@BenjaminBanklin: It’s just you.
Nintendo fans are refuting the news, so apparently it must be true.

Cracked back shell doesn't affect the function of the system, like the DRE's in the PS2 and RROD w/the 360. It's easily replaceable and can use a custom one to stylize my switch.
This place really is something else. Huge fucking crack on the back of the console... no big deal.
I could live with a crack on the back of my PlayStation TV, by the way. The thing cost me like 30 bucks, brand new. You get what you pay for.
This wonderful piece of hardware costs ten times more, and it looks like a volcano is about to erupt from its dying shell.
Holy crap...

Are you really saying this is okay by rationalizing that it isn't a big deal?

It's concern, of course, but it can be fixed via self-help. The device still works.
My launch Switch is fine, but this sucks for those affected. Especially this week, when a couple of great games are launching.
I trust that Nintendo will repair these.
Hopefully it doesn't become a widespread issue like Microsoft's RROD or Sony's YLOD/disc read errors.

You could buy a carton of cracked eggs, provided the yolks weren't running out from them, but you probably wouldn't. You'd buy a carton of eggs with no cracks in them. Yes, cracks in the shell doesn't affect functionality, but it still affects aesthetic, which ultimately affects resale value of the system...
