Too many sequels. Too many rehashes. Oh no, not another entry of this or that game which I played to death on PS1 or Nintendo 64. Yet for all the complaints about repetition of long running series and highly recognizable characters that bridge eras, the new systems have also seen the birth of some shining new IP's that have become the identity of this generation.
Take note this is not necessarily about the best game seen in this generation, but best new IP that began with this generation. So GTA4, GOW4, Halo 3 or Reach, Super Mario Galaxy, Zelda TP, Skyrim, among many other excellent titles are not in the running here. This is to celebrate the IP's which have made their first appearance in this generation. No sequels from previous systems or reboots (like Mortal Kombat or the upcoming Tomb Raider) can qualify. And over the next 5 weeks we'll battle it out to see what new series comes out on top.
A special note to be taken regarding PC games. Since they don't have "generations" in the same structure of consoles, they're being counted in the same time frame looking only at PC IP's released on Nov 2005 or after.
As you can all see by the voting chart seen below, each competing IP is paired up in versus sets, which determines which game you'll vote for in the versus of each block. You can't simply name the games you like from the total list. Your votes have to correspond to the chart and choose just ONE IP from each set, as will determine which ones proceed to the next round.
So let's get on to the official rules of participation.
* Only users level 10 or higher may vote.
* Your votes must correspond to the chart, whereby you select just one contestant from each Versus Set.
* You must type up your votes in a numbered list according to the chart (1-24 for round 1, 1-12 for round 2, and so on) in the same order as seen on the chart.
* You MUST vote for each and all Versus Sets. Incomplete lists won't be counted.
* You May change your votes as often as you like, up until the cutoff time. When doing so DO NOT make a new post, edit your original post.
* You may leave some slots blank (just still have the number in the list) while considering your choice. It just has to be complete before cutoff time to be counted.
Failure to meet these requirements will mean your ballot won't be counted when the tally is done. So now, check with the Round 1 chart and cast your votes!! :) :) You can also see my own ballot in the next post as an example of the voting format.
In the event of a tie, the GS user score will be the tie breaker to determine the IP that proceeds forward to the next round. In the case of IP's with multiple entries in this generation, an average of those user scores, going only by main title entries, not spinoffs or secondary ports.
ROUND 1 BEGINS MON FEB 13, VOTING ENDS SUN FEB 19
