What do you think is best, I thinkstylisation can beat photo-realistic and same is applied other way too (so wii can have better looking games then 360,ps3 and pc if you prefur one over the other) same goes for game cube, ps2 and so on.

I saw another post about how the wii should lost points for graphics as it doesn't look as good as ps3/360, but that is very wrong asstylisation can easly photo-realistic and tbh ages much better too, example uncharted 2, halo, gears 2 and crysis, all amazing looking games (well gears 2 and halo for me but I wanted to include 360 too, wanted it to keep it fair). compare them to wind waker (well, all zelda) and okami and mario galexy, valkyria chronicles. in a way, they could be said that they beat them,

(and I am not a wii fan boy or anything, it's just that nintendo seem to dostylisation more then the others)

anyway, I was wondering what you guys thought ,stylisation or photo-realistic what do you think is best and some of your games in both areas.

depends on the game, i mean okami wouldn't have half the charm if it was rendered to look realistic and the half life 2 cell shaded mod looks very strange.

Off the top of my head: Muramasa, Braid, Limbo, Fable 2, Blazblue & SF4 are my favourite looking games this generation. I also like the style of Halo over most other FPS titles; clear & vibrant as opposed to dark & gritty.

sylisation holds its style a lot longer then more realistic graphics, as proven by windwaker vs twilight princess, but preference for me? i prefer a game with realism, although some of my favourite games are stylized ones like okami :)

Their is no one better then the other. But I would say I prefer stylization because when you look back games that are trying for photo realism usually end up looking terrible a couple of gens from now. But games using a more stylistic approach still look good a few gens after they were created.

Photo-realism in games is actually a type of stylisation.

i doubt a game has ever been released without conscious stylization...

but anyways, your question about what is better (photo-realistic vs not) is a horrible question that I hope nobody here answers sincerely.

Photo-realism ceases to be amazing after a couple of years, whilst stylized games look great for a long time.

Style. There will always be a gap between graphics vs. real world, so being one step ahead of everyone else isn't really a big deal.

Depends on the game. ArmA II, DCS Blackshark, etc. are simulators, so anything other than the closest to reality possible doesn't make any sense for them.

Meanwhile, Mario would be pretty ****ing messed up if its artstyIe wasn't all fruity pebbles (stomping on turtles realistically=YUCK!).

No, one isn't better than the other.

Stylization can be as samey as photorealism if the style applied is overused.

What I personally prefer depends on the game.

I personaly prefer photo realistic vissual over style concept. That is why i rate ALAN WAKE as my best looking game on console now. Uncharted 2 looks great when i play it but it a bit cartoony & not photo realistic at all like alan wake that has a very realistic look both in physics, colours & foilage. My overall best looking games are Crysis for pc & alan wake for consoles. See these vids for your self arcodingly: #1.Crysis PC http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B0A0KmZRn5w #2.Alan wake XBOX 360 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I3yD-QYCy-k #.3 Ucharted 2 PS3 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tA4Yegsd5OU

Was Doom supposed to be photo realistic... or stylized? What about Kingpin... or Riven... or Crackdown 2? Making something look real is more difficult than making something look any way you want it... and I'm not sure what the criteria are for their differences.

Games going for realism wow me more. Arma2 is propably my favourite example. But it doesn't suit every game, like someone said, Mario would look pretty stupid with realistic graphics.
