouken or try to connect with a light punch and then jump around the match, avoiding attacks, as they wait for the timer to go down. I'm a Guile player for example, so I have no problem grabbing them in the air as they're hopping around like an ape, but it seems they do have a lot of success with this tactic. That could be another reason for why you see so many of these players with a fairly decent amount of battle points.

[QUOTE="MightyMuna"][QUOTE="Dante2710"][QUOTE="MightyMuna"] agreed. the dude does not know what he is talking about. button mash in SF? lol. Street Fighter's engine is anti-button mash.

making assumptions FTL

what assumption? you clearly stated that Street Fighter is button masher, clearly you dont know what you are talking about. if you have never played Street Fighter and said it was a button masher, that makes you clueless and ignorant, if you have indeed played Street Fighter and still said it was a button masher, that means you dont know how to play the game, you dont know what you are talking about and you are a noob. either way, you FAIL.

to be fair, he clearly stated that he hates button mashers, and he's glad he stopped playing fighting games. say he meant he hates playing against button mashers (or people that only know one move and spam it, like this thread) and is glad he stopped playing fighting games because of that? button mashers are people too!

I hate most street fighter characters that have the Ken/Ryu characeristics (except for sakura) I usually enjoy characters without projectiles like Fei-Long, Cammy, Karin etc.) I've also experienced people with those kind of characteristics (playing cheap) but what can you do?

Hey my title is "The Artiste" and my line up for SF4 consists of 1) Vega, 2) M. Bison, 3) E. Honda, 4) and working on Gouken. But yes I do notice alot of Ken players but what do you expect, Ryu and Ken were everybodies go to guys back in the day and the easiest to master. Honestly I have more of a problem with Sagat. His hits and uppercuts are SO OVERPOWERED. But besides that this game is perfection.

[QUOTE="MightyMuna"][QUOTE="UGCoat"] If you think fighting games are button mashers then its a good thing you don't play them. You'd be just another guy to own onlineDante2710
agreed. the dude does not know what he is talking about. button mash in SF? lol. Street Fighter's engine is anti-button mash.

making assumptions FTL

No, not being able to write a clear and concise thought FTL.

when I played soul calibur 4, I thought I was being pretty different from the other kilik players. however once I started playing as him everyone would just get pissed at me because there were a lot of kilik spammers. I don't have street fighter 4 yet, but is ken basically the kilik of street fighter 4 :( I was planning to main him and sakura once I got the game... but it looks like im just gonna get angry messages saying "balsuagu u stink cuz u uze teh ken nub" omg I just wished people would play fair. I can't believe people care so much about their record that they'll cheat to make it look like they're pros

I use Cammy and find most of the Ken players a pain too... I lose to some and thats annoying because then they might think their spamming was actually good... though I've been spending all my time unlocking and not really learning Cammy as well as I should be, so I expect more victories in the future.

Ken spammers suck only because his moves are easy to chain, as in spin kick to uppercut, but what bothers me the most is how powerful Sagat is and how few times he can uppercut me and take out a good 80% of my life.

I can see what you mean, it's the concept of skill that you are trying to get at right? Yeah, a lot of people who use him are not that good; however, a select few (aka veterans or dedicated newcomers) can use him in a fair manner (not spamming moves)

street fighter ripped off mortal kombats combos, the first/second street fighter games had no combos.

mortal kombat will always be the better fighting game, street fighters for noobs.

...You must be joking.

I dont get why people are annoyed. Do they expect every player to be an expert? Why complain about move spamming? Move spamming is easy to counter. Whats more annoying then scrubs? Stuck up SF players.

One thing I like about this game is how different it is from Soul Calibur. If you would play as Kilik in SC4 alot of people would kick you from the room because of that I hated that. SF4 only has one on one playing so it doesn't happen anyway.

i know what you mean. Ken is uber annoying. unfortunately, i'm not that great at the game, so i fall into that ******* uppercut all the time. i did finally get my first ranked match victory (don't laugh - i'm sure a lot of you have won many ranked matches: but, hey, it was accomplishment for me) by beating Ken though. it made it extra sweet that i beat him using my favorite, Dhalsim :)

I know what you mean man. I think he is the best in the game but only because his moves are so powerful.

I haven't even attempted a ranked match yet. I won't do so until I can find an arcade stick at a reasonable price.

no kidding! i think Sagat is ridiculously overpowered. i fought a pretty good match against a guy using him. i was Dhalsim, and i probably got in 2X the amount of hits that my opponent got. still didn't matter, as Sagat is so flippin' strong.
