How can a franchise I've never played or met anyone who has played it be winning ? :s
Shockingly enough, it seems like the gaming world extends far beyond you and your circle of friends.
Lol, someone is on the defensive now. I could probably continue the arguement, but I fear we would be going in circles, seems like we already are actually. If me being a Mario fanboy helps you sleep at night, then I am a Mario Fanboy, call me whatever you want (already been called a Kinect fanboy, Zelda fanboy, Obsidian Fanboy, Blizzard Fanboy, Nintendo Fanboy, Microsoft Fanboy, GOG fanboy, Larian Fanboy, might as well add mario to that list). Anyways...
@charizard1605 Dont worry, they are nowhere near as complex as you might imagine.
Thac0 means To Hit Armor Class 0, basically. Just make this as low as possible. (Note: Items that add a bonus to THAC0 actually lower it, so that is a good thing).
Saving Throws are basically resistances: Shouldnt take a genious to figure out what htis means.
Armor Class: Basically lower it as much as possible. The higher your AC, the harder you are to hit.
Multiclassing vs Dual Classing: Just know that Dual classing is exclusive to humans, when you dual class you can no longer use your original class until your other class reaches the same level, and your original class no longer gains exp. Also know that Kensai dual classing into thief or mage is practically an I.W.I.N. character more than capable of soloing the entire game. Multiclassing allows your character to level up two classes but the HP gain is lower when each individual class levels up and each class gets 50% of the exp rather than 100%.
ust don't be a bard. Bards fucking suck :D
You take that back...
...oh you meant 2nd Edition bards. Carry on then.
I think a good rule of thumb for any old-school RPG that you are playing for the first time is to actually print out the manual, staple it together, and use it for reference while you play the game. A lot of old games have manuals that read like books, and give little to no guidance within the game itself.
1.Zelda
2.Megaman
3.Metalgear
I chose a balanced approach I guess. I'd add castlevania over either of those 3 but only if Iga's at the helm.
Fine, I'll fix my post:
*Metroid: Other M wasn't as good as the Prime games, but still largely good (especially the gameplay, which was way more like Super Metroid than any of the Prime games). Metroid II: Return of Samus was much better than the original. Metroid Prime: Hunters was an excellent game, just not a great "Metroid". Metroid Prime: Pinball was great, even if it wasn't even an action-adventure (kind of like how Mario Tennis or Party are spinoffs).

I'd take it over Prime 3 any day of the week.

It's a toss-up for me. The gameplay in Prime 3 was spectacular (still hate myself for not buying the Trilogy) but the exploration was heavily limited and that terrible final boss fight(s)... YARGH
For a series to be built on an exceptionally strong foundation of insane boss fights, that anti-climactic finish was ball-bustingly hard to endure.
And I think I was one of the few that not only enjoyed the story in Other M, but thought it was a positive step forward for Samus as a character and the franchise (and regardless of what SJWs think, she was not a "powerless female", in fact, she was an emotionally vulnerable, real-feeling character that grew as a person under stress and went on to conquer the hardships she had to endure).
I still find it fascinating that people think the scene with her seeing Ridley was her being depicted as a "weak female". They so oddly forget that less than 30 seconds later, she went on to destroy him in one of the most difficult and impressive Ridley fights in their entire franchise to date.

For its time, Baldur's Gate did explain itself pretty darn well ingame, especially compared to this.
Where a few things were not even explained in the manual. It is still a great RPG though and even better than Baldur's Gate 2, and unlike Baldur's Gate 2, bards do not suck.
Assassin's Creed is now beating Megaman on the leaderboard. Sorry @darkspineslayer, looks like @PhazonBlazer wins this round.
Not surprising. Most of system wars is too fucking plebeian to even appreciate rock, paper, scissors. Forget about something that takes actual reflexes.

I thought the plot was butthole cancer, and totally buy they make her a puss wagon. IT comes back to the Nintendo should stop pretending their franchises have a timeline, it makes no sense the second you think about it. Somehow after the umpteenth Ridley fights, Samus now is feeling emotional over shit is jarring no matter how they spin it, and the constant gamey shit being glossed over as "video game logic" is like, no, no, either do it right, or don't do it. In that context i always loved Prime 1 and 2, because the Story had nothing to do with the character, and compliments in the game as you are exploring this area, and discovering everything about this area. There was a synergy there, where as Other M was trying to humanize an ass kicking machine, who is obedient in the most offensively stupid ways.
But if we're arguing gameplay, I think Prime 3's shooting is fine, and it is a good shooter, especially given the control scheme there. But those boss fights are fun enough, but underwhelming considering the franchise. It's like their boss fights from Zelda or something. Other M's fights were good, Other M's environmental design is mediocre (artistically and from a design language stnadpoint), but the actual action I think is more satisfying. Prime 3 is action serving a control scheme, Other M is action serving action game badassery. Samus moves and reacts in a powerful manner, and the fights live up to that combat engine. If the control scheme wasn't dumb, it be a dope combat engine.
I don't know, regardless both games are good games for what they are, but neither really stands up to a Metroid standard all things considered. My thing has always been Prime 3 is an action game, and Other M is an action game, but are busy being more simplified action games, and frankly Other M just does that better. But some of the purists get all "bu bu bu the atmosphere'...and yo honestly I'm starting to think all the idiots who wrote about Super Metroid never fucking understood Super Metroid, and wrote bullshit about it like THE LEVEL DESIGN IS AMAZING
why?
because atmosphere.
Completely ignoring that the reason that shit is actually really awesome is the speed running and the sequence breaking. Super Metroid was ahead of its time in the sense that you could do so many areas of the game in 4 or 5 different ways, way before Deus Ex was trying to do that shit in 3D (where that shit should be a no fucking duh), and it's the type of shit that when Strider, or Castlevania, or these modern metroid vanias do the item-gating, or more recently the newest Tomb Raider, they don't fucking get why Item-gating worked in Super Metroid.
I think this rant session was great for both of us.

What can I say, the people of SW have a great taste.

I can understand some of the hate other M gets. Though I still found it to be fun game.
