Super NES vs Sega Genesis: Which side you were on

We all know who won the console wars. It was Nintendo. But originally, Sega was winning, with customers preferring to buy Sonic the Hedgehog rather than Nintendo's Super Mario World. Unfortunately, however, Sega was not prepared for the release of Street Fighter II: The World Warrior on Nintendo's SNES.

But enough history lessons. Which side were you on back then: The Super Nintendo Entertainment System or the Sega Genesis?

I had both. They each had games I had to have. Turbo even had BONK!

SNES

I had both, but Genesis first.

Super Nintendo.

It was the PS3 of that era, while the Genesis was the 360.

SNES.

I had a SNES, I loved the SNES and N64. 100% sheep back then.

It was weird the SNES was supposedly more powerful, but they could both do certain things the other couldn't. Like in Batman Forever, the Mega Drive (Genesis) version had speech "The Bat wants to play, we'll play", but the SNES had better graphics I think.

Looking back there was this game I really liked on the MD where you played these space ships facing off, some where alien and had different abilities.

Well, the Genesis released first so I had it first as well! I remember reading about the legendary Super Nintendo in Japan in magazines before it came to the west, lol. I remember buying a six button controller later one and I remember the days when there was no such six button Genesis controller. Pushing Start to switch from Kicks to Punches, lol.

I also added a Sega CD (Sewer Shark, Batman, etc) and 32x (Knuckles comes to mind).

It was a monstrosity, all those cables. lol, If I had a time machine, I might go watch that fight with yourself and buy some more Crystal Pepsi!

Mega Drive,it simply had a much more interesting library for my tastes,barely anything interested me on the snes.

I always was a SEGA Fanboy when I was young...

1st console was Sega Master System, then got the Megadrive, Gamegear, Saturn and the highly underrated Dreamcast !!!

SNES....only b/c I never even knew about the Genisis until way down the road.

Either way....the SNES was the best.

I had both but my genisis just collected dust. I eventually traded it for a gameboy.

I had a Sega Gen although I preferred the SNES game library more.

I had both. Megadrive was my favourite, mostly due to games like Streets of Rage 2, Sonic trilogy, Aladdin, The Story of Thor, Kid Cameleon, Desert, Jungle and Urban Strike, etc. Loved my Snes too, though, but i was never a big fan of JRPGs.

Sega for me

I had both and the Sega was my favorite by far. Really one of my all time favorites.

I used to get all the Sega consoles and my brother used to get all the Nintendo ones when we were growing up. I wouldn't say I favour one over the other though despite always going Sega, very fond memories of both.

Nintendo.

I was all about the Genesis... until I got a SNES, then it was game over. Easily my favorite console ever. Nintendo, Squaresoft, Capcom and Konami were all in beast mode.. then you had Rare, Quintet, HAL, Lucas, all doing good stuff.

Genesis was no slouch, it was a bad ass must own system, but the SNES was just insane.

Don't have time to type anything up at the moment.

What I will say is that this era was a spectacular era for games. It still has yet to be topped and likely never will.

I was on the Amiga at the time,but I used to rent both these consoles every weekend from my local video store.it,s a close one but I will give it to the mega drive sorry I mean Genesis :p loved the snes for its rpg's but the bulk of games I played were action games and the mega drive had some amazing ones.

Sega Genesis for me.

Mega Drive, Snes never took off here in New Zealand for some reason.

Couldn't have been on any side.

SNES. Mainly because it had more variety and longevity.

I had both and I enjoyed both, but I definitely preferred my SNES more.

SNES. Liked the games better and I had been a Nintendo fan already.

Genesis all the way.....one of the best consoles ever. Though I did eventually get the SNES.

I have the same story as you I grew up with Sega. They had so many amazing games on genesis. It's too bad Sega don't still make hardware.

Genesis for me by a tiny bit. I enjoyed the arcade-like games of SEGA vs. Nintendo's output more back in those days.

SNES. Better games, better Aladdin, so on and so forth.

I was too young to care about which system had which games. I was in elementary school lol. Anyway, my parents got me a Genesis bundled with Sonic 2. Good times.

i had the genesis...but i wished i had snes too....

I had them both.I liked The Sega Genesis better.I found that the older game players went towards the Sega Genesis and the younger group went with the Super Nintendo.Or maybe I'm wrong,I don't know.Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

Me too.. I had better memories with Sega due to the awesomeness of the "Sega Channel".

That's how the generation played out for the most...yes.

SEGA does what Nintendon't. Best. Marketing. Slogan. Ever.

We was only allowed to have one or the other growing up and the elder sibling made the decision. He made the wrong one. =(

Well actually I was always a little partial to Sega.

FF4,FF6, Actraiser, Super Metroid, Street Fighter, Earthbound, Mario Kart, Secret of Mana, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.... Man the Snes was a beast.

Only PS3 competes as a console with so many amazing games.
