Poll Switch is down 5% in Q1! Do you think it's in a decline? (56 votes)

No, the rest of the year will be better. 59%
It will be down for this year, may recover in later years 14%
Year 1 was a peak/fluke and it'll sell less each year from now until Nintendo drops it like Wii U 25%
This is the "Switch is a failure" option for people like EMGESP, Stuff, and NathanDrakeSwag 2%

Considering the fact that Nintendo says in the report that there's an upswing after E3, I think it's fine and that it'll still beat last year by 20-30% when all is said and done, but they might not hit 20 million so their stock price will tank.

No, if year-over-year sales are better than one quarter's sales difference either over previous quarter or previous year's parallel quarter isn't a huge signal at 5%.

Oh no... down 5% from a phenomenal first year. Switch is doomed! Near 20 million in its first 16 months.

I chose No. Sure they'll need to do better in Q1, it was Barron. But overall, we still have Fall coming up and then the holidays

I posted this in a thread, but it's Nintendo's own fault.

Last year had more must-have games. Pokemon is meh, still going to sell great though. Smash is looking great. There's no VC- especially Gamecube VC. Instead we're getting paid online and NES games. A few good games released, but most of the big stuff is WiiU ports. Plus 3DS is getting interesting/good games like Metroid, Mario Party, Warioware, Mario RPG, and for some reason they're not coming to Switch as well. They are not going all in on Switch like they should be. Some of this stuff just doesn't make much sense, but it's Nintendo.

That said, still love my Switch.

I think its first year was a fluke. It's an overglamorized Android tablet without Android that has two good games. I think it will fizzle out.

I wouldn't say Switch is in decline, just on-hold until the biggest Switch exclusive game is release and that is SSB Ultimate.

5% is nothing, in fact the sales show how strong is the Switch as a system. I mean, after the stellar games it got on release, being able to hold on a second year with no system sellers showing good sales numbers it's great. But of course, Nintendo is doomed.

Nintendo went chapter 11, didn't you hear? Google and Amazon already put in a bid to buy them.

That's another part of why I don't think it's in decline and that it'll be up by a nice amount when all is said and done.

Also, where is that stuff guy to say that it'll never outsell GameCube? He's a fun one.

No. Even Nintendo knew that this Quarter would be down. They have very few appealing games this quarter, and Mario Odyssey carried them to January and February, but Bayonetta 1/2, Kirby, and Labo won't continue to push them through Q1. It has a been a dead period save Wii U ports and indies. Though now Nintendo is releasing tons of quality games and even delayed a few for the beginning of next year. That was a smart decision because instead of overloading the system at the end with nothing at the beginning, you now have some big hitters at the end with moderate hits (Yoshi, Fire Emblem, etc) for Q4 and next Q1.

@luxuryheart: Note that those are Q3 and Q4 respectively for Nintendo (meaning that January-March is still part of the current FY and included in the 20 million target).

Yea it's a decline but it looks like they have their biggest hitters coming in towards the end of the year so things should get better for them.

I wanted to see how far the parody goes, but it wasn't an important part of the thread or anything.

Nintendo predicted this though. They expect Q3 and Q4 to help them out with sales due to Pokemon Let's Go and Smash. Those are big and anticipated games.

The new pokemon games, not even mains series ones, will likely sell 10 million more units by themselves.

So no.

I mean, it's a decline. But is the Switch in decline? Time will tell. This, by the way, is the PS4 effect. By comparison to the PS4, everything looks like a failure.

I don't think a low period is really a decline, especially when practically zero worthwhile games released in that time.

5% isn't significant either way, but it may be the start of the decline.

They have three of their best selling franchises in Super Smash Bros., Pokemon, and Mario Party all releasing later this year that will no doubt sell many consoles, so no, I don't think this decline will last for very long.
