Darksiders (if the second is at least as good as the first!)
Alot of the games I have played are either new installments in old franchises or stand alone titles that will never have a sequel. (:( Knights in the Nightmare)
A series worth noting, i think, is Scribblenauts. If it were brought to consoles/ PC, the game could be one of the greatest games ever. The DS ones are still fun.
The Witcher: Although The Witcher as a whole has existed for much longer than this gen, this is the first gen where The Witcher has been adapted in video game form. It was a huge success as well. With strong choices and consequences emphasising Grey as opposed to black and white and a good story.
STALKER: Open World FPS? Works better than you think, no game this gen matches the atmosphere found in STALKER. Game was scary, had multiple endings and had good gunplay, especially for an FPS.
Mount and Blade: Best melee combat and archery ever, all done in a sandbox, sign me up. Oh and the character creation isnt shabby either.
1. Mass Effect - deepest original universe in quite a long time, great overarching story, great characters, gameplay isn't bad by any means. 2. Bioshock - like System Shock, but with more crazy people, drugs, and it's underwater - how can that not be a bad thing? Seriously, possibly the best game setting ever, incredible atmosphere, pretty damn intense firefights, and crazy people! 3. Portal - one of the most original game mechanics created in an age, wrapped up in an awesome, if slightly small, ball of great writing, characterization, atmosphere, humour and Cave Johnson. Honorable mention goes to Assassin's Creed, Gears, Uncharted, etc.
