Super Smash Bros. Brawl is a super smash hit in Japan. When it went on sale, the game sold out at loads of Tokyo game shops, and in the last two weeks, the title has shifted a million copies. It took Wii Fit seven weeks to hit a million copies sold, and it took Wii Sports eleven weeks to hit that milestone. That makes Super Smash Bros. Brawl the fastest selling Wii game, which should make Nintendo very, very happy.

holy ****, thats intense.

Fast but not as fast as Halo 3.

Note to fellow SW posters: The previous statement is not a shot at the Wii or an endorsement of Halo. Merely an observation of how fast that dang game sold. :D

That's pretty good. I think it will beat halo in the long run though. The only reason halo sold so much is because eveyone bought there copy before they noticed it was terrible(im talking 3). Also, we should just compare american opening sales, that's the main market for the two.

Are you suggesting it will sell as fast as Halo here in NA? Not bloddy likely. It may eventually pass Halo 3, but it will not do the amazing numbers Halo 3 did in 24 hours.

Well, considering its the best "everybody" game the Wii has had for a few months (since SMG), or longer depending on your taste in games, It's no surprise it's selling so well. The wii is suffering from the PS3's early issue of having a game draught.

I guess 2007 was to good of a year, but I think 2008 will be much, much better. Brawl, ANimal Crossing and Mario Kart? Not to mention the hope that here may be a good fps coming soon

Considering the Wii-units sold in Japan, the hyping about this game, the non-so many titles to choose from (considering Wii owners got already the awesome SMG and Zelda titles and besides SSBB was stronger than any 3rd party title),the love of japanese for these kind of games, i was expecting 1M in less than 2weeks.

There were titles that sold 1M in a day or 2 in japan so 2 weeks dont make me say WoW!!.But its a nice number though for 2weeks.

I think you are misunderstanding my post. I do think SSBB will outsell Halo 3; however, it won't break the 24 hour sales record of Halo 3. Wonder what game will. GTAIV? But that begs the question do you have to break up sales for GTAIV by platform? Teh confusing.

Not to nitpicking but the game is Dairantou Smash Brothers X, not Super Smash Bros. Brawl that sold over a million copies in Japan. Brawl has yet to be released in North America here. Why are many so Western-centric that they use the Western name of a game that is only sold in Japan as Smash Brothers X? And why is the Western-centricism in this forum?

First of all, you are nitpicking.

Second of all, its because this is an English forum and its the same game. Why call it Dairantou Smash Brothers X, when Super Smash Bros. Brawl (or SSBB) is something everyone understands around here.

Welcome to a Western forum, where we refer to games by their Western names.

The only games we refer to by their Eastern names seem to be old SNES RPGs.

Also, why don't the Japanese call it Super Smash Brothers Brawl? I mean, more copies of SSBB will sell than Dairot... smash brothers X, so that seems to be the more popular name?

It also doesn't have it's own soda. Or sell with replica helmets. Or an extensive advertising campaign.

In fact pretty much all the've done is the Dojo website and PR pieces (in the outlets that care about that stuff). So the breakeven on this release is much much lower.

Halo 3 was THE system seller of the generation. SSBB is just another day with Nintendo. About 100,000 a day is huge and everyone knows it.

The only problem with that idea... Halo was marketed heavily in every facet of life in the US before its release. With exception to the Dojo and a few media outlets (that specialize in gaming) - there really isn't much exposure for SSBB in the US. Another issue is supply. Hopefully, Nintendo will have at least 2 or 3 million copies available on launch day.

In sales? I think it will pass Halo eventually, but destroy? That will be tough. And if you are referring to game-play, that discussion is not being had now. Thanks. ;)
