In an interview with Pro-G, Chris Taylor, founder of Gas Powered Games and the man behind Dungeon Siege, ****cPC RTS Total Annihilation and its recent spiritual successor Supreme Commander, said that the Xbox 360 would be the most likely console destination for the game because "it's the platform of choice for moving stuff from the PC".

http://www.pro-g.co.uk/news/22-10-2007-6725.html

Hopefully they look at C&C: TW controller scheme, it worked well enough for a console.

Dear lord, I don't think you can micromanage that well on a controller. Even some of my RTS friends for the pc think that Supreme Commander has a 'bit too much. . . I don't see how it would be even possible to pull this off.

My thoughts exactly. It's nice that more people get to play Supcom, but would those people like it anyway? C&C3 didn't sell all that well on the 360, while it was a huge succes on the pc. I just can't see Supcom doing better.

Well that's ambitious if anything, I can understand CnC and WiC on consoles, but Supreme Commander seems like a lot more complex game, even if the controls would work, would there really be audience for it on the 360? I guess time will tell.

As a side note. I hope Space Siege doesn't get multiplatformed but rather only ported later to 360.

I'll be honest. I never tried Supreme Command on the PC. Actually, I installed it but for some reason it looked to overwhelming at the time. I should give it another go at some point.

Porting an excellent PC RTS to consoles (and bastardizing the controls in the process) is game-abuse.

and yes, I played C&C:TW on 360...and no the controls were not great.

If they can get it to work then that would be great. But you need some of the keyboard shortcuts to work it well, mouse wheel is a bonus to as it lets you zoom out and in with great precision. I personaly really don't think they could do it.

TA veteran and SupCom regular here. Admittedly, SupCom has a very steep learning curve and appeals to a rather specific audience, so patience is required. Even a TA veteran like me had to withdraw sorrily into Sandbox after the first game. Also, if you found SupCom overwhelming, you might like to hold off trying to learn it as you'll have to re-learn every from scratch once the Forged Alliance expansion (if you decide to give it a go) comes anyway. Impressions from the Forged Alliance Beta seems to point to a completely different, and a much better, game.

I was a huge TA fan back in the day, and SupCom looked awesome, but I never got around to checking it out.

This game has insane system requirements, doesn't it? I know my PC wouldn't have a chance in hell of running it.

I don't see how they would be able to port such a system hog to the 360, but I would like to see myself proved wrong.

This game will probably kill more x360s than Forza 2.

Gameplay wise. It seems like it is more hardcore then anything else out there.

ss_49

They aren't great but they are functional. The unit limit on C&C bothered me more than the controls... I'm glad to see C&C back on a console though, it's been too long.

SupCom... tried the PC demo, wasn't impressed with the performance I was getting out of my ageing PC so a decent 360 port would suit me and others like me nicely.

Controlling that game is 100% impossible on consoles. At least to any significant degree. Waste of time on devs part, it wont sell at all.

Well, the patches have significantly improved performance over the months, especially on lower-end systems. In addition, Forged Alliance doesn't seem to improve framerate much, but has greatly improved simulation speed and game stability. I think they also worked quite a bit on core usage in multi-core systems. But yeah, you do need quite a strong system to get the most out of the game. What rig have you got, mate?

Yeah, I agree. If they want to bring it to 360 they should get some other team to port it.

I wouldn't call it "more hardcore", just appealing more to a very specific audience. I cannot tell you if you belong in that audience or not - it's for you to find out. Gameplay emphasizes larger armies - whereas the games mentioned might involve dozens to 50+ units per player per battle, SupCom regularly involve hundreds of units. But it also demands that you care less about your units and more about achieving your objectives. Sending masses of units to their very quick deaths is a perfectly acceptable practice here. You also get more variety of tools to work with; with navies, air force, strategic artillery that can fire across maps, etc, giving you more strategic options, but the resource and base construction system means you never have time to implement them all in a battle. Pace-wise it starts off slow, but get real crazy real fast - later in the game I feel it's even more hectic than Starcraft.

The demo is a very poor representation of the full game's (patched) performance.

Why did you phrase it like it's confirmed? Not even close. He just said if they were doing it it would be to 360. And there's just no freaking way that would work anyways unless they dumbed down and ruined the game.

Good god SC on a console? It'll either be insanely dumbed down or completely broken.

To be honest it's too slow and complex for many console gamers anyway. :?

Oh you're so right, the founder of Gas Powered Games doesn't know what the **** he's talking about. He's really just an android made to look like Chris Taylor that was built by microsoft and they have him saying impossible things are going to happen on the 360. /end sarcasm. Yeah because a games developer can never get it wrong, right?

If you've ever played SC you'll know it would need some major changes before it'll even remotly work it needs too much micro managment to be used with a controller it isn't like C&C3 or WiC.

I am the audience for it. I love RTS's on consoles. Can't wait for this also. Total Annihalation was awesome.

Let me put this lightly. SupCom is a ***** to play with 50 Hotkeys and a mouse set at full speed. The maps are MASSIVE. How the **** is that going to work on a controller. If there was ever one RTS I KNEW 100% would never work on consoles it was SupCom. I KNEW. It is rediculous enough managing 1000 troops with a M+KB and every key on the keyboard set as a hotkey, but holy crap... A controller? Never in a million years.

no... that just won't work. Believe me, SupCom and consoles are something that need to be seperated at all costs, because if they somehow attempt to merge, you will get a game worse than Superman 64

yet one another AAA quality game for Xbox 360, wheres my PS3 version WAH starts crying.

what a mess no PC developer wants to atleast try PS3 and make a good game for it.

Actually I think the PS3 version would be great, because of it's Cell processor. All of the calculations of units on the map could be done pretty efficiently. I hope alot of these RTS's come out on the PS3 also. You can also use a mouse and keyboard on the PS3 BTW. I still prefer the controller, though.

Did he ever say that he would bring it to consoles?

The direct quotes in that article are all hypothetical, as if the interviewer asked, "if you were to bring it to consoles, which one would it be?". The only place where they say he will, is in the authors own words, not Chris Taylor's.

The memory requirement for this game is pretty high. Hope it works out well.
