So after a little over two years of owning a 360, I'm finally saying goodbye. Halo 3, Bioshock and Gears of War is all I accumulated in the game Library for it and now i'm done. Obviously this is due to all the commotion about MGS 4. It was the final push.

So now I want to switch over. But i know absolutley nothing about PS3 and what the best deals on getting one are. So here's what I'm gonna do. I plan to sell my premim 360 with two wireless controllers with those three mentioned games above. I don't know were that will put me exactly but I have enought to cover the after price. So I know there are two versions of the PS3. Now, is the cheaper one a straight up rip off like the Core 360? And is it best to just buy the expensive one?

What I want to be able to do is play PS2 and PS1 games. (Can it play PS1 games?) I also understand that it's a select few. So say, does a game like Jak and Daxter make the cut? Another thing, but this is a dumb question. Can it play regular DVDs?

I've always felt that being on the 360 side of things, the PS3 does suffer from games I would want. And I feel the only thing I'm losing from the 360 is Gears 2. But PS3 has Reident Evil 5 too and that's all that matters really.

So it would be greatly appreciated if someone helped me on what to do and give advice. Thanks.

If you want BC get the 80 gig. And since you want MGS4, get The MGS4 Bundle which comes with a Dual Shock 3 controller. You can all of your PS1/PS2 games and yes you can play DVD's and Blu-ray movies.

As for your question about backwards compatability, the 40 gig version DOES NOT play PS2/PS1 games while the 80 gig and 60 gig ones DO.

If you're adamant on switching over, get MGS4 Bundle. Best deal on the market atm.

See i'm really tight on money right now and as much as I want a PS3 I could get the normal 40gb. But I really, really want backwards compatibility. And I didn't know there was a 60gb.

He wants BC and MGS4..so the only choice he has is the 80 gig bundle or he buys a 60 gig on ebay and buys MGS4 seperate.. but thats just plain stupid.

I live in the UK too and I think we only get the 40GB bundle. I'm glad I got my 60GB back in October before they were phased out.

There are 60 gig versions, (I have one) but you've very little chance of getting hold of one now regardless of where you live (They were phased out months ago) so i'd just concentrate on deciding between the 40 and 80 gig.

I agree. Why would you switch. That's just dumb. He has played 3 out of about 25 of the greatest 360 games on the system. You haven't even scratched the surface of the 360 yet. So you go and get the PS3 and you play MGS4, and then you'll be bored after you beat the game. I would definitely KEEP the XBox 360. From the looks of it, it seems like he doesn't play many games anyways. He had the 360 for that long and only played 3 games? I've had the PS3 for about 8 months and have at least played about 6 games on it.

You will sell 360, for just a few hours of gameplay with MGS4 ?

IMO you should keep 360, and get PS3 mid 2009 when it will really be worth it

All models play ps1 games. Only the 60 and 80 gb play ps2 games. Best bet is to find a bundle since it comes with mgs4 and a dual shock 3. Plays DVDs and upscales them to 1080. plays tons of music and movies files including DIVX so you can download off torrents and watch right on the ps3.

It's not just MGS4 I plan to play though guys. I look at it like this, if you are an owner of a 360, it is near-essential to have Live. I can't have Live because of my internet connection where I live. So I don't plan to do online.

With huge games like Mass Effect, Ninja Gaiden 2, Lost odyssey, Too Human, Fable 2, Infinite Undiscovery, Tales, etc you definatly not need Live to have the most hours of gameplay on 360 than any other system

The biggest PS3 game is 20 hours, the biggest 360 exclusives can get to 100+ hours easilly, and the coming RPG's even higher

This is false, all Ps3 games are easily 10000000 hours of play time with 100000 different things to do in each game!

Yeah.. I wondered the same thing. How do you have a game console for over 2 YEARS when there is at least 25+ that are worth buying. If he had it for 3-4 months, yeah, but over 2 YEARS. I ain't buying it.

Your best bet is probably to get the old, discontinued 60GB SKU which had the hardware emulation since nearly all PS2 and PS1 games worked with it.

DVDs are played by all PS3 SKUs.

The cheapest bundle atm is probably the MGS4 bundle.

There is a backwards compatability list published by Sony, but the list is final and will not be updated. Here is the EU ones, google for the other territories. http://faq.eu.playstation.com/bc/

You wished. If you played that much, Social Life little has you.

And it's around 15 hours at best on BioShock, 20 hours on Eternal Sonata. 20 hours on Mass Effect, 20 hours on Lost Odyssey, never played Blue Dragon, 100+ hours on Halo 3, 7 hours on Gears, 13 Hours on Ninja Gaiden 2, 40 hours on Oblivion.

At least for me :|

Oblivion's more than 40 hours. Thats more like 100+ to complete it with akll side-missions like i did. I spent only about 2 hours on Gears though, stopped playing after that. Although i think i put in over 200 hours on H3 MP alone. AOthers are either spot on or i dont know.

[QUOTE="sadsadman"]It's not just MGS4 I plan to play though guys. I look at it like this, if you are an owner of a 360, it is near-essential to have Live. I can't have Live because of my internet connection where I live. So I don't plan to do online. thrones

I've put 40+ hours into Metal Gear Solid, and 100+ hours in Resistance. Also 100+ hours into Warhawk.

That is what i am talking about, i have 100+ hours on Lost odyssey, 120+ hours on Mass Effect, 40+ hours on Blue Dragon, 35+ hours on Eternal Sonata, 25+ hours on Bioshock, 40+ hours on Gears, 25+ hours on Ninja Gaiden 2, 30+ hours on Halo 3, 120+ hours on Oblivion far before PS3 version was out etc etc

Also Too Human would be 150+ hours, Fable 2 easilyl 200+ hours, Infinite Undisocbery and Tales, 40-50 hours each, Banjo 30-40 hours, Pinata 20 hours at least, Gears 2 co-op up to 50 hours for sure etc

Lost Odyssey is alot more than 20 hours and how is Oblivion only 40 hours:?

Thanks.

As for your question about backwards compatability, the 40 gig version DOES NOT play PS2/PS1 games while the 80 gig and 60 gig ones DO. PSP_John

um not the uk versions have ps1 compatibility as well...looks to be that you've been proven not to even own a ps3...along with a 360. any ps3 owner would know the 40 gig ps3 has ps1 bc but not ps2.

The question is: What else do you plan on playing on the PS3 besides MGS4?

I want to get Uncharted, Heavenly sword, that new Ratchet and Clank, and maybe Resistance. I also want to try and get my hands on Jak and Daxter but I'm not sure if it works on PS3 because it does not come up on the list.
