@jumpaction: Agreed. As i posted already, Jimquisition posted what a truly objective review is yesterday. The moment a review starts to call anything good or bad it is the preferences of the human(S) doing the review that decide that. Hence it becomes subjective. It is always subjective. Just like beauty being in the eye of the beholder.

@cainetao11: I'm absolutely ok with it being a subjective statement. I didn't say it thinking everyone would agree with me. I said it because three 10 rated games in a years time can't be swept under the rug as, they have a weak lineup... THAT is false.... And not subjective. The switch has a fantastic growing library of games. I'm merely pointing out that the games they've released are of the highest quality in their respective genres. Place your order however you'd like! For me, personally the Witcher isn't even in the top 10 and we can talk about it all day, but really it's a side shoot of my point. I'm well aware of the great open world games, I just think botw stands above the rest.

@cainetao11: It's funny. People will even go as far as to say that game design is their source and that their opinion is based on 'good game design' but even that is relative to the player.

It's psychological. A series of recognizable patterns. Of course it's easier to measure when a practice isn't fun and we avoid what we don't like but I don't even think it's all that common to see people describe why they don't like something in tangible detail enough to be all that relatable.

This is why I think we see people adopting this right/wrong mindset that is reinforced by websites like Metacritic. When they don't like something and neither understand what they like or dislike about it, they fall back on others to explain it for them. That's not true of everyone, of course. But I always suggest when someone plays a game and finds something they like or dislike, it's good to ask 'why?'. Why do I like this. Why is the game designed this way. Coming to a better understanding not only broadens the mind but gives your perspective an empathetic element when conversing about games and design.

@jumpaction: So well said. I LOL at the "good game design" crap. Is there a blueprint handed down only to a few?

@TheEroica: Nah i see no point talking all day about why we differ on a game. I don't think either of us are insecure to the point we need the other to believe we're right. We're each right for our own gaming. And that's the only critic that really matters.

@cainetao11: yeah agreed... I think sometimes when I make a statement I'm leaving my opinions in the text as, "how I see it" not attempting to discredit others opinions. It's funny though, the thread is about how roms are starting to creep out on switch and here we are talking about the best open world games of all time. Haha... Its all good brother. I like chatting with people who are flexible in thought.

@TheEroica: On the RoMs thing, Ninty can be their own worst enemy at times. The lack of VC on a great piece of hardware which would be a great fit for it boggles, no doubt. Like their inane chat for online. Why? Only the voices and ears at NTDOY know for sure.

@cainetao11: I should be thankful because my wife is gonna kill me when she sees the credit card statement after a proper virtual console launches.... But man, I just really want to have a massive library of snes/NES games... Basically I'd like recreate my childhood library again.... How much money are they leaving on the table. Billions?

With regards to Roms and what not. Could it be that Nintendo is holding back on this because they can sell all those mini consoles? People are buying up that trash and I say trash because those games can be effectively emulated on the Switch without the need for additional useless hardware. But, it makes money and if it makes money Nintendo would milk it till its dry, then come out with this amazing feature to re-purchase all the games from the mini console for the Switch.

That could be the case.

But given the lack of Apps in general, I think theres a more fundemental problem here.

Can't provide chat on the device? can't provide apps on the device?

What OS or hardware limit is causing this?

The PS3 couldn't do the party system originally due to RAM limitations I believe?

God knows if Nintendo has done something wrong here.

@Pedro: It honestly wouldn't surprise me, and considering SNK and Sega are undergoing their own alternatives to virtual console, I doubt that it's going to be a thing similar to how it was on Wii U.

I do know they plan some updated virtual console with their paid online service - planned an online version of Super Mario Kart for example.

this will only affect poverty striken areas. USA will not be heavily affected.

It will be mostly 3rd world countries. like south america, china, some european regions.

nintendo games have a lot of value and this wont change that imo. game sales will continue to be as strong. pokemon will still sell over 10million.

the number of people that pirate on console are a minority.

you can pirate on PC much easier. on console there is a chance of bricking.

Makes me want one even more. I can look past the inevitability of a "switch pro" in exchange for the ability to do whatever I want on it.

