We're only one month away from the Switch 2 Direct!! And boy do we need it, the gaming announcements have been very dry the last few months. For me, I really want the next 3D Mario game! It's been 8 years since Mario Odyssey. I'm hoping the next one is a true Mario 64 successor. Odyssey was a bit too laidback and too much putzing around. Other than that, please announce that our current Switch games will get a performance boost! What about you, SW? What is on your Switch 2 launch wishlist?

Not really interested in another main Mario game, but I do want another Luigi's Mansion for Switch 2 so there's that. Metroid Prime Beyond for Switch 2 is what I'm expecting but also expecting cross-gen and I'm interested how both versions will fair. So far, just a new Luigi's Mansion and Metroid Prime Beyond is what I'm gonna wishlist for.

Realistic: Mario Kart, 3D Mario game, Smash Bros Ultimate: Ultimate Edition, some tech demo that uses the mouse function and costs $70.

Maybe: ARMS 2, F-Zero. Nintendo doesn't talk much about ARMS, but it sold fairly well and Min Min made it to Smash. They could see it as good launch window filler. Almost put F-Zero in the next category, but 99 has me thinking they might bring this back.

Not happening: Mach Rider (I know I'm the only one asking for this), Waverace, 1080, Excite Truck/Bots, a new Star Fox with Platinum given free reign to do it however they want.

A new 3D Mario is the main one, hopefully Odyssey 2. And Metroid Prime 4 of course.

Would also love a new Luigi's Mansion. And a 3D Donkey Kong game would be cool.

I think it'll mainly launch with Mario Kart 9 and maybe some cross-gen titles like Metroid Prime 4. They don't need 10 huge games at launch because it's going to sell like hotcakes anyway.

I do imagine we'll get a new Fire Emblem and Mario game within the first 12 months though.

@Planeforger: The Nvidia leak showed a Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War remake in the pipeline. That shouldn't be too hard to have ready by this year.

As always, not hyped for anything Nintendo but will have to buy it for Metroid only. Or if they make a Zelda that is NOTHING like BOTW or ToTk.

More than 1 good launch game.

New F-Zero

New Donkey Kong

New 3rd person Metroid, like Other M, but good.

A more interesting Mario Kart. MK8 was too damn basic and quickly became stale as a result. Bring back Double Dash mechanics or something.

  • F-zero GX sequel

Metroid Prime 4 is the big one.

A new Mario Kart would be good too (The last one I played was the Wiiu version of 8....a long long time ago now). Given this was in the reveal I'd say this is likely for launch.

And surprises. Always surprise. I love a good surprise.

I also hope the BC is good and Switch games get a boost (that's not behind a paywall). I have a fair few Switch games that I have put off because I'd prefer to play them on a more capable machine. Haven't even looked at Tears of the Kingdom yet.

Man just thinking.....the Switch is the first Nintendo system where I didn't play a Zelda game (I played BOTW on the WII U). That's...strange.

Mostly I want new things we've never heard about before. Also Bloodborne. Then Metroid, new Mario, new Zelda, new Xeno, Bayonetta 4, Eternal Darkness 2. Other than that I hope for a lot of third party support with new games not just a ton of re-releases.

This thread is hilarious to me, most of you guys shit on other franchises like CoD, Halo, and any other franchise that is over a decade old, and yet you guys want games from franchise that in some cases are 40yts old.

The Nintendo getting a free pass thing is still real.

@last_lap: Because their games are consistently good. This doesn't just apply to Nintendo. Resident Evil, Street Fighter, Tekken are all decades old, and are still some of the biggest games around right now. Heck, even Monster hunter is old enough to drink in the US and just had it's most successful release yet.

CoD is an annual franchise, we got burnt out. Halo has fallen out of favor because people don't like the 343 games as much as the Bungie ones.

I don't think Nintendo has made a new ip for the Switch, just games from existing franchises, all very samey.

Just that free pass Nintendo always get.

@last_lap: It is a matter of opinion, but it's an opinion a lot of folks agree with me on. That's why the Switch sold so well.

Nintendo should make more new IPs, but there were a few on Switch. I haven't played Ring Fit Adventure, but it is supposedly a fun game and legitimately good workout. And, I know not many agree with me on this, but ARMS is one of my favorite games of this past generation. I'd rank it up there with Power Stone as one of the all time best arena brawlers.

That's not true though, if Nintendo's games are consistently good as you claim then why did the N64, Gamecube, Wii U fail then? The Switch is a success because it was gimmicky (like how the Wii was) and its bestselling game is a Wii U game.

It will be interesting to see if Nintendo do the same thing with the Switch 2 with only a bigger/better screen and better hardware inside of it, because if it does then I don't think it will sell the same as the Switch did. I think Nintendo needs to be gimmicky to stay relevant.

@last_lap: "...its bestselling game is a Wii U game".

Sure, and the best selling game on PS4/XB1 was a PS360 game, GTA V. I'm not sure how this supports your point. Mario Kart is the best selling game on every Nintendo console. People love that shit. I like F-Zero, Waverace, and even Excite Truck more, but clearly most folks don't agree with my opinion here.

I'll meet you halfway on the hardware though. People aren't always on board with Nintendo's hardware. But when they are, they buy the software in droves. Even on the failed consoles, Nintendo games manage to put up pretty good numbers. Like, Splatoon moved about 5 million copies on the Wii U. That's really impressive on a system that bombed so hard.

Now N64's problem was sticking with cartridges. They were too expensive, and didn't have enough memory. Third parties jumped ship. Plus, they launched late that gen.

Gamecube had discs, but they were small. Third party support was better, but still half-hearted. They were directly competing with two much larger corporations at this point. And the GC was the only console that wasn't also a dvd player. That said, most folks now acknowledge the games were really good, and that's why used GC game prices have skyrocket in recent years.

Wii U was just a bad gimmick no one wanted, but people bought the heck out of those games once they were put on a system they did want.

Again, if Nintendo's software was so great then it would never have a console failure, people don't care about if their games come on disc or cartridge, that's a moot talking point, because you go from well the N64 had cartridges is why it failed to sure Gamecube had discs but the disks were too small excuses. I own both of those consoles, and didn't care what format the games came on, and still don't.

The GTA V vs Mario Kart reference is an apples to oranges comparison, one is on all platforms (except Nintendo's) compared to a game on a single platform, and had GTA V on the Switch it too would have been the highest selling game, but instead it's highest selling game is a remaster.

And i'm currently playing BotW on the Wii U right now and its a 100x better console than the Wii ever was but because the Wii was the most gimmicky shit ever it sold well.

As for the prices of the Gamecube and games, well things that aren't in abundance tend to have high prices attached to them, you should go checkout prices of Sega games and consoles, how good they were are irrelevant, the name behind the title is what sells them, and I know this because I trade on Ebay a LOT and have just about every retro console and a ton of games (close to 2,000) and you can buy Gamecube games for $10.

It's possible (and highly likely) that people just got sick of Nintendo's games and the reason the Wii sold so well was not because of its games but because of the gimmicky controls etc, and Nintendo have struggled ever since the SNES, with only the 2 gimmicky consoles selling the most, where its normal consoles in the Gamecube, N64, Wii U sold poorly.

They have made new IP every single generation. With that, they bring back old fan favorites. That's like saying no more Resident Evil or Grand Theft Auto or Final Fantasy. That makes no sense. If a franchise is popular and there's still new ideas for it, then more sequels will get made. If it's stale and tired, and there's no new ideas, it won't get a sequel.
