This isn't the team who made Metroid Prime. It's a colaboration between Team Ninja and first party developers Research & Development 1.

Just so you know, R&D1 are the same developers who made Super Metroid.

How hyped are you that the makers of Super Metroid are making a new Metroid game, and it's being released this year?

I'd be more hyped if it was going back to 2-D. The 3-D ones were good in their own right, but I still think Super Metroid was the best in the series. Only my humble opinion, and I'm sure another 3-D entry would be a fine game.

I wonder how many members of the original team are still there after all these years. Team Ninja being part of the project worries me. I was not a fan of them when Itagaki was there and they were a strong dev team, now without him things are even worse. I really hope Other M will be good, but I still think they should have let Retro do the next Metroid.

I will agree as well to let Retro do the next Metroid, but I would prefer to see what Retro can do for there next game that is Non-Metroid.

I think they will be allowed to spread there wings a little. Didnt Rare also start of doing nintendo franchises before moving onto there own work?!

Its Team Ninja + Yoshio Sakamoto. It is in great hands. Sakamoto has directed all Metroid titles except Metroid II and he has been involved with the Prime series. It will be amazing.

It's basically three teams.

Team Ninja + Nintendo + D-Rockets.

I doubt Team Ninja will do that much - Like visually it reminds me of a Team Ninja game. Also if its not up to Nintendo's standards, they won't release it probably.

Anyway I have high hopes. Though my one problem with it is it looks uglier then the Prime games .. though thats mostly dude to Retro and how well they designed the Prime games.

That's great news. I admit I haven't looked too much into this game, but I've always been really worried about what Team Ninja could do to one of my fav series. If the Super Metroid team has a part in it, I think I can put my fears to rest :)

I still don't trust Team Ninja. I'll most likely get it, but I will be shocked if Other M is better than any of the Prime games.

I disagree. From what i heard, some nintendo devs really had to help retro make the first metroid prime. They made sure retro was making a good game, and i think the same thing is happening with other m. I also what to see retros next game.

They also made Metroid: Fusion. They also made Super Metroid in 1992-1994. Things have changed over the past 16 years... and I will remain very sceptical until I see the final product in front of me. I am confident that the Metroid series has been lost to time and is irretrievable. Nintendo themselves (without help from an outside developer) hasn't really done anything good with the series since Metroid: Zero Mission... and even then that was a remake.

Honestly, I think this is one game they don't want to mess up to piss off the fans. (I know, the fanbase isn't HUGE, but still, it's freakin metroid)

chances are most of the ones that are alive are still there, in japan companies have a low turnover rate. loyalty to ones company is not something known in the west, for employers or employees

As I said, Yoshio Sakamoto has been involved in all Metroid Projects apart from Metroid II. Nintendo themselves haven't done anything good with the series since Zero Mission? I'm pretty sure it wasn't just all Retro when it came to the Prime games. The first even started off as a third person shooter until Miyamoto suggested to make it into a first person shooter. They've been involved and they're continuing to do a good job with the series.

I still wish Retro was at the helm insead of Team Ninja, but hey, if Nintendo's proven anything, they know how to pick the right devs for their franchises.

I havent looked into this game much, but from what I saw last year i thought it was a 2d/3d metroid mix, with crazy fighting scenes (team ninjas contribution?)... looked pretty good, but we'll see. If they have the exploratory complexity that super metroid had, it should be a fun game. I liked all the powerups in the prime series, so as long as its not a step back in teh genre, i'm excited to play this.

It's not like nintendo will let crap pass for their main franchises.... infact no console dev would.

isn't team ninja just there to assist nintendo r&d 1 with the 3D aspects of the game since they have mainly only developed 2D games?

They'll just throw away years of work and money because they don't like it? Sometimes, I wish businesses did that.

Blizzard did that already though... Warcraft Adventures... I would venture to say nintendo is very strict with their main IPs.

Look at all the cruddy Pokemon, Mario, etc. spin-offs. I would argue the opposite

My interest just shot way up, mostly because I thought the team ninja people were doing the development. If it gets everything right and isn't too easy or watered down then I may have to get a wii.

Should have said main games of those IPs lol, I was thinking too much of the spin offs rather than the main game.