@pyro1245: Did you try and test the game's various systems and kill enemies in creative ways? Did you take time to appreciate the level of detail and world-interactivity that was put into the game? In most other games, if you shoot a fire arrow at the grass, will the grass catch on fire and create an updraft, allowing you to consecutively shoot fire arrows at the grass for infinite updrafts? What other open-world game allows you to freeze a rock in time, build up momentum, climb on, and go flying across the sky? Or surf on your shield down a snowy mountain? Or let you walk across the starting area and LITERALLY let you go straight to the final boss?

If you have story issues with BotW then that's fine, but there is no way in hell that the core gameplay is not better than 90% of other open-world games.

So articles are starting to flood out that there is an easy exploit of the switch which will allow it to run roms and other such wizardry. I'm not advocating it but I think it needs to be discussed because in my opinion, Nintendo is about to lose a ton of money.

Nintendo is certainly back in the sense that they are making a ton of good decisions with hardware and now the software is really feeling strong. In short, the switch absolutely deserves its high sales numbers for many reasons, but that doesn't absolve Nintendo from bad choices in other areas.

By withholding their legacy collection from purchase on switch they've allowed a vacuum where a market for roms on switch will be white hot. Switch gamers, specifically those of us who understand how good Nintendo legacy collection is WANT these games on switch and will gladly pay for them... Likewise, battling it out online for a classic console which is yet another thing tethered to a tv with a cord just seems so archaic by comparison...

So what we have here is a bad decision in my opinion. Nintendo would rather create a limited supply of classic consoles and allow for a gray market of free roms than offer their fanbase a competent legacy collection through their virtual store. There is just no way it makes for good business...

So many customers willing to pay for super Metroid or a link to the past will eventually get their games somehow and I think in part, Nintendo is helping them get them for nothing.

With Linux Tegra X1 ARM build, Switch is just Tegra X1 device.

Nintendo games are insanely expensive on their store and almost never go on sale (both first and third party). Their DLC model is extremely anti-consumer (on-disc DLC where you're forced to pay extra for a little toy you might not want). Their peripherals are overpriced (Switch Pro controller costs twice as much as PS4 controller). Console comes with 32 GB of storage (enough for 2-3 AAA games).

This might actually make the switch worth owning if it means it can run emulators and pirated games.

As it stands, you're basically paying $300 for a system that has like 2 decent games.

To be fair, one of those games takes longer to beat than the PS4's entire exclusives library.

I honestly think Nintendo didn’t release the legacy games yet to promote digital purchases on the Switch shop for new games. They are selling great and lots of indie games are coming to the switch because of great sales. Once all the classic Nintendo games come to the switch I believe those indie sales will go down. Why take a risk on a new indie for $25 if you can pay $5 for Super Metroid of Link to the past which is a sure win. I have surprisingly been buying lots of games on the eshop. Lots of indie games which is where I got this perspective from.

And all that while they dumped Wii U hard for years with no games of this caliber at all. Bayonetta 2 is NOT a Switch title as well. Is another Wii U title ported for Switch. Both multis technically.

We will see how theyll do in the long run, they always trying for 2-3 years. Wii U had a great year or two as well. The problem starts beyond that period. Into 4th year and beyond

Just curious, what does Skyrim do for you that outdoes BotW? No fanboyism or hostility or anything.

1) RPG elements and Growth - many spells, skills and trees to go down. I can actually be a proper thief, I can actual got to hogwarts or become a wearwolf etc.

2) Dungeons, events, dragons .... outside of the 5 main bosses, BOTW was barron in content or anything truly exciting happening.

3) Role Play - Living world... while *abit* more static than Zelda's it was far better at being a living breathing world (especially when modded) ... sorry looking under rocks for little twig kids wasn't quite the same.

4) First-Person - This one is very personal preference, if the next ElderScrolls game took on Warhammer-Vermintides combat system (but expanded to full RPG) it would be my Game of All Time. The FPS combat was dated... heavily, but it worked, and was good for things like stealth and ranged classes (magic.

5) Modding....

We are all going our pretending that Breath of the Wild was far less "Static" than other open world games... but I disagree, all it did was make those elements common place across the entire map which is great... but not a game changer... not when you see "push rock, pick up rock, thrown into other rocks" for the 50th seed.

Breath of the Wild 2 has the potential to be amazing... truly... give it more "Life" give it a grander set of events and I would reverse my opinion...
