Super Smash Bros Brawl has no chance of GOTY

Why? Well a 9.5 in the shallow party genre has no chance against the 9.5s that'll be in genres with high standards. Hell, even an 8.5 in the in any other genre would have a better chance at GOTY than Smash Bros.

Regardless, with Spore and Starcraft guaranteed 9.5s (and being in the highest standard genres), your button mashing shallow party game has no chance. Lets not forget that even if Metal Gear Solid 4 and Little Big Planet flop (8.5), they will still beat out Smash for GOTY due to higher genre standards.

Enjoy your 9.5 sheep, but Smash has as much chance of getting GOTY 2008 as WarioWare: Smooth Moves did at getting GOTY 2007. Shallow party games simply can't compete.

You really hate anything nintendo with a passion, don't ya? Even more so then you hate everything else gaming related that's not on the pc.

For starters, a game doesn't have to be GOTY to be good.. and even if brawl is inferior to the games you listed, it wouldn't mean that brawl has to be a poor game at all. Also, reviewers and fans agree that the smash series is not shallow or just "party games". They are accessable, but they are also deep and competitive.

SSBB is hella fun as a button mashing party game.

SSBB is even better than that as a deep and technical fighter.

It has a great chance at GotY. Or at least as much chance as any fighting game has had.

Perhaps not. What i don't understand is why everyone is so keen to dismiss certain games already; whether it be brawl by dismissing it as a contender or every other game to come this year by declaring brawl the winner now.

Aslo, Why does it seem a game has to be complex to be great? SMG certainly wasn't very complicated at its core.

i agree that SSBB probably won't get GOTY, but that's probably because it's too much like previous smash Brother games.

1- its a fighter
2- Its loaded with content
3- The game is much more than a button masher
4- Because its still enjoyable among 4 player on 1 couch doesnt make it a party game.
5- I agree Spore will win

But fighters have high standards, and Brawl has set the standard high in terms of variety, gameplay, content, and features in fighters.

Virtue Fighter holds the depth.

But that doesnt make SSBB shallow, its deep just not the deepest.

As Un-GOTY sterotypical as it is its something games dont do very often they make them FUN Ive been playing super smash though the whole series and i can say if it gets GOTY it 100% deserves it

smg was released closer to the end of the year. I think if gow2 was released around the same time it wouldn't have been an easy win.
