SW Choice for Best Shooter Series - Round 3 now CLOSED

I know. I'm debating between picking Team Fortress 2 over Half-Life 2 right now just because I know if any game can stop Half-Life it's another Valve game. Thing is, Episode 2 is just so good. The rest of Half-Life is whatever, but if they make HL3 like Episode 2 we are going to be in for one hell of a game. But until then, yeah, Half-Life is way over-rated on SW.

I was given a coupon for 75% off of a Valve game. I could not bring myself to purchase a game. Sure, I've played the majority of them, but there was nothing that made me want to purchase the two I hadn't played: Portal 2 and Left 4 Dead 2. Later I won Portal 2 through Steam and ended up giving it away to someone who I felt would appreciate it more than me. I really don't think they're that good. They're not bad, I mean the games are still entertaining, but there's nothing about a Valve game to me that screams out "YOU HAVE TO PLAY THIS NAOW!" Only one of their games, Episode 2, made me feel that way. And it was a five hour expansion to the main game. I'd buy Half-life 3 if they release it, but they keep making crap I don't even want to try anymore.

Sad, doesn't seem like such a bad game. I understand the whole "more linear" crap that people throw at the game but does that really make it a bad game?

It's not a bad game at all. It's not as good as the first game and its expansion, but it's still an entertaining shooter. In terms of what it tried to do with the story and all, yeah, it lost itself quite a bit. But as far as being a shooter, it was still a fun game. And much better than the Gears of War sequels.

I would casually like to remind people that Just Cause is not a TPS, and that the shooting mechanics that are featured in it are incredibly bad.

As for the poll: an assault rifle switched to semi-automatic, and maybe with a scope. So technically it would be halfway to being a sniper rifle (voted automatic and semi-automatic rifle, anyway).

HL2 and Riddick I thought were pretty great, but most of my favorites are gone. :(

And always be bolting, or semi-autoing I suppose. The point is I want damage and accuracy. Much more satisfying when you hit someone.

Assault rifles are my go to weapons for modern shooters, like most people. It varies from game to game. Big fan of the needle rifle in Reach. COD it's the M4. UT it was the flak cannon. Goldeneye the RCP90(FN P90).
