Switching from 360 to PS3, but need major help.

I wouldn't come to System Wars to ask for such advice, you'll only be baiting a flame war. It doesn't take much to get a console, you don't need to "know" much about it other than what games it offers and online if you are into that kind of stuff (which is almost a standard nowadays). It's not like purchasing a car or another huge investment. If one game motivates you enough to sell your 360, cut the losses, make up for it, and buy a PS3. That's all it takes.

I got my PS3 because HD-DVD died. I use it mainly (read: only) as a Blu Ray player. I didn't need to know other than it playing BD's for me to purchase it.

So after a little over two years of owning a 360, I'm finally saying goodbye. Halo 3, Bioshock and Gears of War is all I accumulated in the game Library for it and now i'm done. Obviously this is due to all the commotion about MGS 4. It was the final push.

So now I want to switch over. But i know absolutley nothing about PS3 and what the best deals on getting one are. So here's what I'm gonna do. I plan to sell my premim 360 with two wireless controllers with those three mentioned games above. I don't know were that will put me exactly but I have enought to cover the after price. So I know there are two versions of the PS3. Now, is the cheaper one a straight up rip off like the Core 360? And is it best to just buy the expensive one?

What I want to be able to do is play PS2 and PS1 games. (Can it play PS1 games?) I also understand that it's a select few. So say, does a game like Jak and Daxter make the cut? Another thing, but this is a dumb question. Can it play regular DVDs?

I've always felt that being on the 360 side of things, the PS3 does suffer from games I would want. And I feel the only thing I'm losing from the 360 is Gears 2. But PS3 has Reident Evil 5 too and that's all that matters really.

So it would be greatly appreciated if someone helped me on what to do and give advice. Thanks.

I'm in the same situation really, considering trading in my 360 for ps3. Like you, the only things holding me back are Gears 2, Fable 2, and the fact that Xbox LIVE is better. So I'm waiting until early 2009, when ps3 will have caught up, then I'm getting ps3 with MGS4, LBP, and all the other great exclusives on their way.

I advise you to wait until the hype for MGS has died down a bit, because too many people are trading in their 360s for one good game, sacraficing Fable 2 and Gears 2 for a few hours of amazing MGS. Wait until the ps3 has more titles, I think that early 2009 is when ps3 will finally have the crown.

With huge games like Mass Effect, Ninja Gaiden 2, Lost odyssey, Too Human, Fable 2, Infinite Undiscovery, Tales, etc you definatly not need Live to have the most hours of gameplay on 360 than any other system

The biggest PS3 game is 20 hours, the biggest 360 exclusives can get to 100+ hours easilly, and the coming RPG's even higher

I've put 40+ hours into Metal Gear Solid, and 100+ hours in Resistance. Also 100+ hours into Warhawk.

That is what i am talking about, i have 100+ hours on Lost odyssey, 120+ hours on Mass Effect, 40+ hours on Blue Dragon, 35+ hours on Eternal Sonata, 25+ hours on Bioshock, 40+ hours on Gears, 25+ hours on Ninja Gaiden 2, 30+ hours on Halo 3, 120+ hours on Oblivion far before PS3 version was out etc etc

Also Too Human would be 150+ hours, Fable 2 easilyl 200+ hours, Infinite Undisocbery and Tales, 40-50 hours each, Banjo 30-40 hours, Pinata 20 hours at least, Gears 2 co-op up to 50 hours for sure etc

you must really suck at games if it takes you that long to beat them with all accomplishments completed... im being serious, but it is also funny..also quite sad really so ima have to put this :o:lol::|:roll::shock::arrow:

If you want BC get the 80 gig. And since you want MGS4, get The MGS4 Bundle which comes with a Dual Shock 3 controller. You can all of your PS1/PS2 games and yes you can play DVD's and Blu-ray movies.EVOLV3

Go buy one of the new, discontinued 80G PS3 consoles. They run for about $650 - $800 new & contain actual hardware chips for backwards compatibility to PS2 games. Other PS3 consoles have removed that hardware, making them inferior in my opinion.

Doesnt the 60gb play all of them? I thought the 80gb was the only limited one??

I live in the UK too and I think we only get the 40GB bundle. I'm glad I got my 60GB back in October before they were phased out.

Save up, buy the MGS PS3. 360 has at least 2 more GOOD years.

The 60G has 11 supported games for Jak. The 80G has 12 supported versions.

You know for someone that wants to play old games, why don't you just buy a PS2? Sorny isn't going to abandon the PS2..due to the overall crappiness of PS3 sales..3rd place, dead in Japan, etc.

Same here. One of the best decisions I've ever made.

Making that free call to Mr. Softy to get a replacement was the best decision I ever made. Otherwise, I wouldn't be able to play Mass Effect on the PS3. I'd have to go to a PC to do it, so why bother having a console?

No, I meant I've noticed a lot of people on SW and other forums are switching to PS3. Actually, the 360 has been outselling the PS3 here in the UK for the past few weeks, but the PS3 has been beating it in the USA for the past few weeks. Kinda ironic since the USA is supposed to be the 360's stronghold and the UK is suppposed to be one of the PS3's strongholds.
